I put it on my 2020 Pro too. I like the sound and looks of it. Should have come stock from factory on the Pro.

Nice, but the cold air intake that comes with every Tundra made is excellent, Toyota engineers did a great job designing it. If you want more sound, remove the carbon filter inside the the top of the factory filter housing. If you want to increase the air flow and add a little more sound drop in a dry AFE air filter. If you want to unleash the potential hp & tq gains, you need to uncork the exhaust side with the TRD exhaust or a BAMuffler.

The reason I added it to my 2019 PRO is it was engineered for the 5.7L and the TRD Duel exhaust.

Good video. I went with the cheap mod The dude did a video a while back. K and N drop in and the TRD flow accelerator. I like it and I can tell the 5.7 is breathing better.

I finally got around to putting the TRD cold air intake on my truck maybe 2 months ago as it sat there in a box for a while I was just very busy and overall I like it. The biggest difference is that it makes for a somewhat louder, deeper and more aggressive exhaust note. The drawback is that you get a bit more drone especially during towing or load particularly in the 1,600 to 2,000rpm band. IF you spend a lot of time under load you will get some harshness. You can even feel the noise give you a slight vibration in the gas pedal. It's not horrible or a huge difference but enough to notice and if you want a quiet vehicle you will have to live with this very slight but noticeable drone it probably would disqualify the intake. On the other hand the sound is definitely sweet. It sounds more like a muscle car, the way you'd want a V8 to sound. For the cheaper price for $320 vs full list it was worth it to me because I got just enough "loudness" and throatiness without having to spend all the money on the full exhaust which is much louder. It's very subtle, nobody has been able to tell a difference but my wife and kids noticed that I am enjoying accelerating the truck more lately. I haven't told them on purpose to see if they would say anything like "HONEY HAVE YOU GOTTEN AN EXHAUST FOR THE TRUCK" and it's not that much. Still there is a nice tonality to the exhaust and depending on how you put your foot on the gas you get different noise. It's complex and a lot of fun. I don't see an MPG difference and honestly don't notice much change in responsiveness either but I just love how it sounds across the rev range. The few times I do lay into it and get it over 4,000rpm it still sounds nice whereas with the stock box the truck stopped sounding well above that level and seemed kind of "wheezy". You can truly hear the motor now! So I would say this intake is good, especially if you find it on sale and not pay full price, for those that want their truck to be a bit louder, deeper sounding and more aggressive without getting all the noise and spending the money a full exhaust would cost. I may still yet go with the TRD exhaust but given that sometimes I have to tow or take longer trips I think I am happy with this level as to me the truck sounds the way I think it should have from the factory. Mean, aggressive, throaty but nowhere near loud, offensive or..... fart can/"penis truck" if you know what I mean. While noticeably louder, especially at startup and across the board, it's still quite tasteful and neighbor friendly at these levels.

I ordered the TRD CAI for my 2020PRO from Sparks. I wound up returning it and decided to order the S&B intake system. I'll be installing it next week, let you know what I think. For what it's worth, the return to Sparks was insanely easy. No restock.

303MoTo what makes you decided to go with the S&B over the TRD?
@303MoTo
@303MoTo 4 жыл бұрын
@@Outdoor-Adventures - Firstly I'll say the performance difference between the two is probably very small. The TRD intake just has a larger airbox, uses the same size factory air filter. The intake has multiple pieces held together with metal clamps. The S&B system has a larger air box as well, but also has a 1 piece larger intake tube into the manifold and uses a cone style filter. It was also $100 cheaper than the TRD system.

I have the s&b for my 2017. Did some iat testing and with the rubber cover off the s&b, the intake air temps drop to within 5 degrees or so of ambient pretty quickly. I found that with the plug installed, pulling air through the oem fender hole, it takes longer to get the iat down to the same level. It takes longer to heat soak, but once it is hot, it takes a considerably longer time to get to within 5 degrees of ambient.

You will also get more crud into your motor. Plenty of KZbin videos prove K&N style filer flow better because they catch less. Not to mention cleaning and re-oiling it. That said I have the trd intake on my tundra but use a disposable filter.

AEM makes good cold air intakes for vehicles, no oiling the filters to cause mass air flow sensor problems. To clean them just use hot water from the tap and you are good to go. I have them on my 06 Tundra, 19 Tundra, 08 Cooper S, and 14 Cruze.

I went with the K&N kit with the flow accelerator included. It was significantly cheaper than the TRD. As far as my experience with the sound, it may be a little throatier than the stock setup but I have the TRD dual exhaust, which is really throaty anyway, so it's hard to say definitively. As far as horsepower increase, as you said, the standard claim is 5-10 HP increase but again, it's not super noticeable. Maybe a slight increase in MPG. Is it worth spending $300 on...if it makes you happy, then I guess it is. If you're looking for a huge improvement in any form, you'll be disappointed.

I was thinking about the TRD exhaust because I wanted a little bit more aggressive exhaust note for my Tundra if only it was like just a tad bit louder under power and deeper it sounds like this is the ticket. As I posted on your "THERE ARE THOSE WHO SHOULD NOT GET THE TRD EXHAUST" video, if I tow frequently I will get drone. It sounds like the intake is a more subtle way to just get a bit more aggressive sound. This is a nice way to get a throatier, slightly deeper and fun exhaust without going the fart can route. As far as spending the money I have seen a few 2nd hand ones go for a lot less but I just got one online for $320 so there are deals out there.

Yes, it was much like the S&B system is today, except the S&B doesn't have a filter life indicator. The S&B kit is a much better kit for the money than the newer TRD kit. I believe the change was due to Toyota switching suppliers from aFe to another brand or perhaps in-house.
