I went to parochial school, and an all boys catholic prep school in the 1980's with a jacket and tie dress code. Wore a lot of knit ties in my day. Still love them! Had a maroon one and I pretty much alternated light gray cords with a blue blazer, and dark blue cords and a tweed jacket. Still like that "Ivy" look.

I went to an all-boys Catholic high school. I wore a tie every day for four years. Later, I had a job where I wore a tie every day for ten years. I love ties (I've got more than a hundred). Ties aren't just for dressing up; I'll wear a casual tie with a casual shirt to go out for pizza.

The necktie is far from being dead.. Just because the number of men that wear ties is declining.. There are still men that wear them to work, especially lawyers bankers doctors etc.

If you want to be relevant, dress for style not fashion. Get a jacket that doesn’t gap at the front.
