It's the same Gotham. Looks and feels like the same level of production, which the MCU has failed to do in the past 2 phases. It literally is just a continuation of the movie. It's not a watered down Gotham or a nice location.

But it is only a week away - so I will work heavily on my forbearance. But it was inspiring to hear from you about how stellar this new show is. I am one of those who watched and relished "Andor." Diego, Fiona, Stellan - not to mention Forest, Kyle and the rest of the cast, and the writing - I thought were superb. I'm ecstatic it has been renewed for a second season. And back to "The Penguin" - I was confident the acting, writing, cinematography, etc. would be top notch - and you have confirmed my view. Also - Congrats!! - and have a glorious honeymoon!

I think I'll enjoy it, but I have hit a point I'm over Batman shows without Batman i.e. Gotham and Pennyworth. I did still like those shows for what they were. Well, most of it. However, it would be so cool to have a Batman the Animated Series like show in live action. I'm still definitely going to watch this and figure I will still greatly enjoy it.

I sort of wish it was saved and adapted for The Batman Part II adapting Dark Victory after the first was a sort of The Long Halloween. I think parts of this show (like Penguin's rise as Matt Reeves said) would've been in such a sequel had they not made The Penguin. Not that I'm exactly complaining either, I think they may be playing out The Long Halloween/DrkVic across these three projects which is more fitting given the OG lasts a year.

One of my biggest concerns is that it may turn out to be like an 8-hour film instead of having a clear episode structure where every episode can stand on their own. However, I've seen some good reviews, so I'm going into it with optimism because I loved The Batman.

This is an issue I often have with the Disney+ Marvel & Star Wars shows, particularly the former given I only watched one of the latter (Obi-Wan) but a lot of the times they don't feel like great 40-60 minutes of TV in their own right but part of a greater whole while the episode itself is only decent. With exceptions, I rarely look back fondly an episode from one of these shows based on its own value the way I do with other shows. They're like the 2hr films stretched out across weeks or the 4+ hours assembly cuts.

Spoilers about the ending: Penguin assumes the mantle of sole mobster in Gotham after all of the Falcones and Maronis die except for Sofia who gets a letter from Selina in the finale. The show sets you up to think that Oz’s mother was emotionally and mentally unstable and that turned Oz into a psychopath with delusions of grandeur but it’s in fact the opposite. He was born a cold blood killer and his mother is the manipulated and gaslit one. The last shot is a cool wide angle on Gotham as the bat signal lights up.

A lot of fans forget how to just enjoy the work, they get hung up on, will batman be there or not. Is a toxic level of fandom that doesn’t let you enjoy a masterful show. There is nothing like the Penguin on any platform right now. Tied so closely to a high profile character like batman and with that proper tone. Is must see TV even more so than House of Dragon

The penguin show looks like it was shot to look like an actual tv show instead of 24 frames like movies are usually shot. Watch the Batman trailer then the penguin trailer back to back you’ll see what I’m talking about.

Huge opportunity not having Batman in the show. Didnt even have to actually see him. Just imagine in the season finale, Penguin finally orchestrates the biggest deal to make it big. And just as its about to go down, this shadow wraith descends and in the blink of an eye dismantles the entire operation and everyone gets caught. Panic. Everyone getting snatched out of the sky one by one. From a hardcore criminals' POV. Nobody actually sees him. Penguin barely escapes and his plans are foiled. Would have been so freaking good.
