One day, my friend offered to take shrooms and I decided to join in. During the trip, I had a realization about my understanding of nonduality. I pointed at the buildings across the canal and said to my friend, "Isn't it incredible that everything we see isn't even real?" This was a riddle I often used to reflect on nonduality. However, as I said it, I realized that I didn't actually believe or experience what I was saying. My friend responded cautiously, "Well, everything we see is real." This made me realize that my philosophy was not in alignment with my awakening experience. I began to view the concept of nonduality differently. I came to understand that there is a distinction between what we call the "world" and what we call the Earth. The "world" can be thought of as an illusion, a projection of our perception. However, by adjusting our perception to reality, we can see the real world. On the other hand, the Earth can be seen as a conscious being, similar to ourselves. Its physical manifestation can be thought of as the crystallization of consciousness. I hope this perspective helps.

@@katsrk3039 For me enlightenment is the Prophet Muhammad's ascension or the night journey where he is believed to meet God on that night. That means he discovered the truth about being human. And we are all khalifas (viceroy, successive human) of God just like Moses, Jesus, Muhammad. “And when your Lord said to the angels, I am going to place in the earth a Khalifah, they said: what! What Rupert says if of course true. The world is real but not physically so. The fact that cannot be disputed is no one has ever experienced physical things directly. All we have ever known and can can ever experience is our own consciousness. Having said that, we cannot force ourselves to experience the world as if in a dream which is how real sages experience the world. To them the waking world is no different from a dream, only longer. Its not just a concept or an idea, but really experienced as such. This transition will only happen when the ego is totally dissolved. When the ego is destroyed, whatever it has constructed will be destroyed too. Chief among these is the belief in the physical reality of the world.

what I am getting of this is that my being, even my "bad" habits such as watching youtube videos, while my mind says I should concentrate on meditation etc. is happening very naturally, and is my "being", that is my way of being naturally, without trying to do anything other than what just happens. I have often wanted to get away from this natural thing, to do something more productive for my spiritual growth. But as the world is just infitie being, infinite me doing what I feel like in the moment, if I just go with that flow, and yield to what is OBVIOUSLY happening by itself, that being of myself, will shine through and by living it, it can be used to find true reality and peace.

Exactly: what is the definition of "real"? We think "real" is something we can touch. But when we touch things are we even touching them? What are those things anyway? We go down and down and down and those "real things" aren't "real" anyway, because they're not even "really" there. So what we mean is, our experience of "reality" is "real". And because "reality" isn't really there anyway, what we actually mean is our "experience"! So our experience is real. Reality is our experience.

Not to disrepute science or anything at all, but isn't science the how, the mechanics, the measurement of one thing against another, in-fact the measurement of the unknown against the "known". And when we realise what we think we know is not really a known at all, or it's only a known in comparison with another known, then we know there are no knowns and everything is open to interpretation.

I have one question though, especially since Rupert mentions Ukraine here- If one takes the nondual teachings wouldn't it be correct to state: In reality there is no Putin and no Zelensky---both are one; consciousness or beingness assumes the roles of the attacker and defender and the bullet and the rocket , the villain and the culprit and all the people dying and dead are beingness itself attacking and dissolving itself?

Let’s take two words: water-moon and rabbit-horn. I define water-moon as the image of the moon we see on water. Rabbit-horn is the image of a rabbit with a horn or a horn came from a rabbit. Are these real? Both are appearance in mind - if you like you can say appearances in consciousness. Water-moon is a reflection of a real thing but NOT the real thing. Rabbit-horn is a pure imagination but an image based on two real things (rabbit and horn). In summary Things always appear in consciousness (or with the consciousness) but what appears is only a representation and sometimes what appears is pure imagination based on what mind got exposed to before.

For me is at this question always that most exciting that it is all the same for a consciousness. The experiencing consciousness experiences everything what appears in the spirit, a distinction between something comes directly from the spirit, or it still has information of an outside world is not to be distinguished for the consciousness..... Thus illusion and reality are one and the same...

Illusion is misinterpreted when the person who senses an object, when that person looses ability to sense it they describe the object as an illusion where as the person's senses may called as incapable but the time some call as fourth dimension may change objects structure therefore what persons felt becomes something else with the time. Although the object looks same after sometime it had changed

The Hebrew root to the world (haolam) is the same as the root to the verb "to conceal" (hehalem) so it is not inaccurate to say the translation for the world & the universe is "the concealment," and then, the question for a seeker is, what does it conceal?

Hmm, I feel like the original Vedantic language, and the sophisticated Indic philosophy accompanying it, was more than sufficiently sensitive to the subtlety of the distinction he makes here - I haven’t come across any text which altogether denies that the phenomenal world exists in any sense, even in the relative point of view. Just this morning I came across this passage in the Yoga Vasistha which seems rather clear to me: “[The World] is both real and unreal: because it is perceived it appears to be real, but because of inherent contradiction it is unreal”. I feel like Spira ji is belabouring something of a purely semantic point; perhaps it would be best to study the original Sanskrit than hang on to the English words “real” and “unreal”

All views are shaped, a lens imposes certain boundaries, it focuses and limits attention, so seen through a particular lens, or context, the effect of looking through one, which while we do is imagined to be singular or private, and through which images of objects exist seemingly separate from the viewer, a condition imposed by the lens, we describe what appears as a world, “out there”. I'm concerned with my part in accepting the influence of a particular lens, or any influenced view. One universal consciousness? Maybe mind is simply a shared field, and not billions of discreet platforms. In mind, there is that which attempts to influence mind. I say that because I see its reflection in the action of all that has access to it. The attempt to influence “in the world” is constant. Everyone does it, as if it's familiar to everyone, but rather than do what's being done in mind by repeating the action of it in “the world”, an imaginary outward arc of perception that sees an “external world”, I'd rather take responsibility for the influence I accept in mind. I think there's an influence in mind that isn't kind, and one that is. I accept responsibility for learning which is shaping the lens through which I look.

