@@aronnikes5660 I thought that too, the last 11 cars I bought had sunroofs, dual sunroofs or panoramic. However, I opted to not get it on my 2020 F150, because I did not want to deal with the issues. Out of the 11 cars 2 did give me issues. I love how they brighten the cabin, but I don't want to deal with the issues.

Last year I ordered a 2020 F150 and initially I was going to order a sunroof. However after watching several KZbin videos where people also encountered problems with their sunroofs, I decided not to order a sunroof. I also notice that the aftermarket offers the brackets for the sunroof which sent a red flag to me. After watching your video you have confirmed that I made the right choice!

Sunroofs were the original alternatives to full convertibles, and the key difference is that a sunroof was a *non-glass*(cloth, vinyl, or matching roof sheetmetal) section that tilted and/or slid open for air and daylight. Moonroofs are glass, and nearly all have a separate shade when no daylight is desired(or one just wants as 'normal' looking a car overhead as possible). ;)

I have it on my Audi SQ5 and I also had it on my previous car (Ford Escape SEL), it looks great but on my Audi the sunshade broke because of the florida heat and Audi charges $2,000 just to replace that very thin shade, that is like a very cheap curtain. So I didn't replace it, but need to find alternatives or i would bake in the summer, big time, without a shade. The sunshade was way better on my (twice cheaper) Ford Escape, the shade was rigid and way less fragile, never broke. Moonroof is nice for the rear passengers, the driver doesn't really enjoy it as you're looking in front of you (hopefully) when driving.

You can fix your sunroof yourself for $160. Buy the rails from the dealer, take off the sunroof via 6 bolts, remove both rails via 3 screws on each side. Problem solved. 1 hour of work. Note that you have to re program the sunroof once installed which is simple and can find on KZbin.

Sounds like you could really benefit from a ceramic window tint on the roof that blocks out the UV. Don't know how much benefit but perhaps worth looking into.

A good ceramic would definitely help. Ceramic tints reflect uv rays away from the vehicle instead of being absorbed into the glass. When UV rays are absorbed by the windows it turns into heat. With the tint its reflected away lowering the amount of UV being absorbed which in turn reduced the amount of heat produced.

Depends on what car, some cars it is pointless , however some cars like an family luxury suv it will be pointless without the sunroof. Also the sun roof is actually for winter days, nothing better than having everyone soaked in the sun under the pano roof while on the winter family trip👍🏻

Another con of sunroof: Less headroom (usually 1-inch) as compared to trims which don't have sunroofs. Some cars may fix it increasing the height of the car, so check the specs of the car you're purchasing.

I got a Honda accord 04 with moonroof 233k still working just fine. No leaks or any other problems. Looking for a new car with the panoramic but came across people having problems with it or maybe it's just a Ford problem.

Trust me,… owner of 2016 F150, with 40,000 miles, garage kept. One total moonroof replacement (2 years old) requiring total interior removal and doors. Truck was butchered by uncaring dealership mechanics. And one guide rail replacement (not under warranty $700). Their sunroofs will give you problems,save the $1,500 option and expensive trips to the dealership if you’re keeping your truck.

A good deciding factor is how the insulation quality is? We either live in hot weather or cold. So having either and knowing how to choose will be right. Any temperature comparisons using the coldest AC setting? Which last longer? How does 120° weather handles ? It’s alot to spend on that roof which we drivers don’t enjoy while driving just our kids.

I also want to know more about the strength of the glass, specially during a hail storm because the glass is the main protection from any objects hitting the roof. How strong is it? The metal roof will be damaged during a hail storm, but at least it will not break that easily.

I would tint that so it reflects the heat. Top grade ceramic 70% still lets light in but it'll reflect most of that heat 🔥

should be covered by the warranty, the sunroof on my '11 went out, I think twice, they fixed it. IMO it is never good unscrewing that many screws off a brand new car.

