Luffy climbing the mountains in drum islands is like 3 pages in the manga, and i don't remember how long it was in the anime but i do know they added the scene of him slipping and sliding down a long way, scraping up his hands horribly. Its a scene that is permanently imprinted in my brain

The anime drops the ball when it comes to pacing and "gore", particularly post time skip. The turtle like pacing and censoring/changing of Whitebeard supposed to be completely blitzing Akainu was not cool for me since I had read the manga first. In the manga, WB just EATS the headshot and without hesitation or pause does that crazy side hit to him. No kneeling for ten seconds, lifting akainu for ten seconds, him falling for ten seconds. If I had watched the anime 1st it probably wouldn't have bothered me because it would be for dramatic build up and blah blah, but too late I saw the original first and was really looking forward to that pacing and showing off of WB's greatness. Same for Kaido vs luffy 1st meeting. Kaido absolutely blitzes Luffy, it's such a shocking and quick display of his utter power. No beam struggle punch, no 20 seconds of struggle, just domination of power and speed. EVERYBODY that read the manga was looking forward to that. Ever since Skypeia and the danger of catching up to the manga, the anime has been an utter slave to pacing and there is nothing anyone can ever do about it...

There is no such thing as pacing in the manga, it's as quick or as slow as you imagine/read it. You interpret that way because oda very rarely puts in traditional movement, and rightfully so why would you on a manga. People who think the manga are better are just "hipsters". I'll admit I didn't start reading until PH but am all the way current now and the anime has been better in most situations.

Now, the best anime to manga moment is UNDOUBTEDLY Zoro vs King. They took a sequence that lasted a single chapter, and made it one of the greatest pieces of art in animation HISTORY!! Toei literally got a WORD RECORD FOR THAT!

The Wano anime is fantastic in terms of direction, animation, and adding thing that the manga didn't. For example the entirety of Oden's flashback was peak in the anime it felt like a spinoff series and made me love Oden more. Oden vs kaido is still one of my favorite fights in one piece Roger Pirates vs WB pirates is great as well Odens death was perfectly done.

since the raid started the quality has dropped off alot tho imo, some of the episodes have been insane 10/10s but there has also been some episodes with horrible pacing bad/reused animation and tons of random flashbacks to stuff that only happened an episode or two ago. i wish this show got a higher budget or more time between episodes or something because the people making it have clearly shown they can do good stuff if given the time and resources

I’m sorry when Luffy first gets to the top of onigashima and sees all the Samarii beaten down from Kaido and hits him with that first Red Roc and says “I’m the one who will beat you and become king of pirates” might be my favorite moment in one piece to date. The look on big mom and Kaidos face was amazing.

The scene where Yamato compares Roger's dream to Luffy's is done perfectly in the anime. From the art direction to the music to the use of colors that scene is my fav in the anime and its done way better than in the manga

Most of the fights 😭 prefer them in the anime .. that's why I started watching the anime in the first place.. fights are harder to follow in manga format and fights can only look so good going from splash page to splash page. Animation adds a lot to fights for me for any manga

Yeah kinda hit or miss on stuff. Anime gets some of the most emotional stuff down perfectly like the Carlos punch, Robin’s “I want to Live”, and even small things like Bellamy seeing Luffy’s shadow on Jaya. Also most recently King v Zoro was absolutely wild. But manga does do a lot of other thing extremely well. Like end of Dressrosa Luffy v Doflamingo that final punch was supposed to be like Luffy’s final hit on Bluneo fasts and like getting hit with a gun. Then the anime made it a beam struggle, which was fine, but manga Luffy speed is wild and I wish we got to see it animated that way.

I’d say if there are moments they’re mostly related to hearing the voices and sounds in the anime, for example: Nico Robin saying “i wanna live” crocodile saying its been a long time “mugiwara” the laughs and specially whenever joy boys laughs and when luffy punches kaido with the OG music in the background. And obviously some of the fight scenes.

The sounddesign is pretty decent and the japanese voice acting is great, those alone add so much. The fights being more fluid is also something that sets anime above manga for me. Its very hard to compare tho because they are literally different media

Emotional scenes in anime are almost always better cause I hear them say it and not me, Idk why but I can’t feel bad for a character or a situation in the manga, reading the manga around Brooks introduction and backstory (like chapter 489 I think) isn’t as good as hearing him say/sing it in the anime.

I know people don’t typically like them but I usually enjoy the anime only filler episodes. The fillers usually showcase each persons abilities which means you get more Usopp moments and that’s never a bad thing. Usopp has more non-canon moments than canon moments.

Not cuz the manga is bad in any way possible but the combination of music + great voice acting + good/smooth animation can make these deep important moments feel way stronger.
