I went through a phase of full on climate activism (arrested), constantly tuned into the news via radio, tv and internet, outraged every day, living an informed but anxious and desperately sad state of mind; it was exhausting and mentally and emotionally depleting. I rarely tune into the news now, no longer an active activist and instead prefer to look after my own little patch of heaven and my own family and myself. If everyone in the world tended fully and intentionally to their own little patch and the wellbeing of their own family and did some volunteering in their own community it would be a wonderful world. Instead of the disruptive activism that impacts most on ordinary people trying to earn a crust, it is in my eyes far more productive to get involved in a local community initiative such as repair cafes, community gardens and orchards, community fridges to address food waste and food poverty at the same time, community wardrobes addressing clothing waste and clothing poverty, local food initiatives and so on, I'm sure there are many others too. Avoiding the mainstream news as much as possible and getting out in nature does wonders for mental health!

It's been said, if lawns were turned into native plots, the world would become healthier instantly. We're talking millions of acres turned back into supporting the planet rather than ruining her. But try to get my locals to give up their mono-crop non-native shortly chopped grass? Over their dead bodies they'd say. They think I'm nuts. If this is being nuts, bring it on. ; )

@@donnavorce8856 I just wish they would stop using weed killer. If a poor weed even appears through their concrete garden space they bring out the weed killer, sometimes once a week. How do the bees survive when people stop having gardens and this continual use of weed killer.

@@donnavorce8856 I'm in a row of four semi det. small gardens, two of them are mostly paved just with a few flower beds, it's really sad. I have three trees, one large laurel and as many plants and shrubs as I can squeeze in including herbs and vegetable plants and a pond for wildlife with very noisy frogs. I've got nesting boxes for birds and bats, today I've been watching a few ground nesting bees that have taken up residence. I get several different species of dragonflies during the summer months along with many other bugs. The frogs and toads help keep the slugs and snails to a minimum. It really is a small plot, no space for a greenhouse sadly but it's so pretty and such a lovely place to relax in.

@Tiggy Winkle your comment really speaks to me. I continue to be an activist to governments and authorities but with increasingly less conviction that it’s helping. Our (U.K.) government just ignores protests etc and it feels as if we are having such an insignificant effect. I also am directing most of my energy at the piece of ground that I am currently guardian of and am experiencing delight at seeing an increase in the insects and birds - and mammals too - and that is giving me the mental nourishment I need. I will still be an activist though, as I want to feel like I have done everything I can to bring about positive change. However my activism is now evolving to be directed in a positive way via social media, for instance showing the wonderful results of no mow may, or how to build a dead hedge. Much more satisfying and, quite possibly, more effective! Happy naturing to you 💚

We humans are a stubborn lot. Sometimes it takes a great deal of repetition before we get the message. Colette, the message you have to offer is sorely needed, a drink of cool, pure water on a scorching summer day. We who are already listening appreciate it so much, but others need to hear it, too. Sooner or later, Mother Earth will speak to us all in a very loud voice indeed, one that can no longer be ignored. Her voice is growing in volume all the time, but she speaks in a language that, while inexorable, is too foreign and remote to most modern ears that no longer retain the capacity to listen to the natural world. That's why She needs and why we need voices like yours. Thank you.

Another Canadian here, and I have been closely watching the news regarding these fires too. I hope you are well, and that you are able to stay safe. Glad for the rain. We here on the prairies have not had too much issue regarding smoke so far, but the season is early. Things could change in a flash. It was so distressing to hear that some of the fires in NS were from people being careless despite warnings about the risks. And now, so many will suffer. It is disheartening to see that there are so many who STILL also believe that Climate Change is not real, a hoax, made up by politicians/leaders to generate 'green money/profits' and to control consumers...I shake my head and cry when I hear that some honestly believe this and go about their lives completely detached from nature....

