For those of us that have floaters due to myopia at a "young" age, YAG doesn't work. I've had the YAG surgery and it didn't get rid of my problem floaters due to floaters being close to the retina. It actually made my floaters worse. Also, the 20/20 vision is only accurate when my eyes aren't moving. Not out in the real world when your eyes are constantly in motion, like while driving, or working, or reading anything. My floaters blur out words and small details as well as making it harder for my eyes to focus on anything more than 10 feet away. Half the time I miss spots on my white car while trying to wash it outside. Floaters have changed everything about me. I can't tell you the last time I was genuinely happy about anything... It's a disease of the eyes and mind with zero relief 24/7 365.

Thank you for this comment -- I was saying similar things out loud to myself as I was watching this. I/we DON'T have 20/20 vision as far as floaters are concerned. The floaters blur out details on faces, blur out words on screens, trick you into seeing things that aren't there... they affect one's quality of life, and depression sets in when we realize we're powerless to do anything about them!
@DME04

@@turbo-yn7le You're welcome. People need to know EXACTLY what we are dealing with. Not what the eye doctors tell you when you are going in for an eye exam. Our eyes might look good to them, but to us, it's hell. There's no sugar coating that.

@@Alparslan821 If you wear eye glasses, try switching to contacts. There's something about eye glasses that makes floaters stand out more. Also, dirty lenses on your glasses are not a floater's best friend. I strictly wear contacts now. I also cut out drinks with sugar/high sodium content and that helped too. Side note: I highly recommend taking Ashwagandha. It will help take the edge off of any anxiety and stress the floaters are giving you. I take it daily in the morning in gummy form. Helps keep me level headed.
@DME04
@DME04 Жыл бұрын
@@Alparslan821 Eye glasses do not cause more floaters, they make them stand out more. They become more visible in my experience. Probably because of the distance between your eyeball and the eye glass. I don't know how else to explain it or how to explain it more clearly. It's almost like glasses will magnify the floaters... Make them appear bigger than they really are.

I’m 53 years old. Floaters have ruined my life for the past 20 plus years. I the past 5 years it has been so bad that I avoid reading, computer work , driving and simply spending time outside. Half of the time I see 20/20 but the other half of the time is 20/40 when a cluster of floaters crosses my vision. I had RK and cataract surgery in both eyes and a shunt in the right eye. I still take glaucoma drops in the left eye. Just had a floater only vitrectomy in the left eye 6 weeks ago. After that the pressure was out of control for 2 weeks. I had to take diamox and had my cornea tapped twice. Now the pressure is normal but my astigmatism changed probably due to taping the cornea. Just whent to see my optometrist and she was able to get me to see 20/20 - 2. But I noticed the vision was distorted a bit. Not sure why. Waiting to get my new lens. But I can already drive a lot easier. Floaters in my right eye are still bothersome but I’m hoping that my brain can eventually adapt. If the distorted vision in my left eye clears up, I would consider getting the right eye done in the future.

I have been complaining about floaters for years. However, I have to be honest and point out that the results of the survey you referenced almost certainly has more to do with the fact that average people are tremendously and famously terrible at interpreting statistical risks. When an average results in something as ghastly as people being willing to accept an 11% risk of death for what is not a life-saving surgery, that is a red flag that overconfidence bias dominates the results.

I cured my floaters 100 percentage using following way in 4 months --- Most important - 3 big slices of pineapple 2times a day for 2 month then 1 slice for 1 time to avoid any side effects of pineapple overeating -- 1. Drink lots of water 2. Drink 1 glass of water before sleep & in between sleep if you awake drink water 3. Sleep for 9+ hours 1/2 + hour afternoon & sleep without pillow 4. Keep eyes always hydrated (not dry) use water to wash eye (6/7 times a day) to hydrate 5. Fasting (no food) one day per week.. fruit+water allowed 6. Don't squeeze or use fingers or any eye related exercise.. just keep natural eye movement. Should not give any stress on eye.. also don't cough to avoid eye pressure 7. I’m 57 years of age. I only started having floaters around 4-5 years ago. And with time they have become more noticeable. And I have a few more than just 3. Like most people a white background or blue sky makes them noticeable but also with me a grey sky and a lightish grey background makes them noticeable as well. I’d love to read but sometimes the floaters just turn me off the idea. It’s black print on a white background. And it’s bad enough with Blepharitis sometimes but with the added floaters it just drives me crazy. The floaters don’t blur the letters or anything like that but they just drive me to distraction sometimes that’s all. Just wish I didn’t have the little buggers . But would I rather go blind ? You’ve got to be kidding me. Go blind? No Way. .......... Do you have to eat Pineapple or can you take Bromelian supplements? Cause at the moment I’m taking Bromelian capsules made by a company called Herbs of Gold. I started them a week ago after watching a KZbin Channel created by Dr Joseph J Allen. It’s his channel Doctor Eye Health. He didn’t recommend the supplements. He just talked about eating pineapple............⚛️☮️ 👀 🌏

I had about 25 YAG treatments in both of my eyes my floaters improved just a little bit, the only cure for floaters is surgery. The best way is to have a 27g surgery with combined cataract surgery and remove all anterior and posterior vitreous. just doing a core vitrectomy risks retinal detachment later or floater reoccurrance

When you have a surgical vitrectomy and the surgeon removes the vitreous gel from the center of the eye, do you inject a replacement to keep the eye from collapsing onto itself or does the body produce its own to replace what was removed? I just developed some floaters last week and they are annoying! I constantly feel like I have a lash stuck under a contact lens because that is what I see even though it doesn’t hurt that much. They do also make reading difficult because often as I focus the floater will block the word on the page or screen. Small type and music charts are particularly bothersome. I have committed to giving it some time to see if I can deal with them but I am guessing that at some point I would like to see if YAG laser will address the problem and save me from retiring before I would like to.

Visual acuity measured by the Snellen chart is misleading while checking the eyes of one with major floaters. People with large opacities -floaters/Weiss rings have lost a lot of the ability to see in a low contrast environment. As long as the world is in color then the high contrast test will not be a sufficient measurement. In my opinion!

I am currently recovering from vitrectomy surgery in both eyes at the same time. It's been 6 weeks and my gas bubbles are almost gone maybe 2 more weeks. I had cataract surgery in both eyes before this and don't know if it led to my detached retinas. I suffered from floaters since child. Lots of floaters. I went to a specialist when I was like 10 and he said it would be better just to live with them. I think he was right. I would never go through this surgery just to get rid of floaters. And I wouldn't give up years of my life to get rid of them like the survey you were talking about. I am now floater free because I don't have vitreous fluid in my eyes anymore. vitrectomy surgery is no joke and expensive and time consuming especially in both eyes like I had.

High blood pressure can cause blindness just as diabetes can too. And blindness can start GRADUALLY with floaters. SO, get your blood pressure down to like 115/70 or so, certainly no higher than 130/80, and avoid systolics less than 90 too.
