Excellent reference video. The one fake 1914-D I didn't see you expose are those 1914-P with a 'D' glued on. I will never buy any coins off of Etsy, TEMU, or other sellers of products at bargain basement prices. I've seen too many of these sellers try to sell fake coins. I'll buy coins off of eBay, but, I've had to have purchased coins from this seller previously, the coins are not obviously overgraded, the seller accepts returns, and it's a coin I need for my collection. It's unfortunate that many people are being scammed by these unscrupulous sellers, then the buyer thinks all coin dealers are scam artists when they try to take a fake in to sell for a large profit, only to be told it's a fake.

Absolutely!!! If it were that rare then why do these places like wish temu ect etc have a unlimited amount of "rare coins" at their disposal for sale?! I just don't see how they can do this without back lash from consumers and being reprimanded for targeting consumers and feeding them lies and false advertisement.Not to mention profiting from it. The fleecing of America. Brought to us by China,India etc. (Not that all people from these places are bad) Just like not everyone in America can be labeled by acts of past predecessors.❤

Another great video Daniel. I don't own a 1914 D yet. So thanks for showing us what to look for.

I bought a penny off of wish that said genuine but, too perfect like the one he's showing as counterfeit. A brown paint like color all one shade . No flaws etc etc. Out of all videos out there I feel like this site is the absolute best with the right info. ❤

Daniel, I had a local coin shop owner sell me a 1914 D Lincoln cent. I had it sent to a grading company and they told me it was fake. I took it back to the LCS and he gave me back my $1,700 back and he did tell me it was not fake. So.....time passed and a friend of mine went to help his dad , after his dad got sick and the friend told me he found an entire roll of these FAKE Lincoln cents. I was floored. Needless to say, I went back to the original LCS and shopped a couple of times, but no more. There is no reason to spend my money when someone wants to cheat me out of hard earned money.

One bad story I heard once was a guy took his `14 D to a coin dealer to sell and the owner said it was fake and he had to take the coin from him and destroy it because `it was illegal to own`. The bad part was it was a coin his kid had in his little collection and now he had no coin and nothing to show for it. I think the dealer ripped them a new one if you asked me. sad.
@jenihansen72017 күн бұрын
@@leechild4655 Gosh, that is sad. Poor little boy. We don't know if that particular coin dealer was telling the truth either. He just took it and said he was going to destroy it ? Did he destroy it in front of the man ? If not, he got a free 1914 D that he probably sold to someone else.

In the mid seventies I went into what was the only LCS I could get to being young and had to take the bus. The dealer knew me and was always friendly. He brought a 14 D out for me to look at, and even with my young untrained eyes I spotted a badly done 44D. I pointed this out to him, he agreed, and he was generous with his praise of me for catching that. I went home feeling great and proud of myself. Now, I view the situation with discernment and come to quite a different conclusion

I remember an article on counterfeit coins and how to distinguish from real ones ! Its built into the metallurgy of the coin itself but you also need an electron microscope to prove it out !

I have suspected for many years that there are more fake '09 svdb's than there are genuine ones. Also, counterfeiters have gotten smarter. They used to make fakes of high-end coins in high-end conditions (1804 dollars, for example); but are now doing semi-key or even "common" dates in lesser grades, and they're getting harder to spot. This is devastating for both the hobbyist and professional. I am now skeptical of nearly everything, which is sad.

They still don't get them correctly, but they've been counterfeiting everything for a long time, there's people who track them and can ID when they were made.

@CoinHELPu Thanks for the reply. Interesting and informative as always. And I checked my single 14 D and I can feel comfortable assuming it is legit, thanks to this video.

Great information Daniel. But I know for me I wouldn't be able to tell if it was fake honestly. I would have to send it out for authentication.

It's not an angled diamond shape like a ball field, but pointed at the top and bottom, oval shape.

I know this is not the subject matter of this video, but I just read this article; Alongside these new security measures, the Federal Reserve plans to release updated designs for the $5, $20, $50, and $100 bills in the coming years. The updated $50 bill will debut in 2028, the $20 bill in 2030, the $5 bill between 2032 and 2035, and the $100 bill between 2034 and 2038.

Thanks Daniel. There are always diagnostics to look for on coins to authenticate them. Knowing that a 41D in the condition shown on Etsy doesn't sell for just 22bucks is also a warning. Research and know what you are buying.
