Is The Nikkor Z MC 50mm f/2.8 Good For Everything?

I put the hood lens on and took shots which were fantastic. I did not realize that you can also extend the lens by pulling it out showing the focal range(0.53ft 1:1 0.16mm), (0.56ft 1:1.4 0.17mm) and to (0.63ft 1:2 0.19mm). Amazing little lens that I have used in my KZbin Studio showing products, pets, and myself.

I bought both MC lenses, the 50 specifically for use with the es-2 digitizing adapter. It's also great for keeping in the bag if you don't have the room or desire to carry the 105.

​@@JRodPhotoArt I haven't heard of a newer version coming out. I got it last fall as well as the MC 50 and it has served it's purpose well. It comes with a film strip holder as well as a slide mount holder for 2 slides. Feeding the slides and film in there's some play so you have to make adjustments to level it but that's also just the way these things work. I use an Aputure LED panel rated at 97 TLCI and that provides a nice even source of light across the slide. I've digitized hundreds of slides from Kodachrome to Ektachrome and Gold and it works well for my purposes. There are better methods such a copy stand with anti newton glass, but I don't need that level of quality or headache. I'm not sure what a newer version would provide, perhaps the ability to use the 105MC? If so, I would probably wait if you're on the fence.

I've been looking at both the 50mm and the 105mm. There is currently only $200 difference in the price. However, as a hobbyist I don't know that I need the 105mm. I've got the 24-120mm. I'm trying to keep my kit light.

@@trfisher78 I’ll say this much. The 105 is a “finer lens” than the 24-120. It’s sharper, more contrast, color, etc. it also does macro better, obviously because it’s a macro lens. Its portraits will be better as well at that 2.8, not HUGELY better. The 105mm f/2.8 is a very fun lens to have. It does a lot of things for its price and its optical quality makes it under priced even at its non sale price. The 105 weighs like nothing. But less versatility than the 24-120 obviously. I’d like to add that the mc 50 didn’t impress me a whole lot. But the 50mm 1.8 S, now that’s a nice lens for the price
