Just discovered UAE pulled out of the joint venture ! Probably because of US tech ban, sanctions and .. unlikely to make it in time. They have tech from SU 57 with composite and engines will be from SU 57. India has money as it just moved into 5th largest global GDP ranking. India is developing 5th Gen twin engine Already started on initial frames and prospect of building 6th Gen Engines with Rolls Royce with rights to tech

If their claims are true on capabilities, if their claims are true on price and if they can keep to their claimed time frame to have it ready. Its a lot of ifs, but if the ifs are turned into yeses, than yes it could be a modern Mig-21, if. Excellent video, best one on the Checkmate yet. Cheers.

Russia isn't some third world society on the threshold of developing ultra sophisticated fighter jets. It already has some of the most powerful and sophisticated current fighter jets in the world, so building this mid range one isn't beyond their current capabilities. They simply need to upgrade their work on some fabrication processes and coating technologies. Can't fly a 5th gen/stealth jet that screws could be seen from miles away like their Su-57. Anyway, they already know, before even flying the prototype, that there's already a tested jet without true vertical stabilizers (the use of the dual-purpose, "ruddervators"): the YF-23.... so there's zero fear in the incorporation of that 5.5 gen innovation. That likely would make this mid range Checkmate Russian jet AT LEAST as stealthy as the F-22. If they get the coating right, it definitely will be much more stealthy than the F-22, as the YF-23, over-all, was more stealthy than the already exceptionally stealthy F-22, due mainly to the tail part of the jet. Their current issue is to finish their working-in-progress breakthrough/next gen engine, a more efficient, more dependable (in theory) like the Izdeliye 30. In 3-5 years, when that's finished and thoroughly tested, their next gen top jets will be on par with the West, from engine to over-all stealth features. China is the country "on the cusp" of being able to churn out truly top end fighter jets. Up to now, 95% of their work's mostly siphoned off/reverse engineered Soviet technologies. Once they started flying their up-coming B-2 like stealth bombers, in operational modes --- the fast ones with YF-23 ruddervator tail ends as well as the more conventional flying wing bombers --- then we know China, too, has joined the US, Russia, France, Britain, and Japan as nations able to build top end fighter jets and bombers. So far, their first gen of their "5th gen stealth" jets are questionable, at best, as true 5th gen stealth jets.

an Augmented reality HMD is in development for the SU 57. They might integrate it with Checkmate. Unlike the F 35 , which is a completely different concept and machine compared to F 22 , Russia seems to Develop the Checkmate as a single engine SU 57. IMHO, yes. I fully believe the Su-75 is intended to replace aging fleets of MiG-2X's, SU-2x's, etc. It doesn't have to be a world beater, it just needs to be zero hour airframes, easy to maintain and operate, and bring modern features to the market. If the SU-75 is a sales success and uses same cockpit as SU-57 then it could help with economy of scale making buying and building SU-57 cockpits to become cheaper. It doesnt look like anything is new or developing technology so the development cost should be relatively low. A number of countries prefer twin engine designs for carriers since if one engine fails over water you at least have a second engine to get home.

Russia has a history of exaggerating and a recent history of cost overruns and failing to field weapon in the numbers and capabilities they want. I would say it is highly unlikely that the Checkmate will be a match for the F-35, especially since the F-35 is out now and being fielded in significant numbers whereas the Su-75 is barely past conception. It may accelerate the obsolescence of the F-16, F-15, and F/A-18 though, which may be the true value of this plane in actuality. That would all depend on how many planes they can actually field and how stealthy it is along with the Su-57, the J-20, and the J-35.

It does not matter it is all built on reverse engineered old USA tech. The USA is always about 20 years ahead of the rest of the world on military Tech across the board. Its not even close. The new China stealth fighters coming out are 20-30 years behind the new stealth jets and Raider Bomber that the USA is about to put out not to mention the superior Raptor and f-35. Its funny how badly people want to believe non USA militaries are catching up, but they just arent. That is the benefit of having the largest military budget by over 10 times of any other country. I think the next 10 countries after USA combined dont have the same budget for military R&D and spending as the USA

I think the SU-57 has to be put into perspective. The Russian Federation is not the Soviet Union, they have way less resources to work with and can't spend money in the way the west or china can. It has half the economy of Germany, yet they were still able with help of their soviet design legacy to design a much greater aircraft than any actual contemporary nations. By accepting the myth Russian propaganda has put out that they are still as mighty as the USSR was, we forget what country we're actually talking about. Now the military has had to switch focus completely, seemingly without any warning from up above. Money spent on making the SU-57 work is much more effectivly spent on other things right now. I'm faaar from any kind of expert, but I can forsee that if any are finished the SU-57s will be used to compliment mig-31s in a more defensive area-denial and missile-launching role.

What Sukhoi initiating with SU-75 is the Russian worse version of Joint Strike Fighter program, because Russian Air Force hasn't needed this jet yet, funding for SU-75 heavily depends on foreign customers' real money. Meanwhile about 700 f-35s are in operational service. Not to mention the Us itself hasn't had the best track record with developing, making, and deploying stealth aircraft. So if the Us has trouble with it, then what chance does Russia have? My prediction is they make a good dozen prototypes, spend about 15 years in development only to have it go nowhere then give up and buy the latest model of the Su 30.

