I bought the SG ST a year back. I love it. I put a S&S 2 into 1 pipe on it and had it dyno tuned and it transformed it. Stock tune runs lean and hot. It regularly went into parade mode at the lights. With the pipe and tune it runs cooler and really hauls. When the tach hit's 3200 the 117 character changes completely and it goes nuts. I also have a Heritage with a 114 and it's a completely different animal. I put a lot of it down to the bigger cam that the 117 runs. My biggest criticism is the stock seat. It sucks. I have a CVO seat on for round town and a Tall boy seat for long runs and it's much better.

Great Informative Video. My previous motorbike was a 2006 Sportster 1200XLC (Yes a girls bike!). It was a great commuter and easy to ride. I now have a 2016 Street Glide Special and I just love my touring. I'm still learning, even after two years to control the bike when travelling at slower speeds. Mucking around with the Friction Zone and the Rear Brake is fun and a worthwhile skill to master. Wish this rain would shoot off! Cheers.

The SG and RG Specials were designed to give the bike a lowered look. This may have gone out of style with the advent of the "performance bagger", but not for me. I'm way too old to take 900 pounds (that's like a billion Kilos) to the track. I do like the King of the Baggers race series. It's close racing, entertaining and Harley and Indian are duking it out. Thanks for another great video and very happy to see Harley let you have the bike for a week. Nice !

Great review. In my opinion, going back to the cable clutch was a good move. My 18' Road Glide had a hydraulic clutch, and I didn't like it at all. It was probably the biggest reason I was never fully comfortable on it.

My ST has the RDRS system. I think it's standard on this model in Australia. It performs linked braking. If you stomp on the rear brake the system also applies the front brakes and vice versa. It's a great system. I also really like the hill hold especially when loaded down with luggage and a pillion.

It's actually the trail that dictates the unwillingness of a bike to steer at speed. HD and others have done tricks at the steering head in the past that gives the bike a longer rake (for style) while actually limiting the trail increase to make them easier to steer at speed. The reason I'm reiterating "at speed" will be clear to you if you ever ride a chopper. Their forks flop about unwieldy at low speeds. The faster you go, the harder all bikes become to steer. In physics, it's called inertia. Mass * velocity. The bigger it is, the harder it is to get a body to change direction. The race rep isn't unstable at the track speeds it was designed to run at. They're twitchy (unstable) riding around at street speeds. Conversely, riding a bagger around at race speeds is about like taking a Mac truck. Wider handlebars help with that. More torque. Unlike your notion that this is something akin to power, it's not. You are not any stronger because you have wider handlebars (or bigger gear ratios). You have to move them further than you would shorter bars to get the same reaction, but as it doesn't require a lot of movement to get a bike to flop over in a corner, it's a good trade off if you're not lane splitting. 126 ft*lbs @ 3750 rpms tells you the bike make 90 hp at that rpm. That's its strength at that particular rpm. The gear ratios dictate the torque to speed choices you have to put that strength from tire to pavement. The strength is what it is at that rpm i.e. 90 hp regardless of what gear (torque selector) you engage...which is still very good for an air cooled v-twin. Nothing about painting every inch of a bike screams HD to me. You will find no such homeliness in their design heritage. Willie G probably has to blindfold himself if he feels that he's about to be shown one of these "modern" styles. It mostly screams HD is now too cheap to provide chrome plating or paint with pigment.

I dont know whats wrong with me, but i dont like farings, i dont like loud or any music when riding. My phone is turned off and only goes on if i call my wife or an emergency. I like a gas gauge, speedometer, like to know RPM’s. I prefer the signal switches on one side and on the left. I love loud pipes. I only use paper maps. I love a rider backrest. Really helps to relax. I have-a kuryakan passenger back rest that folds down to be a rider backrest. Totally adjustable. With luggage on it folds back up and luggage. Is more secure and the luggage becomes my backrest. However, i am very old and probably stuck in my ways. And there are millions of road and street glides out there which i have tested. Not for me. But ride on everybody, ride on.
