Good work eliminating your gremlins!!I am watching you very carefully,as I am a proud owner of an E34 (a humble 518i one) myself.I bought it neglected,got lots of mechanical and body issues sorted out (semi-expensive fixings here and there),and up to this day runs and rides like a dream.I love your videos,I find them educational and fun to watch.I appreciate your effort and the time you spent to post them.Be sure,once this project is over,you're gonna feel like a million bucks,just looking at it!Keep up the good work!

Nothing 'humble' about the 518i, it's quite a torquey motor that hustles along respectably, smooth and nicely balanced with cavernous engine bay access. Respect for giving it a new lease of life with a worthy owner.😎👍

Greatings from South Africa. I stumbled onto your channel the other day and have watched all your videos with interest as the e34 is one of my favourite BMWs. I myself own a 1995 525i Manual with Mtech suspension and a LS diff as options. I worked at a BMW dealer for 24 years first on the bench as a BMW technician from apprentice till master tech and later as the workshop manager. Just a little advice the red fuse you located in the E Box is actually for the secondary air pump which helps with emissions. So the blown fuse has nothing to do with the E Box fan. As you have discovered the temperature sensor in the box was faulty and would cause excessive temps inside the E Box. If you you continue to have problems with the starter not turning over when hot it is most likely heat soak on the starter which is common on the M50 and M60 engines. The remedy is to replace the starter unfortunately. The fault you are getting relating to mixture control is most likely crank ventilation valve being faulty and leaking internally. It sits on the back of the intake manifold. I would suggest removing the manifold and replacing the crank vent system and while you are there just make sure the water pipes running between the cylinder heads are not leaking at the back. It's common for it to leak after the water pump replacement. The window guide rails are also a common failure point and we usually use Sika Tack Go to re bond the glass to the track. This allows some movement between the track and the glass, epoxy is too ridged and might cause the glass to shatter. Please let me know if you need any additional help or advice. My dream toy is a e34 M5 S38B38 but was never available in SA only the B36

Thanks Justin!! You sound like an e34 Yoda! Good to know on the fuse, starter and the crank ventilation valve! I hear a bit of a whine when accelerating hard under load, and Ive changed all pulleys and water pump - could it be the alternator or bearing in alternator? Is the alternator bearing replaceable or does whole thing need to be rebuilt?
@justinlawrence45622 жыл бұрын
@@DeadEndRestorations is the whining noise directly related to the engine speed? I very much doubt it would be related to the alternator or related to the belts and pullies as they are not effected by load only engine speed. If they were noisy they would be noisy under all conditions related to under load partial load or free reving. The only time a alternator will change in audible noise will be change in electrical load.
@justinlawrence45622 жыл бұрын
@@DeadEndRestorations an alternator can be rebuilt it all depends on availability of parts. It may not be economical to repair though.

@@DeadEndRestorations are you able to record the noise it makes with a good microphone 🎤?
@DeadEndRestorations2 жыл бұрын
Im gonna record the noise, it could be a grounding issue but Ive checked all those points and they seemed well secured. Ill try to take a good clip in the next week or two and post it

Hey brother - Remove the drivers door panel and lock, it might be a loose wire or you need a new drivers lock mechanism. I’ve never had this issue to be honest so not 100% sure - good luck!

Hello! Would you have hints on where the 2nd fusible link might be, one is in a small black plastic house under the rear seat but the other one? Thank you anyway
@DeadEndRestorations Жыл бұрын
Hi! Depends on year and model but usually under the hood near the windshield by the strut towers there is a fuse box in each corner. Hope that helps!

I think rear window tracks should glue back with windshield sealant thats keeps it in place trust me :D
