Wiw i have a huge amount of chalcopyrite in my yard. We can't grow grass because it covers every square inch. Also, we have quartz veins. I am new to prospecting and my yard is what got me started. Tha ks for the information! I will be all of the quartz now to find that yellow stuff. Now I know to save the chalcopyrite to have it analyzed. It looks like I will have to dig.it all out and bring in dirt so I can grow grass

Actually iron pyrite can hold up 4 ounces per ton of gold in solid solution. Arsenopyrite is potentially much richer at up to 490 ounces of gold per ton.

Good descriptions explained.I never get tired at looking at these minerals like the ones that you are showing,even though I have a few pails of them along with Malachite and Azurite stained ones.So neat to see the places from them and the vids of the places that you guys have been to....

thank you for clarifying this is helpful. I had wondered why these two minerals were your main focus in some prospecting videos I have seen .

I have a large block of what I think is a pyrite conglomerate. There is some trace milky quartz spots but it appears primarily as a big brassy/shiny, mostly solid, single, heavy rock. It’s about the size of a basketball but weighs almost 30kg (very heavy for it’s size). I’d like to know if it’s got gold in it but don’t want to crush it if it’s worth something as it sits. I saw a similar looking and sized specimen online selling for $6,000 US. I’m not sure what to do with this thing. Oh, and this was found all by itself with no apparent source in the immediate area. Unattached and on the surface in south central Colorado. Should I break some off and send it in for analysis?

Thanks for explaining this so clearly. I know this is an older video but it helps. I just bought a large amount of quartz with Chalcopyrite at a garage sale. I am still trying to decide what is the best way to go with it. Either selling on ebay or processing it for the minerals.

When crushing and panning ore to check for gold, is there any tricks that help stabilising/concentrating the gold? I've heard that boiling ore in salty water, or heating the ore up would give better results, but I'm not too sure where that information came from.

Refining? Send to a refinery any day!
@911mining
@911mining 6 жыл бұрын
Your talking refiners? Not a clue we don't deal with any out that way. Best bet would be to contact a geologist and they may be able to give you some leads. Or put an add online if you don't have a lot that needs refining they won't take it unless it's a really really good grade. Minimum is usually a tonne with decent grade. It has to be worthwhile for them as well.

This is pretty helpful. I have some calcopyrite I found while rockhounding some perified wood, and some Galena ore from a different area. I was grinding them both up today and was startled to consider my galena ore may in fact also be pyrite. I am still doing research before trying to smelt them but its good to see they are found within the same ore rock

Pyrite is Fes2 where gold is Au. There might be gold hanging out in that area though.
@911mining
@911mining 3 жыл бұрын
Pyrite can run with gold so technically yes you can seperate the two...but smelting won't change the composition of pyrite to gold if that what your asking.

Joseph Walker Vinegar+ Hydrogen peroxide will dissolve fools gold aswell as Quartz/Minerals and limestone. Basically thats alot cheaper way to test it as it wont affect, and even clean, the gold. P.S gold will fall off as it will dissolve the holding rock so put in in a place where you can grab it from.

@@StalkeraBg okay thank you will be ordering some peroxide with a high percent
@StalkeraBg
@StalkeraBg 6 жыл бұрын
Joseph Walker Do it only outside, if it has pyrrite or sulfur it will boil out very fast and the fumes are very toxic . And it will destroy anything plastic as it gets extremely hot.peroxide will dissolve skin, so acid resistant gloves are a must.

Yes pyrite, chalcopyrite are fools good but they can contain small amounts if gold when that amount reaches a certain amount of grams per ton it become viable. There just different ways you need to proscess it because it's not free in the rock its trapped in with the pyrite or chalcopyrite
