Is the Unique / Legendary Upgrade worth it for USS Gearing?

It was lowered and narrowed a year or two ago, so it is harder to hit. The conceal of the LM/UU is nice, but the nerf to the reload kinda put me off when I played it. This was especially true in light of how common radar ships are at T10. I just took it off.

What I like about the concealment is the wiggle room when sneaking in and spotting for Clan Battles. Also I tend to avoid other DD's and would rather just spot them for the cruisers to shoot. The guns are better than Shima, and I think the torpedoes are as well. So I tend to not get spotted at all, primarily killing cruisers and Battleships with torps.

Its a must have, no ifs thens or buts for competitive (Kots/CBs). Anywhere else though you’ll be fine without it

Still gearings conceal is very good even without this legmod really is it necessary?

It's not necessary; it just gives an advantage in competitive play. I run legmod Gearing in clan battles as scout/smoke/torp boat. I outspot every other ship except Shimakaze, and can gun that one down. Without legmod, 5.9 concealment is close to Daring's 6.0 and I'll likely lose that fight. Smaland has 6.1 concealment. The legendary module just lets you build into a specialization.

It’s depends on people’s play style. I find that the .3 km isn’t really worth the loss in reloads

The Gearing is hot garbage and has been for a long time. It used to be the king of DD brawls and was supposed to be the line with good AA however it no longer fills either of these roles. Anything you can do in a Gearing can be done better in a Shima now. The Gearing is a fat slow Shima with slightly less bad guns in exchange for one less torp rack. So many games in the Gearing I get spotted one time and get hit for 75% of my hp from a single BB because it is so fat that it arms AP when angled away and so slow that it is easy to hit from far away. It is a real shame too because the Gearing was my first T10 and my favorite for a very long time. I even bought the premium camo back in the day for it. Now it just sits in port.

Suit yourself. I'll continue to run legmod Gearing in Clan Battles as a scout that outspots anything stronger and eats the only ship with comparable concealment: Shimakaze.

@@somersthesunless1874 main problems are the hp pool and the shell arcs if the hp pool is increased and the shells arcs are made flatter then it's effective dpm will increase by a lot and cause it also does have some plating so if it does take dmg then at least it will have the hp pool to survive longer

-The torps are way better than Shima's. -DDs can't take full pen damage from BB guns, so if you get hit hard, it's because lot of shells connected anyway.

Maybe your problem is between the ears. The Gearing was my first T10. I unlocked it back when the only alternative was the Shima. Back then it was amazing and I won a lot of games in it, however due to power creep in this game it is no longer competitive when compared to the alternatives. The whole gimmick of the US line was lesser torps in exchange for amazing guns and AA. It now falls behind in every single category of it former strengths to stronger options. Can you win games in it? Yes of course, but you would have won those same games in anything else only easier.
