Playing hard pieces does not equate to good musicianship, like what the kid said - he does not like being labelled as a prodigy because nowadays being a prodigy means playing fast and hard songs. The obvious difference between the asian kids youre talking about, and the kid in the video is that the kid in the video has actual musican essence, he composes his own pieces. And do you think those asian kids know how to create their own craft (compose music)? I doubt it, because all those "prodigious" asians only know how to play Chopin and Rachmaninoff, thats all. The most those asian kids end up in is in a master class to master a piece thats already been created, or play a concerto of an existing classical piece, whereas this kid in the video can actually become a brilliant and a world changing composer one day.

@joco2k The question is "Was it a 'problem'?" In Mozart's case you can deny it. Yes, Mozart's life would have been different without his dad making concert tours that early with his two children. But Wolferl really enjoyed it! Another example of prodegies are the three Polgar sisters playing chess. For the youngest and most successful Judit it was a joy playing chess! For the middle one Zsophia it wasn't the case (probably because her older and younger sisters were better than her) ... It all depends what the child thinks (later) of his/her childhood ... (Of course parents should care and love their children but I don't see too much pressure here. The way Ariel speaks here is very original.)
@MusikPiratCH4 жыл бұрын
@joco2k What's so important about "general consensus" or "political correctness"? It's only trying to please everybody. This is simply impossible! :P In Mozart's case you were dead wrong. And I'm pretty sure that Ariel will make "his way" (as in Sinatra's song)! :D
@MusikPiratCH4 жыл бұрын
@joco2k I see it differently. As long as the child likes what he/she is doing there is nothing wrong with it! And you can see in this report that Ariel likes playing the piano and to compose. The only thing that might have been too much was this late "gig" (I really don't know why it's called "gig")! There you clearly see that Ariel was too tired. He should have been stopped for his own good. Professional isn't an attitude here. But every thing else was pure fun for Ariel. That's all that counts! Therefore I simply disagree with most of you! :P

i know someone who plays just as well in my band. he got in when he was in 4th grade, even though the band was for high schoolers (we usually allow middle schoolers if they’re really good). he’s the main pianist, while im just the backup, even though he’s 6 years younger than me. he composes his own songs, too. by the way, he’s asian.

I've been trying to learn piano for a long time now...this brat blows me away!...NAW, he's no brat, he's a gifted savant, like my mother inlaw, Julliard trained pianist who played with precise measure and she sounded as stiff as her personality! My son plays like an angel, began playing age 3, was told he played with his soul...and that is a special gift not many are blessed with! YES...young children can achieve a lot more than a 66 yr old woman...like me!...I learned "Hot Cross Bunns", both hands! This boy is NOT being abused...this child would NOT be happy playing kickball and playing video games..he MUST play music as that is in his soul.

Wonderful! In every sense of the word. Mozart, Saint-Saens and many others were extremely gifted at an early stage in their lives. I love everything about this family and how it has provided such a healthful climate for this young man! Keep up the great work Ariel; however, don't burn yourself out. There is plenty of time if God gives it to you! It is not about being young; it is about being musically sound at any age - bottom line.

Poor parenting, who gets the money he makes!
@antoine15976 жыл бұрын
Why would a 10 year old child need the money? he wouldn't know what to do with it but buy what he likes. And they are very supportive parents they taught him piano and are very proud of him and they even bought a piano that cost thousands of dollars just for him before he was born. The parents are better off with the money, how old are you 10 as well? jeez that explains it all, so for the people who likes this kids comment aswell.

The kid is now 23 years old and he is not the next Mozart, i am not being rude or criticizing him but to be the next Mozart by this time he had to have composed something relevant and to my understanding it is not the case, he's just playing piano and the last i heard of him he finished 3rd place in a piano competition, which is great but far from being the next Mozart.
