I believe the other significant upgrade not mentioned is a 6R35 movement over the 4R35. 70 hour power reserve vs 41.

Great video my friend! After owning Rolex Submariners, Omega GMT's, and a TAG Aquagraph, I sold all of them and now only wear Seiko Diver's watches. I absolutely love their design, quality control, and continual improvement. A 1969 high school graduation present from my mother was a Seiko Diver's watch, and only requiring an occasional battery change, this watch has performed perfectly since then. My current watch is a Seiko SRPA 21 Prospex X Padi, and I actually prefer it over any of my previous high-end watches mentioned above.

Just got the Green unit. This watch is cool but it looks more black more often than it does green... it's kind of cool how it does this but I was under the assumption that it would be more green... light has to hit it right to make it look green otherwise it looks black. Considering the almost 1,000 price tag is largely do to color.... might have been better off getting the normal black SUMO and skipping the "ice diver" I ordered this specifically for the green.. and the green is too damn subtle... almost looks black half the time... Movement is fantastic and it looks great... just don't get the green one if you expect a clearly green watch :)

I do like the grey and blue dialed versions of this new Sumo. I think the blue initially has more pop but the monochromatic grey and ghost bezel is really growing on me. Too many blue watches right now.

I’ve tried this watch on at a local jeweler. I own the sbdc033 Sumo/Blumo. These newer Sumos are nice but I actually prefer the first and second generation Sumo much better. To me Seiko tried to tame or water down what made the Sumo a Sumo. The larger bezel font a thicker case and bigger hands is what drew me to the sbdc033 Sumo. Again nice watch but not my cup of tea .

new gen made the watch look generic. the orig sumo dna is toolish that is why we love it. come to think this is what happened to omega planet ocean where the 2005 edition is way better than what we have right now

Is it worth the extra money? Too me, it was but I suppose that’s subjective. I bought the SBD179 and it was worth the extra 150.00 to me for the dial color,inspiration, and packaging. Regarding the price, I watched the WatchTime interview a few weeks ago They were all wearing Seiko’s but Becky Kagan Schott “The Ice Diver” was wearing this one and, too me, the dial looked better than the more expensive Seiko’s the others were wearing. Also, they filmed it at an aquarium and I was a volunteer diver at the South Carolina Aquarium for 10 years. So,they got my money but I feel it was totally worth it. Also, compared to Swiss watches, I feel like the price is good.

It sees a to be a problem with the seiko us movements in production this year. I’ve had to return two so far. Annoying quality control issues I think. Mine froze periodically and then just stopped working, my other would work and then stop intermittently.

Sold my Blumo, I regret it. The polishing, brushing and case transitions on these are outstanding. When you have a special colour and nothing else going on and you call it limited, that's just a money grab imho. I like the watch, I like Sumos, if I really liked the ice I would pay the extra.

I prefer the blue dial version but I don't think the grey dial is worth the extra money... I love seikos so I put up with bracelets but I do think they are solid and functional but I wish they put more class in them.....

just Seiko abusing our generosity with all these overpriced limited this and that, I for one like seikos for what they were, keenly priced, good value for money and accessible, but that is changing as the QC issues are still there and the price is getting silly, Citizen will be getting my cash!! thanks for the good review dude!! :D

Nice review. I really like the Sumo, but I personally don’t like the dial. Plus the lens magnifier makes it an easy pass. Would never buy it with the magnifier. This is way too much. I would say $750 for the black is pushing it. You can get some of the 2nd gen Sumos for under $500. Seiko really is charging too much for there new releases. I, however, I am guilty of buying some.

Don’t judge it based on this sample. This is a watch that was in the Seiko office and passed around a bit-no idea what was done to it, and it was not sent in the best packaging to me either-but I disclosed this because of how it appeared in the video, and the fact the second hand was not moving in the main timeline of this video. Seikos are usually very robust.

@@watchreport still seems too expensive, picked up a citizen promaster diver for Xmas gift. Doesn't have sapphire or jewel movement, but solid watch ⌚
