Sharing a bit of a different perspective since all of them in the video believes in the afterlife. I understand and even appreciate the fact that they admit their concept of afterlife is directly influenced by religion. As our religious beliefs act as our comfort and source of hope specially during times of life and death, naturally people will cling to promises of heaven to make themselves feel better. But if we ignore feelings and just think about the implications surrounding this concept, the existence of an afterlife is a scary thought. 1. If you believe that heaven is truly eternal, you effectively render your life here on earth as meaningless. We humans live for about 70 years on average, compare that with trillions of years of theoretically living in heaven? Why make an effort here on Earth then? Should we just live our lives worshipping a god that would guarantee us a ticket to heaven, and just don't bother experiencing what this world has to offer? 2. If there's always happiness and peace of mind in heaven, I find it really impossible for me to be in that state. I mean, if I have to live in heaven, but at the same time be aware that there are millions of people below me suffering eternally and I would have to endure that thought forever? I don't think I want to experience that. Siguro ako yung lalapit sa Diyos at magsasabing "Lord tama na, kawawa naman sila" LOL 3. Again the concept of living in heaven forever, without anything else to do? Parang iniisip ko pa lang nakakaburyong na haha. I think part of the experience of what we call "living" is going through ups and downs, seeing both joy and pain, experiencing happiness and sadness, etc. That's what LIFE is all about. Kung puro positibo at good lang ang nasa heaven, at andun tayo eternally, the question is - would we honestly call that as "living"? Is that a life that somebody would really want?
@mntfiles2 жыл бұрын
adding to your first argument. the question is, are we doing good things because we actually care or are we doing good things so we can earn a ticket to heaven? if we do good things just so we can earn a ticket to heaven, isn't the intention kinda off? wouldn't it not be genuine kindness if the reasoning behind it is para maka plus points ka kay lord

Long statements but no proof or disproof is a waste.

1. If you believe that life is not eternal, how does that make your life here any more meaningful? We'll live about 70 years on average, and most people will be forgotten shortly after. At most, if you're really famous like an Egyptian Pharoah, your name will be remembered for a few thousand years. But beyond that, who cares? Also, does a life worshiping a god mean not experiencing a fulfilling and abundant life here on Earth? Do you believe that your life is more fun and exciting than everyone who has a theistic worldview, and that everyone that lives for a god is missing out on so much? 2. What's your definition of heaven and hell? What if hell is a place where people aren't there against their will but is a place that's locked from the inside because people in hell hate heaven and the person running it? 3. Is discovering new things boring? If God is eternal and infinitely creating new things and experiences and variety and adventures for His people, does that sound like a boring life? Consider this quote about the afterlife by CS Lewis: “All their life in this world and all their adventures had only been the cover and the title page: now at last they were beginning Chapter One of the Great Story which no one on earth has read: which goes on for ever: in which every chapter is better than the one before.”

@@BaniLogrono Hi sir. 1. Think about it sir - we people dictate the worth of things by its quantity. Typically the less amount something is, the more valuable it becomes. For example in a game (lets say an arcade machine) - if tokens are free then basically you have unlimited number of attempts and you mundanely try and try until you get the prize. But if tokens are costly and you only afford three of them, then each attempt becomes more meaningful - you try harder and make each attempt count. Basically this is what I'm saying if you think about the afterlife. If there is no afterlife, then the measly 70 years that I have on this world I basically have to make each minute count, because this is the only chance I have of experiencing life. And also I have to ask, how does worshipping a god fulfill one's life exactly? 2. I only base the definitions of hell from the countless theists who propose them sir, so you tell me. Does your definition satisfy the theology you believe in? If so then so be it. Like the people in the video, my views on hell are dependent on what I learn from other people, and my past understanding as well. But even if I use your definition, this won't change what I feel for the people inside hell, and what I think of infinite punishment - it has nothing to do with justice, and everything to do with vengeance. 3. Boredom is defined as the lack of interest in something. Again, if you're bored with new things that is up to you sir. But with what you've said, are you implying that god creates new things and experiences in heaven? Isn't heaven complete by that point? Are you saying that heaven is not perfect, and god needs to constantly create stuff just so its inhabitants would't feel bored? I'm not even talking about boredom in my comment but the concept of Life as our collective experiences of negatives and positives. I wonder if you enter heaven, will you suddenly be incapable of feeling negativity? If so, then is it really "you" that is "living" up there?

