Check out the Takumar 35mm f/2.3. It's a rare, but wild little lens with a crazy removeable front element. I love mine. The bokeh is a bit swirly and creates insane bubbles. The flares at 2.3-2.8 are amazing, but are immediately cut once you stop down to 3.5. A very unique lens.

I don't find the blur as pleasing on those Pentacon shots, but it certainly is a very similar character. Nice tip, thank you.

Just bumped into your video, I think it's the 2nd one from your channel that caught my attention and after finishing this one I instantly subscribed. Thanks for the great comparison, both the creative images and the detailed photos to compare were great and informative. I hope you continue making such great content man!

I love my Industar 69 as wide Helios. It requires some modification to make it focus to infinity (including sanding down the adapter), but the result you get is just as characteristic.
@MarcoAries2 ай бұрын
I'd like to try more industar lenses, so far I've only tried the 50-2
@Toschez2 ай бұрын
@@MarcoAries I encourage you to try it! It takes some work as I said, and it's objectively only OK lens wide open, but it has character, including the swirl. And it's quite low profile including the M39 adapter. The minimal focus distance is unimpressive (around 70 cm) but can be somewhat mitigated by unscrewing the lens.

I'll keep it in mind if I ever find one 😉

My first vintage lens was a Helios a few weeks ago. I rolled the dice on this one just to stop buying too many around 50mm lenses. Just tested out this the other day and really liked it. Didn’t notice it swirl but I didn’t take that many boke shots.
@MarcoAries7 ай бұрын
While the swirl is probably the most famous thing about the Helios, it's not something that shows in every picture. In fact, it often looks better when it doesn't swirl.

@@MarcoAries I really enjoy this lens and the focal length of 29mm some photos where the edges are soft look almost like I’m doing tilt shift photos.

Yeah, you can get creative with those soft edges!

I’m super excited to watch this! In my recent video, I mentioned that I want to find a lens to pair with my Helios!

I'll check it out, then 😉 Long story short, the Mir 20mm and the Mir 1b 37mm are the classics on the wide end, while the Jupiter 9, Tair 11 and Jupiter 21m ( the latter of which I have reviewed already) for the longer focal lengths

honestly such a great comparison. I just bought my pentacon from a pawn ish shop for camras and lenses, and kid you not got it for 17 dollars. so this video put me to ease lol FYI gonna use it with my fx3

thanks for the comparison, Marcos. I like my Pentacon 29mm. what i'm curious about is the Lydith 30mm 3.5 compared to the Pentacon.

Me too, but I haven't found one yet, it seems to be quite elusive...

Lydith 3.5/30 (also labeled as Pentacon 3.5/30) is a great lens. In my opinion, Lydith is the sharper and better lens.
@MarcoAries2 жыл бұрын
That seems to be the general consent, yes
@sergep71Ай бұрын
@@MarcoAries Not sure if the price is too rich but there's an ebay listing for a lydith - "Praktica PL nova 1B Camera | 30mm f3.5 lens | M42 | White | G.D.R | 1967 - 1975" and you could make an offer

Nice video! I've been thinking about buying the Pentacon 29mm before, but I only read bad things about it. Maybe I still should get it

It sure has a distinctive look, I'd say is worth playing around if you can find it for very cheap
@fretless05 Жыл бұрын
I looked and couldn't find one at a price I'd call "cheap"; they started around US$70 plus shipping. It is an interesting lens, though and I do fir the mold- I have a few vintage lenses but still don't consider myself expert in them and do love the Helios 44-2.
@MarcoAries Жыл бұрын
Prices vary a lot around the world, but this is surely not worth 70$. Personally, I wouldn't pay more than 40 for one in perfect condition. Don't overpay for it, wait until you find one at a reasonable price!

Interessante ! Of course you know the Mir minimum focus can be easily modified to about 35cm, but it's still a 37mm lens (not wide enough) !

Indeed! I'll never understand why they made it like this!

I'm not sure why you wouldn't just use the helios 28. but this PENTACON is pretty nice.
@MarcoAries Жыл бұрын
If I remember correctly, the Helios 28 is a Japanese lens that doesn't share much with the soviet 58mm

Io ho scelto il Pentacon 30mm 3.5, uguale al Meyer Lydith. Ha 10 lamelle e una resa vintage, pare abbia più successo del 29mm. Sarebbe interessante un confronto!

I love my Pentacon 50mm f1.8. Its a cheap piece of crap, focuses closely and produces amazing images. Anything Pentacon I want. Though my 300mm f4 is a tad too heavy.
