Q. Is the treatment painful?

About Katie Piper
Katie is a well-known U.K. best-selling author, television presenter, activist, model, and podcaster. She is an inspiring young woman who has rebuilt her life after surviving a brutal attack in March 2008. Katie was just 24 years old when she had sulphuric acid thrown in her face by a 19-year old assailant who was recruited by a man with whom Katie had a 2-week relationship that had ended with him abusing her.
Katie’s injuries from the acid attack included third-degree burns on her face, neck, chest, and hands, and the loss of sight in one eye. She was hospitalized for 3 months afterward and spent 12 days in a medically induced coma. Surgeons removed the dead and damaged skin from her face and replaced it with a skin substitute, MatriDerm, to build the foundations for a graft. Piper has undergone more than 300 operations.
