I've had a Mac in my shack since the 128K came out in 1984. At Present I have the 27" iMac and two Mac Mini's. I use QRZ which is a simple way to log but not as feature rich as Maclogger DX. 1 question Bob, What kind of chair are you sitting on. A good chair is a really important bit of gear.

Hi Bob, thank you for your comments about Macloggerdx. I've been running it for about 6 months now, just making sure it's the one for me. I am running a FTDX5000 and a FT2000D, having problems with the USB to serial ports, connect 1 all good, connect the other all good, connect both and can't switch between them, I'll give don a buzz 73's and keep making the videos they're awsome, I'm English living in france and I had a hard time saying Awsome lol

How about a Mac guru (maybe you) showing how the less heeled ham can get started with a used Mac, what works with that program, what level of memory needed, what would be the oldest less expensive Mac that would work. I have 4 Windows computers but am now retired (all are Windows 7 or older and need replacing) and would like to get my feet wet with a Mac without buying the latest one available at Best Buy or on line. Is a Mac too difficult to adjust to after using Windows since it first came out? Happy New Year and keep the good stuff coming. Dave K8WPE

David J. Wilcox Mac OS is actually easier to use than Windows and much more stable and you can get an older Mac that'll still run today's Mac OS for example I have a MacBook Pro that I bought in 2009 brand new from the Apple Store and I am still using it today with the latest Mac OS and it's still as fast as it was the first day I bought it and it runs all the pieces of software of even today people get scared of Mac but actually Mac is much easier to use than Windows and way more stable I recommend Mac and I also use Mac logger DX

Thanks. I’m trying my darndest to convert to Mac OS in the shack. Definitely want to use MacloggerDX. My concern is primarily all the hardware compatibility.

Only 6 away from 5000. Nice work. I tried MacLoggerDX for about a year along side of Aether. Eventually I stopped using MLDX. I just found it a lot more than I needed and a lot of manual were Aether does a lot automatically or at the touch of a button. Happy New Year!

Good job spotlighting the Mac. I use a Mac in the shack as well. I use RumLogNG which is free and has just about the same features as MacLoggerDX. It also has some extra support for Elecraft radios (which I don't have). If I was on the air more frequently, I would definitely go with MacLoggerDX...but I would say the gap between MacLoggerDX and RumLogNG are pretty narrow. MacLoggerDX does have a little more spit and polish. RumLogNG also plays nice with WSJTX/JTBridge and FLDigi. 73 and HNY - N3MBH.

Great show! Just found it when looking for MLDX-related stuff on KZbin. I agree totaly with you, MLDX is the best, by far! And paying $95 for this is NOTHING! In shacks around the world, equipment costs thousens, but you won't hear any complains about that cost. Don makes the best SW for any platform! I'll be damned if I stop paying for great SW! 73's from Norway!

Good video. Going back to the first home computers Commadore 64s and years of Windows computers I switched to Mac some years ago. Once Mac....never back! I was so tired of paying Bill Gates for updates that slowed down the computer and made it obsolete after 2 years. My go to computer everyday and the one I am using now is a 2011 MacBook Pro. No antivirus software to slow it down even more. An update on using some of the digital ham options, like hot spots with a Mac would be a great future episode.

Thanks for this! I have spent my life as IT guy working on Microsoft crap. No More!!! I did buy a recent Windows 10 machine as I am working on building out my first real ham station after doing my hamming in vehicles and in parks for the last 25 years. I have been working with FT8 and having a little fun. Doing it all on my Mac so far, but I don't have a good logging solution. My friends have been guiding me toward Logger32 on Windows. It's free and they say awesome, and while I don't doubt them I doubt my tolerance to putting up with Windows crap again! I will be looking closer at this logging solution and hopefully put it on the stuff to purchase short list.

I'm a Mac user (professional graphic designer), and I have fonts that cost more than $95. MacLogger DX is probably the least expensive piece of functional, useful software for the Mac in existence. For example, PhotoShop retails for around $250 these days. Just sayin'...

How are you interfacing your Mac to both your Icom radios? Separate CI-V to USB cables or a splitter with one CI-V cable?
@mikemcdonald51477 жыл бұрын
yeah his videos remind me of a pbs telethon for the first 20-30 mins. You have to fast forward to get to the actual content. Gary is supposed to be a professional video person yet his videos always look crappy and have audio issues and the transitions and editing suck. You would think a guy who does this for a living could do a better job. Gary does the ham stuff mainly for free but has other work on the side that pays the bills. I surely wouldn't use him. There are much more professional looking videos that aren't even so called pros.

$100 is nothing. The value for our money is a fantastic. Ham Radio Deluxe is about the same price. This Software is worth way more than $100. I refuse to run Windows. I hate it. With Windows, you spend more time trying to fix the computer than you do getting done what you need to do. Plus, no antivirus. I really do wish manufacturers would push Linux drivers and software. Linux Mint is awesome. I also wish that more software worked with WINE.
