Is the Phoenix the master of the starcraft II skies?

The phoenix instantly comes to mind when thinking of protoss air units in starcraft 2, but how strong is it actually? Find out here, when 15 fully upgraded phoenixes battle against equal cost flying units from the protoss, zerg and terran races.

Loosing against Tempest and Vikings feels especially wrong IMHO.

Why? Vikings are anti-air units too.

​@@anamorfoplasis well, Vikings have an Assault Mode and much bigger attack range, which, in my opinion, should make Phoenix more capable on direct anti-air battle.

Vikings are slower air superiority units while Phoenix are more harassment units

Their strength comes from their speed and utility, of curse for example vikings are vastly superior mid game, same as Corruptors but Phenix is often aviable since early game, and they allow you to not only gain map control but also potentially pick up dangerous units, especially vs terran but also vs zerg lower leagues you can be a dick, get 4 phenixes and go overlod hunting, most players will have them kinda exposed so u can really annoy your oponent, and if they push you you should be able to still defend as u can essentially delete 4 ravagers from the fight and of curse you can also kill some units before the fight starts.

With micro the phoenix easily win against tempest and carrier. Just kite the interceptors and then kill the defenceless carriers. If done well enough you won’t even loose a single phoenix. Same with the Zerg units. With good micro you won’t loose a single phoenix against muta and can trade evenly with corruptors. Terran air units are the only ones that are a real threat to phoenix even if you actually micro them.

In 2v2 they are easy to mass and since they outrange corruptors they can win especially once the Phoenix count is high enough. Same with carriers, Phoenix draw out interceptors and annilate them.

Phoenix is a bad a-move unit. It's an awesome move unit though. For example, with micro from both sides corruptors don't really win against phoenixes, even though they kinda should. Tempest is a very bad choice against phoenix, but if you create the situation where shots are spread.. yes, they can win a fight. Never happens with real players though, phoenixes destroy tempests.
