Going off this video it seems a slouchy/unstructured collar may not be your preference but def give James Perse crews a try.. just for how well they drape. Try em in any of their jersey knits (my pref) or their classic. Their crews have the best drape (and fit) of any cotton shirt I own, their non-dark colors fades beautifully, they look good used, new, true to size and oversized by one. The only issues are that the hems & collar needs ironing for a neater look and certain stains can easily leave chemical discolorations. It doesn't have a vintage look you may be looking for but for a modern-style tee its worth trying out.

I got the Merz Tee earlier this year and I absolutely adore it. Compared to all other tees I’ve ever worn, it feels so effortless and cozy that I actively am looking forward to wearing it whenever I get the chance. The texture is amazing and the little triangle under the armpits really makes all the difference in fit and comfort. I’ll give the asket a try too, but right now I’m completely sold on it. I’d definitely recommend getting the off white one (they call it “natural” on their website)

Asket and Lady White Co shirts are some of the most long lasting, well-made, and good-looking shirts I have in my closet. Asket does run more form-fitting than Lady White. Definitely worth the price since both have now been close to 3 years of consistent wear now and they're as good as day 1.

It's absolutely mind-boggling how well their clothing is made! I have almost all my basics from them now. The T-Shirts look on year 3 still better than most T-Shirts from other brands. Even the colored ones hold their color really well. Got their light-blue jeans, made in Japan and Italy. Its by far my favorite jeans of all time. It holds their shape so well. I also got belts, oxford shirts, swim shorts and underwear from them and can't find anything bad about them - except maybe that they don't produce any sizes for larger humans. Can't recommend the brand enough.

Regarding the diagonally ribbed collar of the Real McCoy's tee, the sewist in me guesses that they took their normal ribbing fabric and cut it on the bias (AKA they cut strips of ribbing at a 45-degree angle, rather than parallel or perpendicular to the roll of fabric). This is done a lot to make "edge binding" that will wrap around the raw edges of fabric (like on the inside of an unlined coat). Bias-cut binding stretches more than straight-cut binding, which helps it go around curves (like the neckline) smoothly, without buckling, waving, distorting, etc. Long story short: they probably did it so that the collar would stretch and lay flat against the wearer's neck.

I swear by Uniqlo Supima cotton t-shirts. They legitimately last for years of constant use and washing as long as you always air-dry them, and they are super cheap. One slight problem I have found more recently (I can't be 100% certain, it's just my experience) is that the quality has dipped a bit. The newer shirts I have from that range have shrunk more than some of the ones I've had for many years.

Totally agree! Was in Uniqlo a week ago cause I wanted to buy a white supima T-shirt since I loved the previous ones I bought a year back or so which are still in along with the color in very good condition - but the ones I tried in store that week just felt so different. The Supima I tried on felt thinner and just didn't fit as well as my old shirts. Dissapointing.

My favorites you might look into are the Swiftland shirt in both short sleeve or long at REI, the FLX shirts from Kohls, Eddie Bauer Resolution Ts, Vissla the surfing brand has awesome stuff and Patagonia has both the Capilene and Responsibili-Tee shirts. You won't do yourself wrong with any of these. I myself have at least two or more each of all the above and some in various long sleeve and 1/4 zip versions. I use some when hiking as base layers in winter but they can double as light outerwear in long sleeve over another T when paired with a vest.

Also I think I remember seeing a post about how Asket sometimes changes the fit on their products but keeps the product page/name the same. I just bought a bunch of Arket (different company) T-shirts and am a huge fan of the mid-weight (220 gsm) and slightly prefer it to the Asket since it's not as thin. The lightweight is okay but nothing special and heavyweight felt similar to basic Uniqlo stuff. Retail price is 29€, or 25€ with a university discount which is nice. Not sure how they'll hold up long term but I'm hopeful.

At that price point, they are my absolute favorite all around shirt. my favorite fitting tshirt (I'm a very slender build) is the Samurai jeans 2 pack shirts. (But, again, bought in black) I do also think that it takes closer to 10 hot washes/hot dries to really see the full shrinkage of a (unwashed cotton) shirt. Both brands I mentioned are past that point, and the measurements (especially length) are now spot on perfect for me.

I got a nice one at H&M my last jaunt to Tampa. They had different price points starting at $10 (the one I bought) up to about $35. I compared it to one that was $17 and I could not tell the difference, and believe me, I stood there and tried. I would have bought the $17 one, but I swear there was no difference; they were identical. I didn't like the way the $35 was made; something about the seams, but I don't remember exactly. I just know I liked the $10 more and not because of the price. It was surprisingly heavy and very well made (nice collar too) and after I washed it, I was shocked how it still feels great; nice weight also and very slightly off white (almost unnoticeable). There are 5 tags inside, among them reading "Coupe Ample, Made in Bangladesh". It is double stitched everywhere and does have a seam on one side, which of course isn't str8 now because of washing. I usually buy a 6 pack of Goodfellow at Target, but for the few extra bucks, the next time I'm in H&M, I'm going to get a few more. I thought this guy was nuts comparing expensive shirts, when $10 will do it, but it's also the nicest T-shirt I have now. Since he mentioned "undershirt" I now see the difference (that's what Haines are), but I doubt I'll ever find one of those $90+ shirts anywhere to be able to compare them. I thought they were all undershirts which is why I didn't understand people spending so much on them, but I get it now. I mean, where do you find stores that carry those? I'm not buying anything that expensive online before trying it on; not because of quality, but for size. I wear a S, but in some I get M if I think it will shrink right. If I knew the brand and how it fit, I would. But I think I have to set a budget for $40. At my age, anything more would be a waste. After seeing another one of your videos, I decided this time I had no bargain budget and would pay any price under $100, just this one time, and The International Plaza has some of the finest stores around (Tiffany, Rolex, Vuitton, Gucci, Prada). I just didn't find a better T-shirt than the one I bought. If they had them, they were hiding them pretty good. H&M had two entire racks of T-shirts and after I got mine, I decided to take my $10 shirt and go home. I'm so careful not to get it soiled, I've only worn it once. And how does a [movie] cook get $90 for a kitchen work shirt? One drop of tomato sauce and it's ruined. Not very realistic; he should have been wearing Goodfellow, and in black, but I haven't seen the movie. I don't use .99 in pricing. I'm glad this man doesn't either. Example: $39.99 is not $39 and change: it is $40. My shirt tag said $9.99, but that was a lie. It was $10.

