Ive been using a horizontal mount for several years, Definitely worth the investment. Other than the light flashing red the filter works fine. As for water pressure, I had my unit freeze a a few times along with my pipes and only the pipe split. If it can survive freezing solid, your water pressure would have to impossibly high since Ice can easily break steel and stone. Normal water pressure (well and public water) pressure is usually 50-75 psi +/- 5 psi. It takes 4,500 psi for a 1/2 inch copper pipe to split 1/4 of an inch lengthwise so you will NEVER experience that high of water pressure. That means water pressure is not a concern.

These filters don't last 100 gallons but only about 12 gallons. Green light becomes yellow then red at about 12 gallons and you are forced to change filters to continue getting filtered water.

I have a faucet that curves up and down, U shaped. So, the water filter sides right under it. Out of the way, when not being used. The filter lasts about a month, before it slows down. You'll know, when to change the filter. It just runs slow. Best to filter the water into bottles. Then put them into your refrigerator.

Please mention that you must run cold water through your filter for five minutes before the first use. Also, you must wait five seconds before each time you wish to get a glass of water to prep the filter. This is a very nice water filter. You can get the type that has no minerals added or the one with minerals added for tastier water. There are lab results on the purchase box if you wish to look at those.

Camp Lejeune Tetrachloroethylene (also known as perchloroethylene or “PCE”) was the main contaminant. The maximum level detected in drinking water was 215 parts per billion (μg/L) in February 1985. Do you recall a model where the center "click in side" faced the cover and not the housing? I know the first one I purchased the "tab side" faced the cover like all online videos and your video show. And I recall there wasn't anywhere to "click" in with my first PUR vertical setup. First off, I'd like to say thanks so much for doing these reviews and answering everyone's questions in the comments! They are super helpful! I have city water and ran a tap score test. My tap score results is a 68, which isn't great. The main big troublemakers on the list were Bromodichloromethane (13.9 PPB), Chloroform (54.4 PPB), Total THMs (72.46 PPB), Dibromochloromethane (4.16 PPB), Lead (0.00454 PPM) and fluoride (0.507 PPM). Do you feel the PUR Plus Faucet filter is good enough to remove these contaminants? I do have one for my sink but I am not totally satisfied. I also would like something that removes fluoride. Do you have any other suggestions I should look into with these test results? On a side note: I am thinking about using Pro One in my Big Berkey system or getting some kind of distiller. What is your opinion on distillation water systems? Wouldn't it be more cost effective to get something like that and just add minerals back into the water? Would be a good topic to cover.
@waterfilterguru
@waterfilterguru 5 ай бұрын
Hey thanks for your comment and detailed info! The PUR Plus faucet filter should be sufficient for reducing the disinfection byproducts (DBPs) including Bromodichloromethane (13.9 PPB), Chloroform (54.4 PPB), Total THMs (72.46 PPB), Dibromochloromethane (4.16 PPB) as well as the lead. Check the performance datasheet here www.pur.com/wp-content/uploads/pds_rf-9999_faucet.pdf And here is a link to the NSF/ANSI 53 certification for the reduction of VOCs (the DBPs listed) and lead: info.nsf.org/Certified/dwtu/Listings.asp?TradeName=RF-9999&Standard=&ProductType=&PlantState=&PlantCountry=&PlantRegion=&submit3=Search&hdModlStd=ModlStd Unfortunately the PUR Plus faucet filter will not address the fluoride. You'll need an additional filter for that. A simple solution would be a water filter pitcher that you fill with the PUR Plus fuacet filter. Both ZeroWater tinyurl.com/y2wrs7xn and also Clearly Filtered bit.ly/3XEksYj performed well in our own testing and completely eliminated fluoride. Be pre-filtering with the faucet filter, you will greatly extend the lifespan of the pitcher filter. Alternatively, distillation is also an option but it's both time and energy intensive, taking 6-8 hours to produce just 1 gallon of water. You would also want to consider remineralization.
@Metalgal80

@@samaelmartinus3273 by "ppm device" I assume you are referring to a TDS meter - ppm is a unit of measurement, which is often used to measure TDS. The PUR faucet filter is not designed to reduce TDS, so using a TDS meter to measure it's performance doesn't say much. You might find this video about what TDS meters do and do not measure helpful kzbin.info/www/bejne/r3nZlYyNjc6JsKs

If you ever need to remove it from the faucet, then you are in BIG trouble! The black ring that attaches to the faucet is made of a cheap, soft, plastic. If it gets even a little bit stuck, you are NOT getting it off without possibly breaking your fixture. The plastic sticks to the faucet and is too soft to use a wrench to remove without stripping it bare. I needed to ask a plumber to help me get it off when I needed to replace it! The idiots who designed this thing don't deserve the jobs that they have! Don't let the brand name or promises of great filtration fool you into thinking this is a well-made product, because it is NOT!

Thanks for sharing. It sounds like the runner o-ring became stuck, possibly due to a buildup of minerals/ scale.

@@waterfilterguru - Indeed, that was why I needed to remove it. Unrelated plumbing work had caused it to clog with sediment, so I was trying to remove it to see if it could be cleaned or needed replacement. But that badly-designed ring is not easy to get a strong grip on by hand due to the shape of the unit, and as I said the plastic is so cheap and soft that tools just chew it up. We were able to get the ring off, but only by first breaking the entire unit off so that a larger wrench could be used. Thanks!

Nope, these filters are intended for use with municipally treated tap water, which in most cases won't have microbiological contaminants due to the disinfection process at the treatment plant

Correct, biological contaminants (pathogens) are removed at the water treatment plant through the disinfection process. This PUR filter is intended for use with municipally treated tap water only, thus it is not necessary for it to remove microbes. That being said, if the treatment system goes down and you get a boil water advisory, keep in mind that this system will not protect you from potential recontamination in an event like that.
