The internet has been around to the mass public since August 1995 when Diesel was still holding the WWF title. For years up into my Middle School Years in the Late 00's Wrestlers still kept to Kayfabe in all different platforms including interviews and while the concept of Wrestling being "Fake" was always present, actual young fans believed what was going on since the wrestlers still kept it hidden. It wasn't the Internet which made it go away, it was a lot more difficult and everyone could just type it up or not, but Social media itself was what killed it, with the actual wrestlers no longer caring to keep their characters hidden and treat it as if their Wrestling persona isn't important at all.

With the way that Kayfabe has died, it's allowed a new approach to take it's place. In the old days it was about making the story seem like real life for the purposes of suspending disbelief and you can see in the progression of wrestling how easy it was to suspend your disbelief. But now, for better or worse, it's about blurring the lines between what's real and what's an act in order to get people to suspend their disbelief, at the end of the day marks are always going to be marks and they'll enjoy the product in the way that they do but even kids are going online and finding this stuff so it's easy for even the younger audience to become disenchanted with it all. I'm only in my early 20s and even I remember being told by my brother that wrestling was fake when I was a kid. The new approach kind of works now, because in the world we live in it's becoming increasingly harder to live that gimmick and so in order to offset that most wrestlers almost have to inject some degree of real personal life into it. In a snappy one liner, you either live the gimmick or you are the gimmick.

Kayfabe never really dies it just evolves, society and the industry is always evolving and all it takes is a wrestler to figure out how to evolve Kayfabe to fit that. It's harder than ever but as some guys are proving it's possible

the fact that Take would even *suggest* that kayfabe didn't die until his HoF speech is laughable. It died in some form or another multiple times over, but the nail in the coffin was the promo from Vince McMahon, literally detailing the change in creative direction ("good guys vs. bad guys), kicking off the Attitude Era in late '97. That being said, it is nice to see some talent try their damnedest to keep it alive, a la MJF.
