Really love this video and this is something that is not talked about with drummers. Everyone else is concerned with the tuning more then the slight easy changes they can make when they already having a good tuning. Really practical and to the point. Keep up the great work!!

The info on snare wires adjustment was very helpful. I've been tweaking a 14 inch x4 maple piccolo and after I changed the snare wires , I did see a improvement in the sound but with the info you provided has given me a different perspective on getting better results. Oyea you have very good tutorial videos. Thanks for sharing ...!!

Good video. I am constantly tweeking my snare wires. Changing tension. Changing out different sets of snare wires. I agree with you on the Puresound . They seem to be the best I have tried so far. Thanks for the demo. And the tips . The snare drum is the voice of the kit it has to be just right

Great video, thank you. What is that on your snare head that is flapping around as you hit the snare?

Great video! What is the floppy pad on your snare head? I’m sure that has a big impact on the sound. Sorry if you already made a video explaining that.

I thought your point of likening snare tension to reverb was very enlightening.... I never thought of that but it makes sense. It makes me like my Trick 007 throw off even more..... can switch snare tension very quickly.

Interesting video. Could you do the same test with a tight top and very tight bottom head snare?

What is that "jumpy" dampener on your snare? Honestly, I couldn't tell the difference in the snare wires, in your opening comparison....

I have been using the PureSound 'double-wound' snares.. very unique.. vintage sounding.. They make my 13" Hip Pig sound like a larger drum.. By the way the PureSound 30 wire just didn't cut it due to the more extreme curvature of the bearing edge.. I look forward to your videos Stephen.. they are all both educational and enjoyable.

Have you had any issues with those quick release pins popping out mid-play? I have - had to change back to the old straps.

Is there much of a difference in sound between a standard 20 strand snare wire and a wider one?

I tend to keep them on the tight side, but not too tight!

Yeah, no noticable difference. The SP wires really sound horrible. I replaced my snares on my Ludwig Supraphonic with SP. and it sounded awful. I went back and got some quality 42 strain snares for it, and I have trouble not finding a sweet spot

If it sounds choked but theres still wires rattling, you can loosen the lugs between the strainer and butt end to make it sound even.. Check out Sounds Like a Drum on youtube

Ever hear of someone over tensioning the wires? Is it even possible to? Just curious.

The puresound snares are great..but the quick release pins r shite..use original ribbed straps!! Trust! also..imop..u dont need any more than 20 strand tops for a great sounding snare

I actually bought my own pins which are slightly bigger at the hardware store for like $1.50. Makes all the difference. Maybe they should have been made bigger in the first place, but I have no complaints now.
