Been dreaming of an R50 like forever. Who doesn't want 1000nm? Then I got a 2.5 BPC Transporter, and whilst it's finally running like a champ thanks to a lot of Darkside bits, endless special tools and about 700 research and garage hours, just half of a V10 has scarred me for life! I'm cured of my R50 desire, but happy to watch someone else do that much work!

I will be removing my V10 for a few expected maintenance items in a couple of weeks as well, this will be the second time in my ownership of the vehicle. Thanks for your support of parts and ecu fine tuning. The first removal was due to a oil leak from the valve gear housing. This lead to the replacement of that housing, camshafts, and power steering pump as other faulty items when I first purchased. Since it has been running strong🤘

For everyone having a leaking tandem pump: Don't just swap the gasket. Almost in all cases the reason for a leaking gasket, is that the pump gets heat cycled, warps and elliptically pulls itself of the gasket. It's of course in the tenths to hundreds of millimeters, enough though to make the gasket leak. Changing the gasket is only a short term fix. A side note: The drum n bassish breakbeat Gran Turismo/WRC menu music is really cool. Reminds me of something like Star Guitar from Chemical Brothers.
@88rsr6 ай бұрын
I have this on a 2.0 PD, if left a week then it will take a few cranks to start (otherwise it starts first crank every time) and the leak itself is only a tiny mist over that course of time. Tried a cheap gasket first but it still does it so figured the body must be slightly warped

I am 'lucky' enough to also have a V10 BLE. I do my own work on it and I have seen that it's sort of possible to remove the engine without a lift if it's taken out through the front of the car (removal of intercoolers, winch, bolt-on structure etc). One of the jobs I think I have approaching is removal of individual subframes to allow for change of bushes and generally clean up the components and get rid of the inevitable rust. The car has done circa 140k miles and so I know an engine removal is at least somewhere on the horizon...

Hey chaps. Commenting from aus here. Always intrigued to see your vids on v8, v10 and v12 tdi motors. My dad has had a prefacelift v10 touareg since about 2013. It was 5 or so years old when he got it. To date its got 95000kms and the only maintenance its needed besides filters and oil, has been a tailhaft centre bearing. They are great machines. I myself have had v8tdi q7s and i feel like they are a better engine power/noise/efficiency wise, but the v10 are probably more reliable? The design of the twin front subframe on these older chassis q7 touareg cayenne is insane. They are a fookin tank. Now i dabble with tdv8 range rovers. Whens more v12tdi content coming 😊 ??
@DarksideDevelopments6 ай бұрын
V12 coming soon! V10 would be more reliable under water! V8's seem OK reliability wise but as with anything, loads of small failures that add up when everything is there twice! Better than a RR whatever happens! haha

I have a question: After recently getting myself an a5 8T3 and seeing your videos is there a mileage limit to when you shouldn’t build 3.0tdi engines to make a few more horses or is there none as long as the engine is healthy and what would you change out before it brakes just because the part is known for blowing up ?
@DarksideDevelopments6 ай бұрын
Literally depends on how well they've been maintained. They are solid engines that can do good power. Timing chains are something to check on them, our A7 3.0tdi had an issue with them that we sorted out - kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y2PGe3Sjir2kgNU
