I've been watching your videos for about 4 years. You have renewed my love of gardening. I lost my husband to cancer almost 5 years ago and gardening was something we enjoyed doing together. Bethany’s horses are your best introduction. You need to volunteer at her place to learn all that is involved. They are a large beautiful animal, but very delicate. I love that you are doing research before diving in cause they are a huge commitment that can turn a large fortune into a small one really quick!

I had ponies and then horses and I wouldn't call them delicate. Good food, water, fences and vets as needed..maybe we were lucky but we never even needed a vet. We didn't shoe them and they all had very tough feet.

Many people have visions of looking out a window and seeing horses galloping through a pasture, but don't consider the effort it takes to keep that vision alive, flies, manure, toxic plants, cleaning stalls, etc. Having horses is a lot of work, I'm glad that you aren't jumping into something without doing tons of research. Horses are a beautiful animal and once you have it figured out you will love it.

I agree. I worked, trained, jumped, was trained in dressage in my younger years. Horses are ALOT of work. I think the best way to learn about horses is to actually have to take care of them for a decent amount of time. That means actually working on a ranch or a farm that has horses. They are great animals but not easy to deal with every day. You don't get sick days when you have horses. Also, very expensive, lol.

Yep. I grew up on a farm and our family had motorcycles, my first was a 125 Honda at age 8. Dad said as long as we kept the oil changed, they didn’t have to be watered, fed and ridden every day and sure didn’t need a $$ large animal vet to come out! 😂

OH MY Gosh , so true!!!! I've had horses and currently own one....Fun to romanticize about ir, the lifestyle , and the status of having horses.... then there's the mobile vet bills just for a well -check up, vaccinations, worming, and even more when they get injured or ill.... 10 x or more than an urgent care human appt.You need to be in it for the long run bc they live a long time! if you care for them properly. That means feeding them a special diet once the teeth get worn down as they get older.... Laura- consider getting alpacas if you really want to get that pasture mown and not have your pasture damaged! So much less work , and you can use the fiber! I love your enthusiasm, but I see the writing on the wall... your sanity is at risk here! I just want to say that I am a fan of you channel, but take from all who've posted here..... horses are a full time commitment.

Aaron is so right about the loyal fans on KZbin. I stumbled upon Laura's video by accident when she only had about 20k subscribers to today's success. I strongly feel that Laura, her family, and her spectacular garden are already part of my life. Laura is right about consistency pushing out videos, and it only takes 21 days to form a habit, right? After watching her grow with her family and garden, it's already been a routine for me to click the like button first before I start to watch the video every morning. I'm sure a lot of you also agree that we get withdrawal when there are days without her videos, not that we don't want her to rest or take a break at all, it's just that we miss her. It's so much better than watching soap opera, but I've been doing that for so many years. Thank you Laura and Aaron for filling my days with gardening and joy.

So true.horses always keep us occupied for sure lol we have 2 3year old quarter horses and a 25 year old Palamino.They are alot of work,but for hundreds of years women have gardened,raised kids, and husbands lol, kept the house and more and we are all tuff stock when it’s something we want.We always can find a way.Whatever Laura and Arron decide to do is none of our business,pretty sure they know what’s in store and the challenges.

I’m so happy to hear you are slowing down with the horse idea and building a new barn and area for them. Your current plans as described sound wonderful! My horses lived/live in a partially wooded area and have for almost 40 years. They do graze and munch throughout the day no matter their hunger level, that is how they metabolize-I know there are science-y reasons but I’m not an animal scientist😊. When it’s cold they need hay almost constantly as that is how their bodies stay warm, so in short, their instincts are to constantly be grazing. They will eat bark killing trees, eat leaves, etc. we even had one horse that ate stinging nettles all the time so it’s a good idea not to rely on their animal instincts to know what not to eat😂. Ours have had oak trees and I don’t know that they eat the acorns, if they have it hasn’t been an issue and all of our horses live at least to their late 20s even to late 30s. They do enjoy the shade in the summer and use the trees as a windbreak in the winter (Minnesota) so having trees around is helpful along with shelter for these same reasons. I’m glad you’re being so thoughtful with the process. There is so, so much to know. Please keep sharing your ideas and us horse people can keep commenting on your ideas along with the helpers you have in your area. Good luck with the process-horses are so, so worth it!

