NFL cheerleaders face a wide range of discriminatory practices in the league, including rampant sexual harassment and massive wage theft. But when cheerleaders call out these sorts of practices they are often fired or let go. Will the NFL ever change?

Football embodies the moral hypocrisy that it exists in this country, on a grand scale. We pay lip service about how much we love our kids, but then allow and even encourage them to play a sport that has one of the highest probabilities of incurring life long injuries - CTE just being one of them. We speak about how much we value women in the modern era, and yet the most prominent role women have in America's most popular sport is to be eye candy with some dancing skill. After all, if it were just about dancing, there would be no need for them to be so scantly clad. We wax on about our freedoms in this country, and yet support the NFL which blacklists someone from employment for exercising his right to protest. We speak about how much we abhor violence, and yet we allow the most viewed sports program in this country to be used as an advertising vehicle for the military - one of the biggest purveyors of violence in the world. People's rabid devotion to football, and particularly to the NFL, belies the moral convictions that they claim they have.

Nino Anthony, no I haven't played organized football on a high school or college level. When I was young I would play it, informally, with a group of friends after school. However, I don't think that discredits my statement. After all, I don't have to actually do crack cocaine to no that it is a destructive substance. I just need to be aware of the results. I have seen the results, not only from the information that is out there, but from experiences of friends, when I was at school, and now with my colleagues at work. They can all point to some injury that bothers them, till this day.

I believe we coddle our children way too much. And these women go into this willingly. My cousin is a cheerleader for the Miami dolphins and they tell the women everything they need to know before hand. The football players are getting paid to perform. That involves playing football, doing interviews, and standing for the national anthem.

Daggers & Chains You realize cheerleading used to be a male pastime that only became considered “useless” because women began to dominate the ranks? thesocietypages.org/socimages/2012/12/28/the-manly-origins-of-cheerleading/ What was the original purpose of a male cheerleader then? It was to pump up the crowd and get them invested in the game. You wouldn’t have as many people interested in watching the game without them because it would just be an elite group of dudes beating up on each other like it is in colleges with less emphasis on school spirit. Part of the main reason why people even watch sports is to be a part of something bigger.

Stop whining about cheerleaders. Didn't they read their employment contract? Look at the 'no fraternization' bit in context: Are most of these women such devoted fans that the idea of being in close proximity to the players never crossed their minds? Who can blame a team for protecting a million dollar player from a rogue minimum wage gold digger ( _rogue_ I wrote _rogue._ ) Yes, eliminate cheerleaders. Most of them do it for fun, for the experience. Ladies: deny your sisters the opportunity, it's only fair.

I've never been a sports fan nor have I even paid attention to it, but one thing that I am aware of is exploitation. I thought they were making bank like the players especially if they're putting their bodies out there like that. they could have made more as an adult Entertainer if they decided to then doing that ,not that I think they want to do that .that's outrageous to get paid under minimum wage and then they have to pay for all these things and standards and NFL's not dishing out the money for that ,plus no protection when they're out there ,don't they know there's animals out there .Big old 6-foot 8 over 300 pound linebacker has a bodyguard but these little tiny cheerleaders whoe are practically in underwear are going out there in a crowd full of nasty men that's outrageous!!

I used to love cheerleading as a little kid because it was fun exercise (and I was a flyer, which is exhilarating), but I hate how sexual it is when you hit even a high school level. It’s uncomfortable and controlling, and takes focus away from the actual fun of the sport. Throw unethical business practices on there and you have a very bad no fun terrible awful time.

My favorite hockey team (Carolina Hurricanes) have always been great with their cheerleaders and aren’t exploiting the cheerleaders by putting them in the tiniest outfits and forcing them to do a kickline while getting massively unpaid. They also aren’t as strict with the rules like the NFL is. They get to be more of the fan development team and are always helping with intermission games and military surprises and stuff like that. They also have much more freedom in a season as the NFL requires 100% attendance at games. Our cheerleaders are only required to attend like 75% of events and are an icon of the team. Look up “Carolina Hurricanes cheerleaders” and click the one with the 16 ladies. Now compare that to the Carolina Panthers cheerleaders. Much more uniform. They have bigger tops and wear pants rather than tiny skirts and tiny tops. Even within the NHL, they are some of the more friendly with cheerleaders. They also have security standing behind them during games to make sure they’re safe
@GoalHornGeek
@GoalHornGeek 3 жыл бұрын
And they don’t fire you for being in the same restaurant as the players. Several players even follow the cheerleaders. They also aren’t required to do a bikini photo shoot and are allowed to gain weight. They are permitted by the team to pull up their pants higher if they feel they find it more comfortable that way as well.

The only two valid points made here are wages for and security of the cheerleaders. (a). Security should be provided for cheerleaders at any and all promotional functions. (b). The NFL made record profits of $13.2 Billion in 2016 and $14.3 Billion in 2017. So, the NFL as a whole should have employee packages for the cheerleaders with a starting salary of $50k with additional compensation from any advertisement featuring the cheerleaders and any promotional material with their likeness or any personal appearances made by the cheerleaders.