Everything what is that is real. What isn't real isn't or is nothing. So something what isn't real cannot even experienced by anyone. There isn't something what isn't real. It's like to point out that something is nothing. Illusion is a real thing experienced by consciousness. A lie is real thing. It's about the relationship between different real things. Truth and lie are both real things. A lie cannot be not real because it is embedded into reality itself.

Ok so what? This is God's dream that we all are in. Everything that is real because consioussness has tools to convince you that it is. Just like in a dream you don't know that you are in it when you in it. You can take psychedelic and melt reality away. You can manifest things just by your thoughts. You can breakethrought the dream state.

In the book Getting The Life. Experience You Want Reality Simulator Manual . Earth is just like a Holodeck on Star Trek because we were born in the Holodeck we dont know it's just a simulator . Earth is a teaching device to grow in consciousness where people can out play their dramas and learn from their experiences ?

Why bother? If we are part of the grand Godhead, then why not be born intact and in possession of all knowledge of reality? Thence we could merely play amongst the stars without need of learning and suffering.

Ramana Maharshi did simplify but yet he was very grounded in Shaivism. Two people the people who removed these trappings of religion would be the two Krishnamurtis (Jiddu and UG). JK's experiences seemed very similar to Iyer's.

The word Maya (= illusion) is defined differently by Advaitis and Vishista Adavitis. Maya is the prakriti - an amazing root matter and is real as per Vishista advaitis. There are detailed explanations for verse 7-14 of Srimad Bhagavad Gita.

Consciousness is responsible for thoughts. Rupert even states we are not in control of our thoughts, so I conclude that consciousness is playing the world of duality and the war in Ukraine consciousness is responsible for. We are just the observer from what I understand and that is a concept too.😊

I have heard that the solid things we call "real" are not really what we believe we see and touch! Due to the fact that everything solid is really made up of Atoms moving rapidly - and Atoms are mainly made up of empty space! So, now what?

🧠 The imagination is a playground to life. But don’t ever let your imagination get the best of you. Life is what you make of it. By the way you think is the way you feel. Whatever you create in your mind you create in your life. But the reality is when you put it into action, so others know what you’re capable of doing by action. We are like the battery 🔋 🪫. We can think positive or we can think negative. The choice is ours through our free will. So believe what you want it’s your choice. In life and how we choose.

MY MEDITATION CORNER( printed and pasted on my bedroom wall) -------‐--------------------‐' The Knowing 'Being': Look in all experience for that which does not appear, move, change, evolve or disappear. And know yourself as that. The Nature of 'EXPERIENCE': Experience experiences itself as one seamless, indivisible, unnamable, ever-present whole. It is only thought, which is itself made only of experience, which imagines that experience is fragmented into objects and selves. What is GOD: The Eternal One Life underneath all the forms of life. What is LOVE: To feel that presence of that one life deep within yourself and within all creatures. The separate self is not an entity; it is an activity: the activity of resisting what is present and seeking what is not present. Provisional definition of CONSCIOUSNESS: Consciousness is that in which all experience APPEARS It is that with which all experience is KNOWN It is that out of which all experience is MADE ['Experience' is anything with objective qualities, which has attributes.] There are three(3) essential steps in the spiritual path: The FIRST is to notice that one is not a body or a mind but rather the AWARENESS in which these appear, and with which they are known. The SECOND is to explore the nature of Awareness and discover that it doesn't share the destiny or the limits of the body and mind - that is, to discover its eternal, infinite nature. and The THIRD is to live a life that is consistent with this understanding.

Great explanation. Another alternative to help.understand is the opposite of this. If the so called material world was outside of consciousness it would be solid and permanent. Quantum mechanics (double slit experiment) proves that nothing in matter is solid or permanent. Nothing material actually exists until it is Interacted with the 5 senses (us). Without sensual interaction all matter (the entire universe) exists only as Information without any specific location. A bit like the data that makes up a movie but only exists as the movie while we are watching it on a screen. So, rhe only permanent reality is us / God/ spirit/ consciousness/ soul/life.

Sorry Rupert, you got this one wrong. Nothingness can try to convince itself that stuff is real. Nothingness is nothingness. Sure there's experiences going on, but they aren't real. The Ukraine war is just a story playing out, it's not real. There's a story playing out to give ego strength. That's the point of these experiences. To give ego strength and make the illusion that much more believability. Yet if you're playing in the world of belief, you're never going to realize the truth that it's all bs lol. We can enjoy the experience or dislike it but it's not real. It's all we got though lol. The point is to realize it's not real, just observe it with neutrality and indifference.