@@jempm55 Thanks for replying bro, I think this is a constructive convo 1. I see where you're coming from, but from a Christian theistic perspective, you wouldn't look at life in terms of scarcity but in terms of gratitude. God put you in this world for a purpose, are you going to fulfill it or let it go to waste? And besides, from a Christian theistic worldview, your life is highly valuable because God sent His Son to die for it. That's why you would make each second count. And if you really think about it, your analogy can work in favour of making the most of life now even if there is an afterlife, because the two things are not the same kind of life. When you're on a two-day business-trip in another country like Japan, you still want to make the most of it, even though you have thousands of other days living after you leave Japan. Life now is distinct from the life after, therefore still making it valuable from a scarcity perspective. As for how worshiping God fulfills one's life, it depends on the worldview once again. If humans really are designed by a Creator, then that means that we were designed for a specific task. Christians believe that humans were created to worship and love, and the correct way to do these two things is to worship God and love others. If not, then they will worship and love something else (themselves/career/idols/etc), which is actually what leads to an unfulfilled life because they wouldn't be doing what they were designed to do, like a guitar that is being used as a paddle, or a book being used as a sponge. So this again begs the question, what are Christians missing out on if they choose to live their life worshiping God? 2. You're right, it doesn't matter what we believe about how hell works, what matters is if it's real or not. And I can agree with you that people suffering eternally can be a harrowing thought. But how we feel about something doesn't dictate whether or not it exists. It exists because it does. So this is where the faith component comes in for those who believe in the Christian worldview but find it difficult understanding why Hell needs to exist. Maybe there is something that we're missing because of our limited human understanding and that we won't be able to fully comprehend with clarity until the revelations that are unveiled to those who make it to the next life. But I think, the best way to approach difficult is to go back to the core question of whether or not one's worldview is based on rational thinking, and reject or accept it based on that, and not emotions. 3. But infinite means never-ending. How can you run out of things to do in a place that's infinite with someone infinite? As for wanting to feel negatives to feel alive, maybe this is a case of being trapped in Plato's allegory of the cave. How can we know that that is how life should be if we haven't experienced the alternative?

from my perspective, there is no afterlife. but i believe in reincarnation, because i believe that there is something out there, ‘a creator’ who depicts everything from the very beginning, who knows us all, who built us for our own destined purpose wether it may be good or bad, someone who created life itself- every role and purpose made to be fulfilled by every other to figure and progress the capabilities of humanity. and to sustain factors of living such as emotional and physical encounters. this ‘creator’ is harnessing us for something we have yet to figure out or overcome within ourselves and living. which may lead us to decisions that explains where we’re coming from, what led us to it, and why we’re being put in it in the first place. this something does not build everything “good”, that’s why i don’t see them as ‘God’, they build something solely for a reason; a purpose. this ‘creator’ might just be cruel too, for they already have created a life of someone whose purpose is to be a criminal. without criminals, there are no policies. so that person is a criminal for they were made to take a fulfillment of that “role”, to put an image out there, a realization, that life is not full of something good, that life can be awful too. and so roles have been filled as they are, to relate to others and to give every piece of everything a structure and a meaning throughout the living years. that even if the person who did the crime die, the damage has been done, but laws have been implemented from that happening again because it still does happen. you may ask why? why is there a need for bad things to happen? if there is God, why does everything have to be so complicated? simply because you’re alive. you’re living. and the world does not revolve around you. in order to get to your purpose, ‘a creator’ has been guiding you throughout everything. humanity have such great capabilities that affect themselves and other people. we get influenced by the others easily, we meet people and face problems for us to grow and learn better, we never really know what’s ahead of us but ‘the creator’ knows everything, it never fails to give us bits of life and what we owe to ourselves and the people around who ‘the creator’ chose for us to be with. wether you are just a normal person, a famous person, a millionaire, a beggar, we all have such big impacts to one another and that serves purpose. it’s not all good, but it’s also not all bad- it’s life. we’re all just bits of pieces to make each and everyone of us fulfill our purpose. we’re living in a big world, but in reality it really just is a small world to keep us sane. and if we die, we live afterlife in reincarnation. but who knows what life for us is to be encountered and what purpose for us is to be fulfilled next. btw, I’m an atheist but I am definite there’s ‘something’ out there. i just don’t consider them as ‘God’ for some reason. but i believe this ‘something’ is between good and bad- what and where we come from. i don’t believe in God and the bible because for the course of my living years, i’ve realized it doesn’t make sense for it to be good to be true. it is a made up thing to brush off philosophy and to knock on humanities’s unrighteous actions and lack of self-discipline and to have at least one certain thing to believe into. i mean if it’s all true, why does God have to blame Adam and Eve for eating the apple when he's the one who constructed their intellectuality? why do he claim us to be his “child” but may end up putting us to “hell” if we die choosing the wrong path in life? all sound too narcissistic and cruel. God is a social construct and they call him "He" because men created him.
