I have a T7, and he’s right on all points. Great bike on and off road. Geared a bit high for highway use, but it’ll do 80 mph no problem. Around town the drivetrain whiplash is severe due to the chain tension variance but it’s still tolerable. It is slightly top heavy but also not a real issue. And the bike is so simple that you don’t have any panic attacks about going to the middle of nowhere 100’s of miles from anything because you can actually fix any issue there is yourself. It even has tubed tires, so even if you bend a rim you can still repair or replace a tube (as much of a pain as that is) and keep going. There are no fancy electronics to break, just ABS which works very well, and the brakes are a bit soft but that’s actually a good thing off road for this bike. The seat is too stiff though. I went on a long trip and my butt and ummm… taint… were in pain.

@@jgs1703 Motorcyclists seem to be most confused about gear ratios, and I haven't figured out why. Motorcycles have the worst gearing of any vehicle on public roads. Trucks today have beautiful, tall (high) overdrives that make the engine idle at 70mph with all the torque of modern engines. But then you hear motorcycles go by, screaming at 5,000 rpms to go 55mph, it makes zero sense. Motorcycles NEED an overdrive! WHY do we not have an overdrive yet???

@assortedpov4 жыл бұрын
SkydexFPS Yes to both, my friend. More power and better suspension. Also the engine and gearbox are much smoother, clutch is lighter too. I think the SP is worth it for the suspension - admittedly I haven’t ridden the standard 09 but I sat on one, it felt very similar to the 07 when I sat on it and rocked the suspension a bit. From what I’ve heard in most reviews, the suspension in the basic 09 isn’t much better than the 07. And it really makes so much difference; made me realise how much the 07 makes you work to keep it stable in certain situations. I don’t ride particularly hard, I’m not out trying to get my knee down on the road, I’m just taking in the English countryside but still the suspension has got me taking corners faster than I’d have dared on my 07. The forks are so much better under braking also.

Legend has it that in 1980 a guy in Yamaha ordered a billion instead of a million turn signals and his boss said: "dude, we won't order newer ones until we use all those we have".
@BluTrollPro3 жыл бұрын
I think it's details like that the separates Yamaha from say, Honda. Honda produces a beautifully finished end product, with very few compromises of quality. Yamaha on the other hand, know that the indicators, plate holder & exhaust will be ripped off and replaced 90% of the time within a week of it leaving the showroom, so they used it as an inconsequential means of lowering cost.

I will never, for the life of me, understand why Yamaha continues to punish the American (and apparently Canadian) market with these outdated monstrosity indicators. I had them on my 2009 FZ6r, had them on my 2017 FZ07 and they were crap on both bikes. Lenses fell off on their own and I did change out the entire turn signal on both bikes...point is, the user shouldn't have to. I have a 2017 Triumph Tiger now and none of the lights need changed. Come on Yamaha...HID/LED headlights and taillights but big old amber indicators, really?

Amazing the info you can get from an enthusiast with a relevant education isn't it? Rather than some shill reading from corporate cliff notes. I like when some journo talks about how something feels. Like there subjective opinion is useful. Here an opinion ( light front wheel good slow speed technical) is backed by a sciency reason why that should be and how it was achieved. Bike is too expensive though. Should be under 9000 for a 700 ptwin.
