The jump from ps1 to ps2 was huge and amazing.

It was a time when games were made to be fun and good value, not to be money extracting machines for executives and shareholders. The game design philosophy was totally different to what it is today.

Its always been about money (isnt everything) but i agree that games were also made to be fun back then, much better than todays games

It was probably the last generation where big developers were happy to take risks on new IPs and weird genres. They were the golden days, my friend 😎👍

I will always have a ps2 maybe I’ll turn it on maybe not but to look at it and appreciate remember when I didn’t have responsibilities feels like a privilege.

The funny thing is, when I considered buying one of these, I realized that despite the massive library of games, almost none of them seem appealing to me, and a lot of the ones that do I already played to death on the PC or Xbox back in the day, such as GTA 3, VC, San Andreas, Tony Hawk's Underground, NFS Underground - basically the only games I could find that peaked my interest were platformers like Jak and Daxter, Ratchet & Clank, and Sly Cooper series - also God of War I guess. Meanwhile on the PS3 and PS4 I have close to 100 games each and it's not nostalgia as I grew up in the PS1 and PS2 era. Strange phenomenon.

Who remembers eye toy play with the eyetoy camera? Ps2 is the best console ever. Only just refurbed mine, new thermal pads and clock battery. Re oiled the disk tray with white lithium grease. Fully removed dust, its kicking like new!

Console gaming started sucking after PS2. Playing all my old games, no updates needed, on PCSX2 upscaled with a DualSense 5 and it's all new fun all over again.

PS3 games generally only have minor updates - it's with the PS4 era when the big day one patches started becoming the norm.

Some have speculated that the Nintendo Switch could possibly beat the PS2 and become the best selling console but I think it really depends on what their next moves are. It is expected Nintendo is going to release their next console in 2024 so it will depend on whether/how long they continue supporting the Nintendo Switch and whether their next console is backwards compatible with Switch games. If it is then the PS2 will remain at the top since there will be no more reason to buy the Switch anymore when you can just play those games on the newer console instead.

I used to think the 7th generation was the worst, actually. You had a system that didn't do HD and catered to the casual audience, a system with a 56% failure rate, Sony being over confident and nearly killing their brand, and the beginning of the modern AAA game that doesn't innovate or do anything different. Now I realize we are currently in the worst generation because of the awful business practices we are seeing, and unfinished repetitive games. They honestly remind me of what I've heard about the products during the video game crash of 1983... nothing but the same unfinished crap over and over.

Well if the ps2 also had dead or alive 2 ultimate then I could possibly agree that it is the best console but it doesn’t so I’m gonna have to say xbox is the best console. It also has republic commando where ps2 does not. But ps2 had resident evil 4 and the force unleashed going for it at least.