My dogs eat stinging nettle. I found out recently that it is a super food, full if nutrients. In the spring you can pick the new leaves and not be ‘stung’ ( I don’t intend to test that fact) and you can cook the leaves at anytime and eat them and the sting will be gone.

One of the things I wish we did is made sure the pasture was mature with tough grasses and clover, dandelion. Those hooves tear up pasture fast. I won't get a throughbred either. They are bred to mature faster. Everyone that I knew who owned one had more expensive vet bills. That's what I remember anyway. We owned the most beautiful sweet quarter horse.

One reason Russell may be hungry all the time is if he has intestinal worms. This is common in outdoor cats that feed on mice and birds. The cat has an extended abdomen due to the load of worms in the gut. The worms feed themselves and Russell only gets what is left. Hence, his body says he needs more nutrition even though he is consuming a lot of food. I'd suggest taking him to the vet so he can get de-wormed as needed. He will likely need more than one treatment.

I agree, all out door animals (one stomach) need to be wormed regularly. Adding diatomaceous earth to their diet will naturally ride animals of these problems.😉

A lot of pet owners feed their cats dry food. Dry cat food is like crack cocaine for cats. It doesn’t help cats and causes health problems down the life of cat. Dry food has a lot of preservatives. As cats age they need better quality of food. Cats eat more than twice a day Laura. Plus, they need water available at all times. I would highly suggest having a complete blood work panel run on Russell. That would help Russell tremendously on deciding if he has any health issues. Sometimes Aaron and Laura, you have to do your own research on cats. I hope this helps you.

Laura worked in a veterinary clinic for several years. I think she knows all of that. She recently mentioned that all 3 cats get regular topical treatment that's for both external and internal parasites.

Get you a good vet, farrier and equine chiropractor for your horses and be ready to work 365 days owning horses. They’re not for the faint of heart. They require ALOT OF WORK. EQUIPMENT IS EXPENSIVE AND FEED AND HAY IS ALSO.

My sister-in-law always had horses and they were her lifestyle (time,social, activities). Your lifestyle has mostly revolved around gardening and plants. I thought your Mom had a horse or two but horses did not dominate your lives. The people I know that have horses that are not “lifestyle” owners have others who either live on the property or come in every day to do all of the routine care and exercise. The owners then rode them as their schedules permitted. Maybe the ideal is “renting” a horse barn & pasture to a horse owner and working out an arrangement where you can ride them if you don’t have employees to be their primary caregivers/trainers. My SIL also boarded and trained horses owned by others. How are you planning to incorporate horses into you lifestyle?

Husband created me an eternity ring from his mom’s ring-it is so beautiful, and I never take it off. You need to keep food down at all times. Cats are eating sporadically when they feel hungry. They are not on a schedule like dogs. They snack. They will eat a few kibbles and go their way. They will never get fat as yours they are indoor-outdoor cats. I had hundreds of cats in my life and always keep food at their disposal. Like chickens. Only dogs need to be on a feeding schedule as they will eat till they throw up. Dogs I feed twice a day. Try that. You will see a different behavior.

I think city folk don’t understand that animals are more resilient than one would think. They have survived millions of years without the things we think they need to survive. Do I take care of my animals, yes I do, I provide them with food and shelter, do I heat their barns no I don’t. As long as they have a reasonable shelter they are fine. Sheep you leave the wool on them for winter, many things molt, they are preparing for winter, getting their winter coats on. I was just watching a squirrel out and about on our deck, it’s 13 degrees out with a real feel of minus 4 degrees his face was plastered with snow and he had a walnut in his mouth and he was absolutely fine . I don’t abuse my animals, but growing up on a farm you learn that animals are tougher than you think. 🥶❄️🌲💚🙃