Looks like it is an ACE pilot who helped in the design of this aircraft. It is designed and built for speed, better management of G forces and minimization of drag, by the design, it can also dip and rise quicker than all combat aircraft out there, it's slimmer than the F22, faster than the F35 and can make a vertical takeoff. The nose size and shape suggests a longer range on board radar system. This just might be, the dominant fighter jet of the future. It looks like it is designed to defeat the F22 in air to air combat.

I would not be surprised if it had top-mounted secondary inlets that are used for the takeoff and then closed (switching to the main inlet at that time). I have heard that at least some soviet aircraft use this so as to not require a nice clean runway to take off (otherwise you risk sucking debris into the engine), and including a feature like this on the new aircraft would definitely help it appeal to many of their potential markets.

Western analyst's often makes mistakes while analysing Russian products, the tend to try to confuse us with some parameters which would in their own mind confuse us about it's quality or capability, having said that I would give my reason for pointing this out and it's simply because the ratio of currency conversion from Russian ruble to dollar is currently 1:7.2 which means that 1 USD equals to 72 Russian rubles so this gives Russia a competitive advantage over the United States on production cost so a wise analyst can't simply tell an audience that price would be the reason why sukhoi 75 will be inferior to it's Western counterparts, secondly Russia has a vast territory and therefore has most of the resources required for manufacturing most of this things in it's territory or in former Soviet republics so this implies that most of the materials needed are acquired at a cheaper and less strenuous cost, Those who tend to play down the potency of Russian inventory knows all this and yet tend to either lie, deflect, cover, confuse, play down, sideline or even dismiss Russian products entirely simply because the are afraid of competition, If Russian military and civilian inventory are so poor why put pressure on other countries not to buy it, This are the questions that wise people need to ask you don't believe something because someone said it we are human beings and therefore should exercise our power of thought.

great video as always! well, the 30 million price tag seems kinda impractical, and might just be the baseline cost, especially since Russia is developing its next-gen ccm and mrm, meaning extra costs for countries that are already operating older Russian platforms, and would also require other payments for infrastructure and training, also its maintenance cost would make its baseline cost impractical. also, the export potential of the fighter seems quite low, since the Indian Air Force has said that they won't procure any foreign fifth-gen platform and would go for the indigenous AMCA, and HAL is supposed to roll out the first prototype in 2024, Turkey has also started the construction of its TFX, and both of these countries have already procured s400 systems and have the sword of CAATSA on their heads, where Turkey is already facing the heat, so the most likely operator of the fighter seem to be Vietnam and African countries like Nigeria and Algeria, and even in these (African) countries, China has been increasing its reach and Nigeria recently procured the jf-17, and seem to be more likely to go for the fc-31, all in all, nothing can be clearly said at the moment, and we have to wait and watch

Eh, even if cost overruns place it in the 50 mil range for a base version (+10-20 more for the optional features), that is still delivering a comparatively affordable aircraft. It is definitely worth wondering what the maintenance costs and down times between flights will be. The SAAB Gripen is known as being one of the best cost-to-performance fighter in the world for reasons other than its initial pricetag after all.

If the Su-57 isn't impressive stealth wise and only lands in low fourth gen RCS territory, I don't see that this is going to be much better with likely far less funding and a lower unit cost. As everyone probably knows, STEALTH design makes an airplane bad in flight. Many important characteristics have to be sacrificed. The Russians wisely decided with the SU-57 - they made using STEALTH technology only from the front hemisphere, retaining all the outstanding flight qualities + super-maneuverability. Russian radars still see all STEALTH aircraft. So don't make a log with wings. STEALTH can and should be used, but without prejudice to flight performance. The Russian school assumes its own vision of modern air combat and preference is given to high flight characteristics and moderate use of STEELS, the Americans decided that the key to victory was low radar signature and sacrificed flight performance. But since foreigners like low radar visibility, no problem, the Russians have made SU-75 with STEALS technology for sale (demand creates supply - the law of trade). The manufacturer expressed the hope that the Russian armed forces will also show interest in this aircraft. That is, the Russian Ministry of Defense did not give a technical task and did not order such an aircraft, which means it was developed on the own initiative of the Sukhoi plant only for sale to poor countries. This step is more than reasonable in my opinion.

