I work with school kids. I often watch a child acting bad while the other kids encourage it. Then when I gotta reprimand the child who was misbehaving the other kids tell me they told the kid not to do it. But I watched what happened and I call them out on it and immediately the heads went down and they won't look me in the eye at that point. It's natural child behavior as far as I have learned. Sometimes it carries into adulthood.

Actually quite the opposite, and despite him being an asshole, Sobels character is one of the main reasons Easy Company was in top shape before shipping off to war. Despite everyone hating him, he was by the books, and to his credit helped them in many ways. He just wasn’t the right fit to lead them in battle, unlike Winters after he was promoted. Well written character though. This scene proves scenarios “outside” the book were not Sobels strength in combat scenarios.

Herbert Sobel was the company commander of Easy Company, 506th PIR, 101st Airborne. Sobel died in 1987 at age 75 - a staggering 17 years after shooting himself in the head in a botched suicide attempt. His wife and children likely didn't hold a memorial service. Sobel had some mental problems from his war experience and he was found to be bitter at life and at Easy Company. For an unknown reason, in the late 1960's, Sobel attempted suicide by shooting himself through his temple, but the shot only severed his optic nerves, blinding him for life.

@GreenEyedRogue
@GreenEyedRogue 2 ай бұрын
Pedantic and Effective are typically not found simultaneously in the same leader. You're either one or the other. Sobel, as portrayed by Schwimmer, clearly had an inferiority complex that manifested itself in his fixation on trivial things. A good combat leader is tactically proficient, flexible and decisive. Regarding his men he is empathetic to their suffering but not hindered by it, respectful of their abilities and thereby able to delegate with confidence. The good leader bonds himself to his team, not sets himself apart from it.

@yuritartid622 He dropped on D-Day and got a Bronze Star for destroying an MG nest. Dude was an asshole, but he wasn't as bad as the show made it seem, and he deserves respect for training Easy and fighting in 2 major wars with merits.