I started watching YT gardening channels because I wanted to learn landscaping and gardening. It’s not personal to the other channels, but they only supplied information and not anything I was interested in beyond getting the facts. This channel is completely different. Glad you're on the mend, a nurse friend told me back in nov. 2022 to take garlic tabs 1000mg so I have been taking them and although my teenagers and hubby have gotten sick I have not. My co-worker has been sick 3 times since Thanksgiving and I have remained healthy. Praise the Lord. Think about getting yourself some. I remember the days when my 3 kiddos were toddlers and I would get sick along with them. If it works for me it will help anyone 😊

One day I was shoveling snow and noticed my wedding band was missing. It's a very cheap band but holds memories thought it's gone forever. During the spring I was looking out my picture window and the light at dusk hit my wedding band in the grass. I was light what is that shinny object. Went outside it was my ring. Laura, I feel your style is definitely Traditional with a touch of Dark Academia. New name for what’s been around for a long time. Rich library style. Dark moody walls, and beautiful woods. I love it. Comes and goes with new trends but it somehow finds its way back at one point or another. I got into white walls, gray furnishings like the Farmhouse style a few years ago, but quickly felt the need to bring in my dark woods and add a richer color to the walls. Still like light colors but love the contrast of the dark as well. Truly fun to meld some styles together and experiment!

I follow your channel because, first love the content, you don’t do the trendy stuff everyone else is doing, you do you! Second You are so down to earth and impart so much value and knowledge in gardening. I had ponies when I was young, in Ireland. The fun we had throughout our youth, going to pony club events, show jumping etc. I get that you love the aesthetics, but for the kids, you want bulletproof ponies that they can ride, jump with, and have fun.

Thinking about the question regarding starting a KZbin channel...what attracts me to a channel and keeps me coming back has a lot to do with the presenters voice tone, natural communication style, and flow. There are several garden channels that have content I love, but I can't tolerate the voice tone or style. Watching Garden Answer is like hanging in the garden with a good friend...comfortable, encouraging, and informative. A daily delight!

I have been an avid gardener for 30 yrs and LOVE your youtube videos. I would consider myself one of your loyal viewers and I can attest to that having called your parents' nursery last week and spoken with your father about purchasing a lemon tree living in the mountains of Arizona (Flagstaff). And...when I purchase from PW as I did on "Green Garden Day", I always mention you as the one who recommended a certain plant/flower variety. Glad you and the kiddos are feeling better. 27:35 re draining the water, why not just tilt the tray a bit and use that syringe to suck what remains back up or is there to much water left for that to be efficient?

Just a quick comment about feeding cats, they are grazers, all day and night. If you're feeding them wet food, that can be once or twice a day, but always have dry kibble out for them at all times. Cats that are mostly outdoor cats, won't over feed themselves. But they need the energy from food all day and night. So having some dry available is the best way to make sure they can eat when they need to. Hope this helps!

I am in Central OR, yesterday was awful, we got a foot of snow, on top of a foot, our low yesterday (Sat 1/13) was 0.0, our high was 5.1, woke up this morning it was 6, hopefully you will not have such extremes...stay warm!!!

Spanish, Mediterranean, Moroccan, French Provencal, bohemian, old world, Scandinavian, English countryside. I would say to the person wanting to make KZbin Videos, consistently is 💯 key! I have my mainstay channels and it’s because they are consistent. I also watch them all for different reasons but some of their content does overlap and I get bits and pieces from each because each channel has its own personality and way they share info. I hope you go for your goals and have much success. Hoping we’ll find you someday soon on YT.

Re: bottom watering. Have you never used wicking mats? I’ve had great success bottom watering my seedlings in trays inside without the need to drain excess.

Glad Samantha and yourself are feeling better! For watering the succulents, my mom and I have been using the plastic squeeze wash bottles (bought on amazon, you can have different sizes but i use the 500ml), and they work great!!! They are super easy to use! I keep two of them so i always have one close to water! I also use them to water my seedlings when they are smaller! I really recommend them to try! :)

Laughing about sledding with the cow! That's a new one for me. Brings back great memories of sledding at the Michigan State Police Post. Freezing as we walked back home after hours of sledding. I'm 72 and now live in Florida. 😂
