From what I can tell, the park had some of the lower attendance numbers in the Cedar Fair chain. And since its not only in the middle of Silicon Valley, but literally right next to Levi Stadium, the land is worth over twice as much as Astroworld's land was (adjusted for inflation). Its always sad to see a park shut down (I would be devastated if this was my home park), but there is at least a plausible explanation for it. And if it helps Cedar Fair with their debt, it will beneficial to the other parks in the chain. For those wondering about Michigan's Adventure, the land in Santa Clara is worth a lot more than the land in the outskirts of Muskegon, Michigan. Also, Michigan's Adventure is essential to the local economy. Compared to Santa Clara and the Bay Area, there aren't really any major destinations in Muskegon. And don't worry about Knott's. They have been around for a lot longer than CGA and have survived this long with Disneyland down the street.

"Disney moves the competition, not the other way around." If this was 20 years ago I'd agree. Universal caught Disney sleeping big time when they built Hogsmeade in 2010. They went from 6 million guests at IOA in 2009 to 8 million in its opening year and that attendance increase only got bigger with the opening of Diagon Ally just a few short years later. That's when you saw Disney finally counter and build Pandora and Galaxy's Edge. With Universal currently setting insane record numbers and the way Disney has been cheapening their experience and canceling numerous previously announced additions, the opening of Epic Universe is going to be a major wake up call for them if they keep down this path. Bob Chapek has shown a lack of interest in investing in the parks and focusing on services like Disney+. With him just announced continuing as CEO for the next 3 years the near future is not looking bright for their parks.

100% agree. Disney is chasing Universal now. Disney may not think so but they are. Hogsmeade changed everything, and I believe that Velocicoaster and Hagrids have the potential to do the same due to the insanely positive feedback. I mean WDW's newest rides are either really similar to a Universal ride (Guardians coaster looks a lot like Gringotts to me), is a cloned attraction (Tron) or a reskin (Mission Breakout or Princess and the Frog log flume), or is not very good (Runaway Railway). Right now, Disney is not being very consumer-friendly; everyone hates the reservation system yet the rumor is they will expand it and the Genie +/Lightning Lane system is also hated. But we'll see how Epic Universe turns out. Super Mario World looks great in Japan, but I heard Mario Kart isn't that good, but they might be able to perfect it by the time it hits the states (but at least they tried something new so hats off for trying).
@MyNameIsEarl422 жыл бұрын
the more crowded disney gets, the more they can charge. they'll build hotels way before parks. each of the florida properties have room to expand, but they almost always replace anyway. Universal absolutely caught them drifting on momentum, and we can only hope that epic universe causes a 5th dry gate at disney orlando. but with chapek still at the wheel, "um, how about charging for standing space? can we charge them for air?"
@ninjagirl2262 жыл бұрын
@@MyNameIsEarl42 It's a struggle to get Disney to make a new ride even though they have the room and need the added capacity. Look at Epcot there are several expansion pads in the world showcase, and you have the abandoned pavilion (that may or may not become the play pavilion we don't know if it will happen anymore). Instead, they close the Universe of Energy and put in Guardians and ax the Mary Poppins expansion. But what do I know? Disney is making profit, so they probably don't see a need to do anything until Universal makes a major move that threatens their profit line.

Disney's theme parks are currently sitting duck's. Yes, they are unique but Universal and Knotts have both competed successfully for years with universal really pushing Disney for the last decade. The closure of CGA is a huge loss for the Bay Area. There will never be another large park with easy access for South Bay residents. That's a half sell, most of the coasters there are 30+ years old and reaching the end of their service life. Unless a thorough inspection can guarantee about 10 more years of service life, they would probably scrap them. Older rides usually only get refurbished if it's cost efficient, and the GP demand the ride be saved.

Cga is zoned a fairgrounds/amusement park and the previous deals fell through since Santa Clare said they will never rezone it. So long as that stays the case I don't see the park going anywhere. Prologis is investing malls and live work space. It would not surprise me if it becomes a boardwalk style park with a few rides and lots of shopping/dinning

I just went to Kentucky Kingdom for the first time (with sadly a bad back) in early June. I was shocked to see how long the line was for T3. GP folks really seem to still like it. I rode it once and it didn't kill my back completely (Steel Vengeance and Magnum XL200 did that a few days prior). But even with the newer trains it was still really uncomfortable. I'm not so sure Hershend will want to remove T3 given it's still pretty popular. A shame, I know. Also, I was surprised how smooth and fun Kentucky Flier was! For a small family coaster it really had some decent forces on it.

It is absolutely savable. The park has been saved before by the city and can be saved again. The zoning would have to be changed to do anything with the park and the city WILL not let them do this. Prologis would likely sell the land as it useless to them to a prospecting amusement company, such as six flags, busch, merlin, SeaWorld or anyone that wants to get it. I have a lot of hope

SFDK doesn't have much land left. The only ride I can see going there (assuming Kong / Boomerang don't get scrapped) is Railblazer, but that's definitely getting relocated inside the Cedar Fair chain.

@@NightDragon01 I actually think they'll have more land coming available fairly soon. They're getting rid of a lot of the animal exhibits. I mean, no more elephants alone frees up quite a bit of land. But yeah, unfortunately you're probably right on rail blazer

If Fuji Q closes Do-DoDonpa, that’s gonna take lots away from their attendance. Fuji Q is my home park, and the lines have been at their all time low, which could be the result of Do-Dodonpa being closed. Also Do-dodonpa is insanely reliable, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen it break down, and it can run in the rain.

It seems like dedicated waterparks where one might have once had a coaster park are the wave of the future, as much as I hate that. They're cheaper and the demand is obviously huge (I think this has risen partly as a consequence of global warming).
