Is the Ponziani Opening Good? Magnus Carlsen thinks so!
There are a ton of good chess openings for white against e5 including the King's Gambit, Vienna Game, Danish Gambit, Vienna Gambit, Ruy Lopez, Giuoco Piano, Three Knights Variation, Evan's Gambit, Scotch Game, Scotch Gambit, Italian Game, and so many more. In today's video, we cover an underrated chess opening for white in the Ponziani Opening. The Ponziani Opening is a good chess opening system for white which has good chess opening strategy, chess opening theory, chess opening principles, chess opening traps, chess opening ideas, and chess opening moves. Do you want to win more chess games fast? Do you want to beat higher rated players? And improve at chess quickly? The Ponziani Opening might be for you! There are so many chess opening traps against e5 with the Ponziani, and in today's video we cover a game by Magnus Carlsen. The Ponziani Opening might not be the most popular, but that is part of why it's so good. If Magnus Carlsen can beat top Grandmasters with it, so can you.
One of the biggest mistakes I see is when players look at an opening like the Ponziani, and see it's not as popular as other e4 openings (Ruy Lopez, Scotch Game, etc.) and then decide to simply not play it. The Ponziani has a ton of tricks and traps that can help you beat higher rated players, and is a sound chess opening for white as well. The Ponziani Opening is a good opening for beginner chess players and intermediate chess players. Why is this? The Ponziani shows how to play good chess, as it prioritizes chess opening principles and chess opening strategies in every line and variation. The fastest way to understanding an opening is not just memorizing it, but watching Grandmaster games and learning how to navigate positions. We hope you enjoy this game by Magnus Carlsen, and we hope that you learn a thing or two about the Ponziani Opening in the process!

I definitely think the Ponziani is underrated and if your opponent hasn’t seen it before it can be smooth sailing ⛵️ 🔥

Love this opening. Although I am a lower level player (1200 ish rating) , I’ve memorized most of the lines and most players haven’t seen it before so usually it ends up being effective.

Same here! Ya it's a very effective opening system. A lot of traps just like a Gambit but with us not giving away any material. Great to hear it's serving you well.

I notice Carlsen forest a lot of ignoring where lesser players believe they have to play something. I notice he also ignores alot of pins and in general he just ignores and continues to develop and or attack. .

Yep! Part of being a great chess player is noticing the benefits of a "slow burn!" He's in no rush to play trappy lines and win the game fast. He slowly improves his position, looks for targets and advantages, and eventually converts.

Colle System + F4. I love playing the Colle so I'll try this. Looks like it makes a bad black bishop though.

Let me know how it goes! And ya your dark-squared bishop often doesn't get involved for awhile, but this doesn't mean it's bad. We will bring it in at the right moment.

18:39 Whatya mean black has no checks? If Kg1 then Qe1+
@TheChessGiant
@TheChessGiant Жыл бұрын
Great question! Well, it depends where the queen originally checks. If the queen goes to f4, and then we play Kg1. There is simply no way for the queen to go to e1. And, d4 + e3 + c1 are all protected by the white queen. And, if Qe5+, this would leave the queen open to moving to e1 the next turn... the only problem is that the white queen would simply capture it. We're then just up a pawn and Magnus Carlsen would easily convert that. Let me know if this makes sense and hope this helps! Thanks, Solomon