OH MY GOSH! Could I just go on and on about your videos!!! They just bring me SO MUCH PEACE, even when you're talking about the horrible things in the world, in contrast, you're walking through the most beautiful place!!!! You are absolutely correct about how despicable the earth has been treated. And then there is the little piece of earth that you have rejuvenated! I just can not get enough!!! If I could get there I would visit in a second! BECAUSE OF YOU, I did pull a couple little pieces of ornamental grass and a piece of a bush from around my condo, and put them in water. The grass already has roots, but the bush does not. I'm hoping I can get it to grow some roots and I will plant them in a "gravel garden" that I have next to my sidewalk! I live in Colorado, so I don't think I'll be able to create such a lush garden as yours, but I'm hoping to get it as full and green as I can by just snipping the native plants we have around and do the best I can! I wish I could show you what I'm working with...maybe some day. We have however, had an enormous amount of rain here this year. (hmmm, I wonder why the weather has changed so...) Every afternoon, we get huge thunderstorms, so it's been really nice to open all the windows and doors and listen to that beautiful music!! I AM SO GRATEFUL TO YOU for sharing all of your hard work! It is a joy to watch, and dream of having. It's only been 12 hours since you last posted and I'm already eagerly waiting the next video! :D THANK YOU SO MUCH for being such an advocate for life. I really appreciate that YOU'VE INSPIRED ME to plant what I can and recover what might have been, if not for the gravel they've dumped here. I can't wait to just have a wild, and freely growing native garden to overtake the gravel they call "landscaping"! All it does is halt ANYTHING from growing!! Oh how I intend to fix that!!! Have a wonderful day, and enjoy that rain your expecting later!!! Much love, Kelly

Imagine how the world would be if every one of us did everything we possibly could just for the land that is under our own feet every day, where we live, and in the public spaces. Your videos with their soundtracks of birds and bees show what is possible!! Those in charge of Canada's forests, which I understand are burning out of control in part because of their lack of natural diversity, could have learned better from you!! Your remark about the helpfulness of stones gave me yet another idea for my garden, suddenly dry after months of being boggy. Bless you Colette, and the unofficial but no less potent movement you champion!!

Some of the fires in Canada have been from lightening strikes, drought, and sadly, man-made carelessness. I'm not sure what you mean by 'lack of natural diversity'? Do you mean single type planting? Many of the fires now, and in the past have been due to drought as a direct result of Climate Change. Dry, dry, dry forests and on occasion, idiots who take their ATV out sparking fires that rage for months. Flicking lit cigarette butts out their windows in bone dry conditions. What we need to focus on is climate change and reducing air pollution globally. Educate. And in some instances, yes, restrict. There are so many people out there who don't give a toss except for their own pleasure, so restricting access and excess, placing huge fines.....There are many people with more money that brains... We all need to be on the same page...and even though I recycle and reuse, drastically try to reduce my car use...I often think what good am I doing when countries are spewing millions of litres of pollution into the air and the oceans? Sigh.

We were blanketed in the ash from the northeastern wildfires last week. I’ve got the bronchitis flare up sadly to prove how thick it was where we live in Ontario.😢. All I could think…those poor folks who didn’t see it coming, they have lost their homes and livelihoods. Their forests full of life gone. The ash from their losses falling on our heads. Politicians are perfect at saying the wrong things. Conservatives especially don’t believe in climate change even when it sits on the doorstep waving a flag. It’s just weather they say. If people would stop being careless with campfires and cigarette butts…um…they are kind of missing the point of what scientists have been warning about for decades now!!! Oh Colette! I say what I say over and over again for the new ears and the young ears truly hearing for the first time. But then I'm a born optimist. It's hard for me not to hope. I celebrate the rain with you, and hope we get some soon in Pennsylvania.

We have just lived through a week of bad air because of the wild fires all across Canada. The sky was yellow. Hopefully it will rain today and that will help. What you are talking about is very real. We live on a small farm on the shore of Lake Ontario. Every tree and plant, we planted ourselves. The farm was abandoned when we bought it in 1985,

I am always thankful when it rains; considering what many other people in the world are suffering without enough water. I have a rain barrel which I love; I'll be putting more in this Spring/Summer. I take pleasure in the small things. We have to.

