He may not say it “directly” but the prayers through John 17 is a great example of Jesus’s divinity.

I think it is significant that it seems someone as secular as Ehrman begins with the premise that the Gospel of John overtly and repeatedly claims the divinity of Jesus! This is not always where readers of John begin.

Psalm 8:2 Out of the mouth of babies and infants, you have established strength because of your foes, to still the enemy and the avenger. 1 Corinthians 1:27 God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; Psalm 84:5 Blessed are those whose strength is in you, in whose heart are the highways to Zion. Zechariah 10:12 I will make them strong in the Lord, and they shall walk in his name, declares the Lord. Isaiah 45:24 Only in the Lord, it shall be said of me, are righteousness and strength; to him shall come and be ashamed all who were incensed against him. Psalm 68:34 Ascribe power to God, whose majesty is over Israel, and whose power is in the skies. Psalm 97:1 The Lord reigns, let the earth rejoice; let the many coastlands be glad! Psalm 93:1 The Lord reigns; he is robed in majesty; the Lord is robed; he has put on strength as his belt. Yes, the world is established; it shall never be moved. Psalm 103:19 The Lord has established his throne in the heavens, and his kingdom rules over all. Psalm 47:2 For the Lord, the Most High, is to be feared, a great king over all the earth. Daniel 7:13-14 I saw in the night visions, and behold, with the clouds of heaven there came one like a son of man, and he came to the Ancient of Days and was presented before him. And to him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him; his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom one that shall not be destroyed. Revelation 11:15 Then the seventh angel blew his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, saying, The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he shall reign forever and ever. Zechariah 14:9 And the Lord will be king over all the earth. On that day the Lord will be one and his name one. Zephaniah 3:9 At that time I will change the speech of the peoples to a pure speech, that all of them may call upon the name of the Lord and serve him with one accord. Psalm 22:27 All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn to the Lord, and all the families of the nations shall worship before you. Psalm 86:9 All the nations you have made shall come and worship before you, O Lord, and shall glorify your name.

Two issues I have here. The first is relatively minor but you keep reading "AD 60" as "60 AD." Why not read it as written then question why would they write it backwards to how you are thinking it should be? The other more major issues is you looked at early books of the bible which is fine. But the question was not why do early christian believe Christ was divine, but was someone saying he does not think Jesus ever said he was divine. You clearly pointed out that Paul said he was Divine but not that Christ said it. Your look at Colossians is one point you can use, but I think there are much better evidence in the Gospels that Chirst said, and heavily implied he was divine. Like when he does not question when people worship him, and how he referred to himself as "I Am" and the Jewish leaders wanted to kill him because of his "blasphemy" of often putting himself equal to God. I think these all show Christ stating his divinity which is probably better support for your position than what Paul said in an early church book. At least in the way the guy you showed at the start framed his objection to the divinity of Christ. I would have liked to see you pull more from Christ's words, that Paul was expanding on in Colossians. It's a stronger argument than just using the Colossians passages.

Please can someone explain Mark 10:18
@colmortimer106627 күн бұрын
@@antyeb I am no where near qualified to give a proper answer here but I will point you to what they say on the BibleRef website on the Verse: "This verse has been used in debates about Jesus' divinity. Some suggest that Jesus is denying He is God. Others think that Jesus is trying to reveal to the man that He is God. But Jesus isn't directly commenting on the sentiment expressed in the statement. Rather, He's prompting the man to consider who deserves to be called "good." Jesus asks the man why he thinks Jesus is good. What characterizes someone as "good"? And if someone were completely good, what would that say about them? If only God is perfectly good, and a man is perfectly good, then the man would be God. It's possible that Jesus is trying to quickly lead the man to this conclusion, but unlikely. Jesus has taken great pains to hide His identity from all but the Twelve (Mark 8:29-30; 9:9) and the demons who feel impelled to declare it (Mark 3:11-12). More likely, the brevity of the comment and the quick change suggest that Jesus is giving the man something to think on later: "why do you call Me good? Are you calling Me God? If you are, are you prepared to listen to me?" It was common in that day for a layman to ask a religious leader, such as a rabbi, scribe, or Pharisee, what he must do to be good. They all followed the extra-biblical teachings the scribes had created over the years. Jesus, on the other hand, tells the man to go back to the Mosaic law as God gave it (Mark 10:19), and not worry about the traditions of man (Mark 7:1-13). The man implies that Jesus, as a good teacher, must know how to receive eternal life. Jesus points out that only God is good, and He gave the Mosaic law to teach the Jews how to be holy. Even more likely, Jesus is showing the man that if only God is good, the rich young man cannot be good. If he can't be good, how can he earn eternal life? Matthew's wording supports this interpretation: "He said to him, 'Why do you ask me about what is good? There is only one who is good'" (Matthew 19:17). No matter how "good" we are, we will never be sinless (Romans 3:23)." These ideas from BibleRef are some of the ideas out there, and they do a good job presenting many different ideas. Feel free to visit the site yourself as many of the verses mentioned here are links to those verses. Or, of course, look into sources you trust, This is just one I use that is free and easy. Also, remember to pray for guidance and to keep and open heart and mind. Praying on the things you question always helps sort them out, just stay humble and honest in your prayers. I hope this all helps. :)

@@colmortimer1066 thank you for your thorough response, appreciated. I just find it hard to not take these words at face value, seems pretty clear.

I get that, I think the main thing to do is to read everything in context, and use other parts of scripture to either confirm or challenge your thoughts. For example, in Mark 2 Jesus is healing people and forgiving sins, most people think only God can heal or forgive sins. So either Mark is contradicting himself or you are missing something. I think if, I were you, I would spend some time and read Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, through the lens of how you view Mark 10:18. You are free to wrestle and struggle with any contradictions. Just try to keep your mind open, ask for clarity, feel free to tell God what you are struggling with as you read, and ask Him to guide you to the right answers. I think he often tests our faith and when we honestly ask for help He will reveal the answers to us as we need them. You are free to read beyond the 4 gospels, of course, but I would start there, spend 30 minutes to and hour each day or 2, (what ever fits your schedule) reading and looking into them, and how each points to either the divinity of Christ or to him being more of a profit.

Consider the cultural significance of what Jesus said and then consider how those around Him reacted to what He said. It’s clear Jesus knew He carried natures of man and God, where He came from, and where He was going. Pitching software features missed the mark of responding to Erhman.

James Moffatt - New Testament John 1 1: 1 THE Logos existed in the very beginning, the Logos was with God, the Logos was divine. 18 Nobody has ever seen God, but God has been unfolded by the divine One, the only Son, who lies upon the Father's breast. Wycliffes translation Proverbs 8 22The Lord wielded me in the beginning of his ways (The Lord created me at the beginning of his ways); before that he made anything, (yea,) at the (very) beginning. 23From without beginning I was ordained; and from eld times, before that the earth was made. 24[The] Depths of waters were not yet (made); and I was conceived then. The wells of waters had not broken out yet (The water wells had not yet broken forth). Of course, Jesus is divine. He is the first born of creation, and God used him to create everything, apart from God himself.

❤ and Blessings to all. Thanks YHWH. Jesus Father who is Divine does not say his only Begotten Son is Divine. Jesus never said he was Divine. He said he was God son John the Baptist who Baptized Jesus did not say Jesus was Divine. Satan and his Angels knew he was not God. Divine Gid cannot be tempted. His disciples did not think he was a Angel man or a God Man. Repent and believe what YHWH says about his son . Jesus is God's representative, agent, He has his Father's nature and character. His Father made him Lord and Christ. Anointed him. A man. He is our Messiah. He is my Lord and Savior.
