Lovely. I had one of these back in 1995. I had around 300 games. A couple of years later it was stolen from me and this is the first time I see one again. =)

Ahhh, nostalgia! I bought one of these back when I was 15-16 in 1991-'92 from a place called MegaWare in Sunderland (north east England). It came with a white floppy disk drive, I can't remember the price but it was totally worth it. I sold my big game collection to fund the purchase but I knew it would pay for itself in no time once I'd copied all my friends' games. I would rent games briefly (and cheaply), copy them to disk and then return the cartridge, I ended up with hundreds of games. The only down side as I remember was that I had to keep buying floppy disks from MegaWare because they were specially formatted to be used with the Magic Drive. Happy days :)

I'm a 90s kid and I don't have even a vague recollection of these devices. Really cool stuff! Hard to imagine a Nintendo equivalent, but there must be one.

Infinity2z3r0 There’s a lot of these devices out there for all consoles. They’re all Chinese made and unofficial.

You might want to cover the ROM window with black tape to avoid the exposure to light....
@GlobalGarageAus5 жыл бұрын
OldTekBench Yes I did after the video was made. The windows respond to ultraviolet light only but you can’t be too careful

@@GlobalGarageAus Someone (can't remember who from the top of my head) did an experiment: he burned a EEPROM and left it on the bench for a while, periodically checking the data integrity on it. Even though it was never in direct sunlight or exposed to artificial UV light it took several weeks for data to get slightly corrupted. Moral of the story: even indirect sunlight can cause data degradation in an EEPROM, it just takes a while. EDIT: I think I found that video /watch?v=_vWgsZF5Ecg

@@Sheevlord Thanks Ill check that out. I now put stickers over the window right away. I have a roll of them that fit DIP40s perfectly. It's all so old school but I really like the tech of manipulating a chip with light.

nice vid, proof of concept for everdrive, sega channel, and dev. hardware. wonder what the second parallel port is for?
@GlobalGarageAus5 жыл бұрын
Fred Hamilton The second parallel port connects to the floppy drive. Unneeded these days.

Nice video =D I would say though its pretty weak compared to the Everdrive (ie. size of carts supported, and pain in the a$$ to connect up to PC these days), and in europe these often cost MORE than an Everdrive lol! Not so expensive if you can find one like this described as faulty or incomplete etc. Nice bit of kit though!!! Always wanted one of these!

GadgetUK164 - Retro Gaming Repairs & Mods Thanks mate. Yep this one was cheap as it was sold as untested and without floppy. I’m actually making a follow up video video now as I’ve got it working on Win10 with better software.

was this available back in the day in australia? also, what about a usb to parallel adapter?
@GlobalGarageAus5 жыл бұрын
zen Not officially available in Australia but as we’re so close to Asia a lot of these ROM dumping tools flooded into the market from Hong Kong. I remember seeing them everywhere in the early 90s.

Actually this was made before windows. Any Windows version after Windows 98 will not allow software to directly access memory or hardware and the software will not work. Windows XP works sometimes depending on what the software is trying to do. Running the program in DOSBox or similar programs might work because it emulates direct access to memory and hardware. Hope this helps anyone trying to run anything made for Win95, Win98 or Dos. Win95 and Win 98 run on top of Dos, like how Android runs on top of Linux.