Your videos make my day Colette and I say that with sincerity. Whether you rant, take us for a walk or a drive, cook something in your kitchen or just share your thoughts, chat. I think of you as a friend i wish i had close by. A like minded person. Someone who inspires me, makes me laugh, nod in agreement. I love when I see you have posted a vdeo. Solace in a mad, violent, angry world. Blessings to you and yours Colette. ❤

Earth Day should be every day. This is our home, and it must be cared for. I love your podcasts Colette, the beauty and bird song gives me a lift every time I watch. My own garden is resting in our winter here in the Southern hemisphere. The Camilla's are flowering, and spring bulbs are poking through the earth. Mother Earth's cycles are truly magical.

Hello Colette, I feel your frustration also, but that being said- I hope you continue speaking out. Please do as you have a gift in speaking truth- even when you rant. To know there is someone out there that cares enough and has the ability to verbalize the situation we see without being political and overly shall I say flamboyant, who speaks truth intelligently, factually is a blessing. You live what you teach and that inspires, encourages and soothes the soul of your viewers. Keep your light shining bright!! We need you, Mother Earth needs you. Even if each of us only make little changes do to your encouragement, a little in abundance is a lot!! Keeping seeing the beauty, keep speaking your truth. Thanks and prayers❤

Hello Colette, interesting video, thank you.its a mixed up state of affairs for sure, I don't buy newspapers, or log into any social media , tv bulletins, not because I prefer to remain ignorant, because I prefer to stay in the state of mindfulness focus on what I can change what I can do or help someone have a positive day, there are still people in the communities who are forgotten or ignored, people trying to make sense of the past three years.sitting quietly in the shade listening to Goddess Gaia's rhythm, the birds chasing each other bees humming instead of car engines humming in the busy traffic lanes never ending 24 hours a day.times are changing for sure we don't have to go along with it, do we. Hugs and Blessings to you . 💚🌹

Madness is a word that comes to my mind frequently as I contemplate the state of the world these days. I have no doubt that Mother Nature will do as she will when she's had enough of human infringement.

In America the vast majority of politicians in D.C. are millionaires so I imagine they understand very little of what its like to be a person on this Earth. Just sharing your piece and peace is so very helpful. Feeling connected keeps me going. Best to you, all ways.

I hear you!❤️ When the word "social" begins to be defined as Mother Earth defines it, the whole world will become healthy. Those of us who are nature lovers, are often seen as anti-social. However, we are the exact opposite, we just do not limit our love, respect, and interactions to the human species. Our hearts are open to all living creatures on Mother Earth. This kind of social networking, and awareness, if taken seriously by more human beings, would change the whole world! Thank you for continuing to speak! We have to keep the faith for change, for ourselves, and Mother Earth!

Well said Collette and please keep on saying it with your videos. Your videos are encouraging and inspirational to help me to keep on going because the governments and greedy corporations are not going to do anything for Mother Earth except make empty promises for votes and exploit our hard earn cash. Your continuing to make videos also help new ones awakening ( and in my country certain ones have degraded the word “woke” but I say better awake than asleep at the wheel) You and those as Terri Conroy (who I learned about through your videos) have encouraged me to do my bit part where I live and I imagine so many more all around this earth are also been inspired to plant trees and tend this earth and that is how we will heal this earth, not that Mother needs us but I think she wants us to want to do what we can wholeheartedly. That is what I learned from you. As I watch and learn from your books and videos I feel like I am connected with many likeminded ones, I feel like I found my tribe. Thank you for sharing your life’s work and please continue to share , you have much more to say. I have been blessed by your words and indeed grateful and send you much blessings in return ❤

What I heard in your voice, Colette, took me through all those emotions: anger, despair, more anger, sadness, disgust, and perhaps some emotions I didn't catch. My dear, you are not alone! However, you are SO blessed to stand on those 3 acres - you have worked SO hard to have what you've got. Your achievement is huge! Just be, dear Colette, just be.