Somebody probably answered but a moonroof is a stationary piece of glass installed atop the vehicle and not all moonroofs will have the sliding shade. A sunroof which you have there is will open

I have one on my 16 f150 absolutely loved it when the truck was brand new, as the years have gone by now 2021 it leaks and the headliner now has the moldy smell , my advice stay away, it does let in a ton of light and looks sweet but it will leave you with a 2 plus grand bill

I love it. I have remote start from my phone so i can start my car before i get into it so that it cools down before i get into it or in the winter i can start my car so i can have the ac or heater on and the car comes to temp.

it's not worth it, especially if it opens: if water freezes it will infiltrate, if the water tubes get clogged it will flood the car, if it breaks it is expensive, less heat insolation. If you have a garage and warranty you could consider it, else it's a pain to maintain

A sunroof is glass. You can see through it. A moon roof is not. It's just a movable body panel. Older Volvo's and merc's had em a lot. At least that's what I was told at one time. I could be wrong... Also. They typically can't just pull it out and replace the bracket because it's all one piece. Once it's put together. It can't really be taken apart. The brackets are built around the glass. It just makes installation easier in the factory. It accounts for minor discrepancies between vehicles. Wile keeping the whole thing aligned. If it gets out of alignment. That's when you get leaks.

Hello, I'm about to buy an Audi with a glass roof - what about safety with the glass roof? in an accident? Do the parts hold together in the event of a crack or does the pane fall into pieces? Here I would be most afraid that an object could get through the window from above (in an accident) and fall on my head as a passenger. What is it like driving at high speed, can you hear a whistle? And is it warmer in summer than in winter? The roof is only made of glass and - if I've seen it correctly - only has a thin sun visor underneath. I would only take the roof so that it is lighter in the interior, as my equipment is completely black, but I have concerns, mainly because of the technical defects.

Hey Darcelle, if your glass panels don't go all the way back something could be broken on the rail system or it just isn't lubed up enough! I can't diagnose the full problem for you, but hopefully this gave you a little insight! I am no where near a professional!

The other query is that with undeniably material changes in global temperatures, would a shade mechanical or manual be effective enough so that there was no recognizable difference between a standard roof and a moonroof in the cabin temperature? On very sunny days, if one placed a hand near or against the shade, you could feel the radiation heat

The cons are lack of insulation for cold and hot weather months, potential for water ingress if the seals fail and they are a maintenance nightmare when components need to be replaced! If debris from the road strikes it- it's a nightmare to replace! Never keep a car with a panoramic roof beyond the warranty period!

Exactly! I watched a video with a Raptor. He recommends this product on Amazon "Krytox GPL205 Performance Lubricant Grease". I bought for my F150 and I lube the rubber seal one a month. Also open it at least once a week. To keep the seal from sticking.

I have been looking at the RX for the past year. I just found a great deal on a 2021 with right color int and ext, and luxury package (❤ the rims and lights)! But I’m afraid of the panoramic roof because I keep my vehicles for a long time. We’re a Lexus family because of the reliability and low maintenance. I’d hate for that panoramic roof to change our history with Lexus. 🤔🥺

Looking at Santa Fe's, and higher trims come with a panoramic sun roof... and I don't think I want the sunroof. Mainly because when we pack up the family to go camping we use a roof bag for extra storage... and because it's a soft bag, not a rigid box, it sits down on the roof itself, rather than riding up on the roof racks. On our current old beater of a car I dont mind it... but I really don't think it'd be smart to load a roof bag up onto a glass roof...?

@@BrandenLopez was you driving quite quickly with it open. They usually advise not to. My last car had a pan roof but only halfway. I opened that thing and drove faster than probably advised to. But the car before that had slight issues closing after driving that fast too. In the end I solved that with grease spray on the tracks.

@@macp349 they advise not to go past a certain speed with it open. I assume they mean fully open. About 60 or 7ph. I can’t remember. But I had exceeded it a few times. I had small issues closing sometime after. But greasing again solved that

The creaking and rattling of the sunroof is unbearable and the time spent cleaning and lubricating only for the rattle/creak to come back is not worth it at all...I sold an Audi just because of the unbearable rattle that I had to put up with for 3 years until it kept getting worse and nothing seemed to fix it..

Dealerships will always cost an arm and a leg out of warranty, find an independent mechanic around you, I bet they fix it for half what the stealership was charging.