I was thinking about buying some Uniqlo shirts, but then your review a year ago talked me out of it. Now I'm having a tough time reconciling what you said in that review with what you said in this one.

Awesome. Been rocking the Uniqlo tees as my daily drivers for the past three years, super solid value! I love menswear but personally cant bring myself to drop a lot of money on tees.

Would be good to see Allevol. Both their standard ones and, if you want to try a different fit, the permanent style collab/version

+1 for the Real McCoys. I had the Whitesville tees and they bobbled slightly and the necks didn't hold up great.

I didn’t really care much when it came out but that Hamilton Pilot looks great on you. I should probably try one on 🤔

It's so funny seeing Velva-sheen as a quality menswear brand now. I'm from Cincinnati and my dad would always joke Velva-sheen was where guys would go to buy "factory seconds" of shirts. For example you could buy like P&G Bowling Team shirts that had an off label for like a few cents. His school would have contests on the most ridiculous.

Great vid. If you revisit this concept Kith is a brand to consider. T-shirts 2 for 60 and they have some $60 t-shirts.

Good vid - you put a couple brands on my radar like merz and white lady. Couple of notes - As far as Buck Mason goes it seems like they have a zillion different options but you chose one not made in USA. A lot of their tees are made here in Pittsburgh - I recently picked up their 90s boxy cotton tee and am in love with it. For grading: noting how scratchy tags are wearing them for a day... ex: I bought a dehen not too long ago and it is a great shirt.. but the tag can be itchy and cannot really be removed without damaging the shirt. and as another commenter said.. being a white tee how visible your nipples are... for example I think this velva sheen is a little guilty. As for ranking in the future it would be cool to do a tier list for actual comparison.

Could you review the Loro Piana Gift of Kings tshirt? It’s only $2,300 per shirt 🤷🏻♂️

Nice one Metallic Snail. Personally I’m into Pro Club. Fitted ribbed robust collar. Large amount of shrinkage but after that it’s a beast. Cheap too. I often ruin my tees just doing everyday things so it needs to be hard wearing and replaceable (easily sourced and financially accessible).

algorithm put this on my page and my god i'm glad it did. i've been searching for the perfect t-shirt forever now. found some relatively cheap ones i like (abercrombie essentials) but the collar on them just isn't great. subscribing now!

Be interested to hear your take on Bronson Loopwheel Tubular Athletic shirts. They're not actually Loopwheel and they're budget Chinese shirts, but they are thick and dense with a heritage fit and the company has surprisingly good customer service.

The Uniqlo t-shirts are awesome. So very soft and great looking. They do get some fuzz in the surface after many washes but the shape stays perfect.

Have you looked at American Giant.. or the Flint and Tinder from Huckleberry? The F&T offers several weights in cotton and also a merino wool blend version. The wool is very nice

I am always on the hunt for a good quality white tee, loved the video. A personal favorite is “basic rights” unfortunately they stopped production to do other things (sad) but bought multiple before they closed if you can get you hands on one would recommend

Calvin Klein sells 3 packs of crew necks that I own for years at a time. They're beautifully soft, drape well, breathe easily, and the collars haven't sagged on as some are coming up on 5 years old.

The most underrated shirts are the arpenteur pontus t-shirts, they're definitely different but I wish more people reviewed them because they are the only thing I wear in the summer.

I'm going to check out your other T-shirt videos right now. But I honestly can't believe that Hanes beefy tea didn't make it to this list. It is I swear the best T-shirt I've ever owned for the price. It's nice heavy durable comes in pocketees I love it.

Great comparison! Although I might disagree on the Uniqlo Supima as they’re kinda thin compred to what they used to release 2019! Also, could you please include H&M’s Pima cotton and Fruit of the loom premium cotton?

It’s hard to recommend the Uniqlo heavy U shirt if you don’t have a similar stature as Michael. The quality has severely dipped. I have the current or recently current models (without physical tags on the collar) and they’ve shrunken and gotten weird in places in terms of fit. I have the same shirt but from 6 years ago, it’s a heavier cotton, they have not shrunk, the collars are still decent and their colors have stayed (I have black ones). I’ve thrown out some of the recent ones because they lost so much of their dyes it looked sloppy but the ones I have from over five years ago are still in my rotation

This might sound a little strange, and pardon me if this is already included in the video, I'll probably end up rewatching it a few more times and delete this if it is, but- What is your height and weight so we can get an idea of the fit especially for people with a similar bodyshape size as you. I know there are size chart listed on websites for buying normally but an extra reference point would be mega appreciated. Thank you for the amazing video btw.

great video however I wish you talked about thin shirts as well. I used to think I want thick tee shirts however I have realized I prefer super thin tee shirts. they drape great and feel amazing on body. can also get a nice rockstar look from extreme tight fit some brands do in japan.
