just got one open box no tax last month. now with the 30 sigma 1.4 I have what I want. I do not vlog. no movies. I have 15 Sony cameras - every model from the hx80 (2) and the 100 (2). I want a camera I can carry with me as I never use a cell phone. Years ago I shot Leica and Hassy. my son has the 6400 and uses it for business vids. My ex was English - I have petted those little corgis the queen has at the stables. lol

Still use mine, it's my only digital camera. I also do film photography with Minolta cameras, so I got a Fotasy Rokkor to E-Mount adapter and now I can share lenses between both cameras! Of course, they're manual, but they look great and provide that subtly softer look that vintage glass gets.

Have several a5100s. Best 1080p gimbal camera you can get. Flippy screen and touch to focus makes it a perfect camera for that use. Also makes a cheap camera for a 2 or 3 camera shoot. The AF is great too. $225 w kit 2nd hand in Saigon. Good show.

just bought one on offerup for $350, and it's absolutely sold me on the Sony way of life, terrible menus and too few buttons notwithstanding. I've picked up several modestly priced lenses and the image quality is on par with my pro dslrs.

I have touch to focus on my Lumix FZ80. And speaking of Bridge Cameras, I also have an HX400v. It doesn't have a touch screen and is not rated as highly as the FZ80, but it just works.

Interesting, I haven't used the zv1 but will consider picking one up and doing a review. The obvious downside (to me) would be the lack of interchangeable lenses, but this isn't a priority to everyone.

what microphone are you using for this video since it doesn’t have an external mic input? i have this camera but didn’t realize it didn’t have that input until it was so late so i’m thinking of using an external mic connected to my iphone then syncing the audio when editing

I've had this camera for a couple of years and the overheating has driven me so mad that i'm on the hunt for a new one - possibly the gx9 which basedo n reviews doesn't seem to overheat. I've tried a dummy battery, cooling pack and 3 different sizes of memory cards (almost everything you recommended in your other video) and i'm not recording in heat or sun, just inside out of sunlight. Plus recording to an external source means I need an external recorder which super expesive (for me - on a small budget) - so as much as I love this camera / the video quality - I couldn't recommend it to anyone that is recording anything over half an hour - and it doesn't take a few minutes to cool down, its always taken me about half an hour. Dealbreaker.

Just get the a6400 or a6600. Plus you get unlimited recording, and better autofocus than the GX9. Sony has resolved overheating in cameras starting from the a6400 generation. The overheating on the a5100 made me sell it for a Canon 200D, which I now kinda regret cos I want a pocket camera as an EDC.

An SD XC memory card is the best for this camera, it means you can use the best quality video format XAVC S. I specifically use this card with the a5100 - amzn.to/2LkQMQv

The a6000 being equally cheap and more widely available is the biggest argument against the a5100. The 6000 offers a much more complete experience (as far as photography is concerned) with fewer compromises and missing critical features (the lack of a viewfinder and rotary knob on the A5100 are dealbreakers IMHO).

Sorry to hear about your camera, that sucks. I'd say the a5100 is still a good choice even now, or if you want an upgrade I've recently got the Sony ZV-E10, similar to the a5100 with newer features.

@@agentling1 My experience is it overheats if you record with it (internally) for a long time... but take the HDMI out into OBS or Streamlabs and I think its OK. I'm going to run an ultra-silent USB fan on it anyway when I use it.

The A5100 came later than A6000 with a brilliantly snappy and accurate touch shutter. Overheating is a pain, though.

@@AdamInside you can learn to live with that. After the first 15 minutes continuous video. You can only record 5 minute chunks. With these linitations it really great. Definitely not ok for recording full sport events, concerts or longish interviewes.

What lenses are you using? I use Rokkor (Minolta) lenses. They're relatively cheap, really damn good, and I can share them with my 1961 Minolta SR-1!

@@kerc Im using Canon FD 24mm 2.8 and two 1.4s one is Supertakumar 50 and Minolta PF 58mm for my A5100. if I need creative lighting I will use my A7 with these lenses. I wish the A5100 has hot shoe for OCF. My work is on my FB accnt "Rudjard Ian" sometimes I posted in Photography with Classic Lenses FB page...at this time and age Ima guy without Instagram lol

Sorry for my english! I am Hungaryan. You show in video the overheat time is ~26min. Why can my a5100 only 5 min recording then turn off becouse temp is too high? I bought in last year for youtube channel starting! Ok with obs and capture card dosent do this but when i recording -> only 5 min. Thanks for your answer! One advice: could you speak little bit more slowly? Becouse would be better for people like me who dont speak and understand good english. But i still sub and i like your work and videos! Still using one as a webcam for teleconferences, and trying to buy another two for different angles but they're so popular right now, prices on eBay have rocketed since I bought mine. Not sure I'd use one as a normal camera - the 6600 has overcome all of the previous 6xxx issues in one go, so I'd likely go with that. Obvs with a price differential but sometimes you just gotta go with it.

Nah, it overheats. And the recovery time takes a while. Just get the a6400 or a6600 if you want to vlog. Or a6100 but tbh I think it's not much of savings vs the a6400.

I've not had the chance to try out the RX100, but the lack of interchangeable lenses is the main thing that puts me off getting one. Hopefully I'll get the chance to so a side by side soon.
