10:57, the alpine uses the 3L gore tex for sure. I have the alpine and another paclite jacket, and there is a huge difference. As for the difference in the feels between your alpine and your beta lt, the 3L of the gore tex fabric consists of: the outer layer, the gore-tex membrane, and the liner. The only part that is shared by all gore-tex jackets(in the same time period of release) is the gore-tex membrane. The outer layer and the liner can be done however each of the brands(nike, arcteryx, adidas) needs them to be(as long as they meet gore-tex specifications of course). Brands like arc’teryx, which specializes in gore tex garments have a bunch of different outer layer material within their own line up from the toughest np100x face fabric of the top of the line alpha sv, to the much cheaper np40x face fabric of the alpha fl meant for less demanding tasks. Think of this like your shoes. Your af1 gtx uses the gore tex membrane, but the outer layer is leather and mesh. Your nmd gtx also uses gore tex membrane, but the outer layer is knit.

The length of the funnel hood is what makes it. My alpine is my go to jacket for extreme cold weather (-30 before wind shield)

I first bought it because of Antwon and this is just another reason why I'll never get rid of my ACG Alpine. What really sealed the deal was I also got the inner piece (bomber) that attaches to the alpine thrown in with the deal.

Its standard 3L gore-tex performance fabric. Paclite doesn't have a fabric 3rd layer backer. It uses a spray-on oleophobic layer or none at all(paclite plus). Basically if the inner looks gimpy, it's Paclite. If it looks like silver fabric or has a dark grey check its performance or pro, respectively. And the denier is too high on both the outer and inner fabric for Gore Active.

I was thinking the whole time how it's a bit of a shame that you can't really get this as an entry into the Techwear Prime look and then you mention alternatives without specifics. Serendipity, I just (finally after much searching) managed to snag a barely-worn Black XL of this piece yesterday (Sat 13th Feb). I'm not going to disagree that I had to pay above original retail, but even then I was lucky enough to get it for below the usual four-figure GBP Grailed prices. I'm real happy with it, it's a fantastic jacket and I'll be enjoying wearing it for the foreseeable. I agree about the hood, but if you fold down the chin flap with the poppers and then also double over and fasten down the hood with the popper fasteners at the sides you can roll the hood into a chunky collar loop, it took a bit of trial-and-error to get it looking not lumpy and hunchbacked :) One question for any owners - there's a half-zip running across the inside at shoulder-height; what's it for? :o

Nice! Glad you got one for a decent price and have been getting some goot use out of it. As Toob said, it's to zip in liners. The ACG 2-in-1 jacket came with one which is compatible, and iirc the Metamorphosis bomber also works. I've also zipped the Acronym J89 into it with no issues so I imagine most (if not all) Acronym things will work

I dont blame the sellers though for trying to sell it for 1.5k, and I dont blame the people constantly flexing these either because if you have it of course youre going to flex it. At this point its kind of like a vicious circle. Its heralded as the holy grail of techwear, and no longer produced, so of course no seller would sell it for a lesser price when they know these regularly command approx 1.5k with no other way to obtain them. And because they regularly command 1.5k, the idea of their value continues to perpetually inflate itself. It becomes the perfect vicious circle.

Like mentioned, the asking rate for this can get you something in the realm of acr. At this point, I think you get this jacket because you have the money to burn and/or chasing those internet points. I am a big fan of the alpine. I think one of the bigger negatives you missed is that it’s so definitively a Nike coat. Wearing with adidas off another brand of shoes kills the whole look. Paying a little more for an acronym or going an arcteryc route gives flexibility. The alpine is a high price to lock yourself in to a strictly Nike ecosystem. Too high in my opinion.

You can't feel goretex. Its a membrane in the middle of the inner and outer layer. Your feeling a nylon shell on the outside which will change from brand to brand although all companies use goretex's off the shelf nylon outer shell they provide. The only brand that make there own outer nylon is Arc'teryx.