The USSR and now Russia have always had a habit of making wildly exorbitant claim and over stated specifications on almost everything it has ever made since the end of WWII. Just look at the T-90, T-14, Su-57, and many other military projects. They claim the Su-57 has so many sensor systems in it and this and that but cant even finish the engines. And the 3D-TV on these jets is limited to a small range side to side with the tail design. The effects will be negligible at best. At worst it causes damage to the skin or puts the jet into a spin. It's totally unknown if the Felon has systems that rival or mirror the F-22. It's also not even in direct service and still basically in testing. Can the plane correct a flat spin with zero input from the pilot? Can it monitor itself and reduce the load on the pilot? Or is it like every other jet where flying is the first thing the pilot is doing and fighting is second? Also, the true capability of the F-22 is top secret. Theres so little real data onnit that you couldn't possibly build a jet to fight it because missing one possible thing means you now have a gaping hole in your strategy and the Raptor will find and exploit it if it comes to punches. The F-35 is a quarterback in the skies, a bit like the F-22. They can designate targets through data link and then an F-15 with its heavy load of 22 missiles can just pull a hard climb and lob AIM-120s or anything else in the arsenal over the horizon. The team up of planes is what makes the F-35 so dangerous in the skies. It's hard to spot, hard to find, hard to defeat, and should you succeed, you're gonna have an bunch of Strike Eagles or even 15EXs that are going to wreck you. Even the Felon only has a reduced RCS and it's not true stealth. That wasnt taken into account as a requirement for the plane. The design is stealthy due to its shape and CAD dimensions. But it has no ROC and several factors make it ping on radar. Its RCS might be smaller than the plane, but it's still much larger than the RCS of the F-22 or F-35. And I have a feeling this one when complete will also be bigger than those.

Excellent analysis. 👍 Honestly speaking, India came out of Su 57 project because of its engines. Report says that engines are not fully ready yet and Russians having bad time to develop more modern reliable engines. India operates mostly Russian fighter jets in huge number, after sales service of these engines are poor. Russian aircrafts cost much less but maintenance service cost is higher than Western products. Engines of Su 30MKI and Mig 29 are not reliable enough and not combat ready on time. Slowly India shifting it's move to buy fighters from western countries. India also planning to make 5th generation fighter for thier own use. I am sure they will not go with checkmate.

Actually this plane is derived from SU57 in so many aspects. So R &D costs are much less as compared to something developed from scratch. Take the case of Engine. It's the same idylze30 used on SU57. Most of its stealth related components are derived from SU57. So are its avionics, weapon package, maintenance software etc. Only the real R &D went into airframe which is radically different from SU57. So Russians had a point when they talk of price competitiveness of this plane considering its single engine. Also 30 million is the price of basic variant. Depending on add-ons it could go up to 48 million as they said. It's really tailor made with middle and low income countries as target customer. It's really not for Russia with its vast border where single engine aircraft is not an option unless you go for huge numbers

30 millions for base fighter is a realistic price. It's basically a very cheap fighter with stealthy slim frame and a good engine. I look forward to this fighter going into production in the 2050's, if at all. Remember, the first X-35 flew in the year 2000. The F-35 is just now hitting its stride. That's with the near infinite funds of the U.S. and its allies behind it. The SU-75 won't have that.

The statement is a bit false but ok. The F-22 went operational in the 2005 while it's development started in 1984. NGAD is supposed to be IOC in 2030 and replace the Raptor

@@stealth225 Operational in '05 but in development and production since the 80s. Semantics. And we still had the F117 before anyone had even considered stealth viable. The timing of the NGAD doesn't matter. The fact that we've got a 6th gen fighter well into development and testing while other countries are just now catching up to us is really the point. They're just way behind the curve, is all I'm saying.

Is there even a Checkmate prototype flying today? For that matter, is there even a full size mockup? At 12:40 u mentioned you'll track its progress and update w new videos...I'm thinking that'll be a short video, nothing to update.

I see su 57 as study plane developed from Su 27. Probably they found out that 57 is not good from point of cost benefit. This one will be fully developed to be more stealth from screech and much more simple and cheap. This plane is best option for Russia itself. Cheap, simple, robust, … i don’t think that Russia need this export.

It’s not an alternative to the Su57; Russia won’t even be buying them for themselves as of this moment. It’s a dedicated export primarily to offset the massive overheads of the Russian aerospace industry.

@@92HazelMocha what is alternative for what, depends of the vision of future war. For which enemy you prepare and how you see the scenario of such war. if I would be Russia I would rather have 300 su 75, then 150 su 57 at any time. With 300 su 75 they can intercept 500 f35, with 150 su 57, they cant.

@@markopodganjek845 The Russian airforce doesn’t really operate that way, while in the west we rely on aircraft for air defense and interception, the Russians rely on surface platforms like the S300 and S400. Actual air to air interception is rare for them and is done by specialized interceptors like the Mig31’s which just received another round of updates. The SU57 is designed to take out enemy AWACS, Tankers, and deploy strike packages as opposed to as an air superiority fighter or interceptor. Checkmate is designed as a small export multi role, and aside from its stealth, it’s roles are already fulfilled within the Russian airforce. They probably won’t purchase any for a long time, or even invest the government’s money in its development, as they’re already strapped for cash and frankly don’t really have a need for it.

@@92HazelMocha what you described doesn’t provide air supremacy. With S300 or s400 one can hunt enemy planes but cant attack troops. For that you need planes and air supremacy. If not the best planes, then to have at least manny of them. And Russia is here quite short against west. And also against Japan and South Korea. It needs cheap multirole planes more then anybody. Thousand of them.
