Brandon was true visionary, when it came to branding, understanding the market, trends and customers. His story is really sad. The Ordinary truly revolutionised some parts of skincare market. While everone was chasing "all green, natural ingredients, stuff that you know and can pronounce, huge campaigns and excessive packaging" he went the opposite way. The way that brands are going now: scientific, almost pharmaceutical feel. And since Brandon left/was forced to leave the ordinary stagnated. Ofc, we don't know what would have happened if he stayed and was still alive, but I think his success wasnt just a chance. (Ofc, he could have started some dramas, get brand cancelled because of his actions, I am just talking about his side as an entrepreneur)

He would of ran the company into the ground since he kept losing his mind and then posting his mentally unstable episodes online for everyone to see and kept speaking about himself in ways only narcissists do and all the workplace controversy that the public found about. Loyal buyers were starting to boycott Deciem a few months before he was voted out of his company. I’m not surprised he got voted out of his own company he was gonna take the entire brand down with him if he was allowed to continue. This is someone many loyal buyers WANTED gone. Why do we look at people through rose colored glasses once they drop dead?

It is a shame what happened to Brandon; he was a visionary, and I love the Ordinary line. Like most people, I was initially skeptical, and like many, I wondered if the products were so good, how can they be so affordable. It was later that I realized it was part of Brandon's vision. It is a shame he was voted out of his own company, and this is the same thing that happened to Steve Jobs when he was also voted out of his own company. Like Brandon, Steve sold shares within his company to bring in capital, and like Brandon, the board didn't like how he was running things and voted him out of his company. Steve went on to create another company called Pixar and eventually returned to Apple when Apple purchased it; it is too bad that Brandon died before he could create a new company and maybe do the same. I understand why people sell shares of their company, and that is to bring in more capital but this also gives the investors a controlling share, but the problem is the board of directors can combine those shares among themselves and if their controlling shares becomes greater than the owners then they can vote you off your own company if they don't like the way you run things.

I think that the ordinary would actually still mostly stagnate... simply because the science behind skin care mostly stagnates. After you have a good formular with working ingredients there is nothing you can do accept rebranding and repackaging a lot to create this feel of newness. Skin care on the science side has actually not changed that much in the last decades.

Brandon was murdered because of what he knew. He tried to blow the whistle and the powers that be made him out to be crazy, they're good like that. The truth of what goes on behind the scenes in the beauty industry isn't quite so pretty. But, I know, people just don't care.

There is not that much difference between skin care for light skin or dark skin. There are some things that have to be taken into account, like light skin being more vulnerable to sun burns and dark skin having a tendency to develope discoloration especcially around scars. But differences between skin type are more important then skin colour. What makes a difference is mostly tinting of ingredients. some oils for example have an orange tint, that can discolour very light skin. and some sun screens build a light visible film that looks greyish on darker skin.

i’m canadian and i love the accessibility & affordability of the ordinary! but i’m also darkskinned, and i’ve found their “brightening” products are simply ineffective on my skin tone. when people say ingredients like vitamin c are the most proven to treat hyperpigmentation, i ask who are these studies performed on? definitely not black people and other poc. so, it’s amazing to see a brand like be minimalist made by and for people of colour making its way to the western world!! melanin-rich skin needs a cocktail of pigmentation fighting ingredients to prove effectiveness, so seeing the ingredient combinations in these products is mind-blowing!!! i have a feeling be minimalist will be more popular with melanin-rich skin folks!!! yay for us!! 🥳

As an Indian myself who saw BeMinimalist grow in India and was excited for The Ordinary, even I couldn't notice such stark differences between them until your analysis. It's true though, both cater to different set of skin types and concerns, apart from number of ingredients used and the purpose behind the inception of both brands being totally different, both brands being effective in what they promise to do, have given wide variety of options for people to choose from for their personalised skincare routine.

Be minimalist and The ordinary, are like comparing straight hair to curly hair products, in an industry that didn’t cater to a specific group of people. Bringing a product line that helps people that are more prone to hyper pigmentation due to us, having more melanin in our skin, and needing ingredients that playoff each other at the right percentages to not cause irritation. Both lines in their own right have a place but cater to different groups for different reasons.😊

@@vallerianredha8822 I'd also like to add that needing specific brands to cater for your skin isn't bs. For sensitive skin prone to hyperpigmentation, minimalist is a lot better than the ordinary because it's more gentle. After Ordinary launched in India, I used them and realised that many of them dont suit my skin. Like the peel is too harsh for my skin and kinda increased my pigmentation around mouth so I stopped using it, while my previous experience with Minimalist peel was amazing. It works slow but it works, which I think is what brown skin needs. I have also found minimalists alpha arbutin to be amazing. After buying bunch of Ordinary products and using them, Im definitely leaning more towards Minimalist and Deconstruct for my next purchase. And a lot of these gems at available without prescription. For some though, it's better to talk to a dermatologist & g on the right strength for your specific needs. It's not a dupe. Ordinary caters to a different audience, derma co caters to another. Most importantly, Ordinary came here AFTER the market was monopolised by Minimalist and Derma co. Just because they're doing in the US doesn't mean we'll be left behind. Ordinary revolutionised skincare by bringing in actives, and so did the Indian brands here because they were too high handed to launch in India. It's their fault so stop screaming "dupe".

Having used products from both lines.. ordinary has few products.. like 10% azelaic acid( it’s freaking nice). And minimalist has range of products that look like single ingredient.. but they are not( just few ingredients).. like niacinamide 5%. It instantly soothe my skin.. their moisturiser and sunscreen are really good. But there are some other brands which are pretty good in India ( don’t know if they are available internationally like daughters earth, juicy chemistry, dot and key and few more…. Loved your review btw❤

Sorry but Dot & Key sucks! They have so much artificial fragrance & colouring that cute packaging just can't justify. I'm sorry but I'm extremely disappointed in them! They have some really bad toxins and bad transparency in terms of ingredients as well! The only great product is their berry lip sleeping mask and it acts like a lip gloss for me too.. So yeah!

BM I use the oat cleanser, glycolic Alpha lopoic cleanser, hyaluronic Polyglutamic serum,Alpha lopoic moisturizer, and the soothing moisturizer when my skin is feeling sensitive. I used Minimalist while staying in India.. Now in Canada I use Ordinary.. Though a follower brand of Ordinary , in my experience Minimalist was way better for my skin ( neither dry nor oily). It brought out my best version. While in Canada I had to use Ordinary. It's good but not as good as Minimalist. To be fair the climate and genetics play a big part.

I have had terrible acne for almost 10 years and was using prescription spot treatment that would leave my skin dry and itchy and the spots would refuse to go away. All the skin care gurus I've grown up watching would recommend brands/products not available in India. Didn't purchase Minimalist when it came out because there were a lot of new brands that came up during 2019-2020 and most had scandals so i steered clear of them. Purchased The Ordinary as soon as it was available in India but it is more expensive than Minimalist. Would love a comparative list of both so I don't have to break my bank trying to afford good skincare
