The clothesline is one of my favorite features that separates this tent from its competitors. I loop my headlamp on the line and hang my wet socks and sweaty bandana up at night.

When you were demonstrating how tough it was to unzip the netting, there is a small tab on the bathtub of the tent that you can put the tip of your pole through, it'll keep the bathtub taut. That should make it easier to unzip

There is also a loop of cord that can be put around the pole about halfway up from the floor. This helps keep the screen a little tighter making it a little easier to work the zipper one-handed. Stacking our the corners of the bathtub also helps but that means carrying four additional stakes.

I've got over 50 nights in my Gossamer Gear The One tent and I'm still really happy with it. Suffers from condensation like any single wall tent but its super easy to set up (granted I have lots of practice), packs up really small and is plenty big for me and some room to spread out. Most of the time I keep the tent in a small cuben fiber bag in one of my side water bottle pockets. I have the older model and its important to note they made the newest models a little lighter but are ever so slightly shorter. Just something to consider for taller people.

I've had the X-mid 2P for several years and it corrects every downside that was mentioned in this video imho, I love it!!! To me this seems like a Duplex made from nylon. I own the duplex also but haven't used it much because of the condensation issues.

Glad to hear you like it. I'm on my 2nd year in the Two, after one season in the One (and an inexpensive but solid tent prior to that). I'm 5'7 and have found the Two to be palatial for one person. I love that I can have all my gear inside the tent instead of needing to use the roomy vestibules. I haven't had the Two in any rainstorms. However, the One performed beautifully in a thunderstorm on the AT a couple of years ago. Based on that experience, and the fact that I'm on year 3 with my Gossamer Gear Mariposa pack, I'm completely sold on the quality of Gossamer Gear products. I didn't even think about their hiking poles. Thanks for the tip!

Early 2020 I was looking for a tent. I did consider this one, but went w/ the X-Mid 2p for a few reasons: a real 2p tent, sil-poly that doesn't sag, and double wall for all the lakes I'm around. It does weight more than the GG.

I've spent quite a few nights in my Two and had zero condensation issues in a very humid NC summer. You just need to pitch it high. Best example, spent a night beside a river with 2 adults and a dog in the tent and zero condensation, just be careful with the pitch. Dan missed 2 things in his set up, should have put the trekking pole tip in the grommet, makes the zipper work much better. Also be didn't install the interior clothes line where he could hang his headlamp, etc.

Just got of the JMT a couple weeks ago and did 260miles/24 nights in this tent. I've also done a coupe weeks last year in the Smokies and the same in nothern PA. It did well at all. Great protection we had a few day of rain on the JMT and even hale. Condensation can be an issue at times but not overly problematic. We only had a few nights where condensation was a little more than I'd like. The tent had FAR more positives than negatives on my JMT through hike. The biggest down side and really only one that was bothersome for me is the fact that the nylon take on some water.. it does not leak at all.. but it does absorb some water. It makes the tent heavier and wet to pack away. Other than that its an excellent option if you want a big tent for gear and/or an extra person. My son and I shared the tent during our JMT thru and we had MORE than enough room for out sleeping pads and gear inside the tent. The vestibules are a dream come true for gear/shoes and packs!

I love my Gossamer Gear Mariposa and know they make good products. I have the Nemo Dragonfly 2p, which also adorbs water after a bit, and didn't want to carry a 3 pound tent on the JMT as someone that is 5'3".

I've been using my Dan Durston X-mid 2p. I've been loving it. Trekking pole tent that's double walled and low weight. Only complaint is the massive footprint, though that's not a true complaint because I love the massive amount of room it gives me.

Same. I've been using Durston's tent and 40L bag for over a year in the mountains in Strathcona and on the coast. The only change I made is that I swapped out the guylines from the 2mm to a 3mm.

You can modify anything. Z-Packs has stick on loops and clips. That’s for dyneema. So I’m not sure it will stick to nylon, especially wet. But I’m pretty sure I could find something that would stick. So you could put a guy line on the foot end.

Someone may have mentioned this already but my The Two has an easy way to determine the head end from the foot. The head end of The Two has "Take Less - Do More" printed on the flap extending from the bath tub floor. The foot end is blank. Took me only about three trips before I funded this out. 🙃

If you put the bottom of the trecking pole through the tab at the bottom of the tent then you can unzip it with one hand. I've been doing that with mine for 2 years now. Thank you for the video.

Having seen the problems my friend have setting up their trekking pole tent even in benign conditions I'll say no thanks. While this may be a good compromise I think ultralight is an obsessive compulsive path I'll be avoiding. A simple to erect robust condensation friendly lightweight tent in the 2lb range works just fine for me.

Bought The One. I’m 5’11” and it’s really too short for me. I am a belly/side sleeper and often put my arm under my pillow or over my head. It’s just a little too short for me. Decent quality, but just a tad to short and my foot box or head is always rubbing the inside and getting wet. I hate when the foot of my quilt gets wet...

Hey Dan, thanks for putting these reviews out there. Always look forward to watching them. I was lucky a few years ago and found an almost new Nemo Blaze 2p tent. It's a dual wall tent, two vestibules, with poles (tent, not trecking) included, and weighs only 2 lbs 5oz. I haven't found any tent, for the weight and functionality that compares to it, and I own many tents. I'll consider the Gossamer Gear version of this tent in dyneema (DCF), though it costs a bit more. If you have any other suggestions that compare with the Nemo Blaze 2p, I'd appreciate hearing more about them. Huge thanks

Though we paid twice as much, we love our Dyneema Zpack Triplex for the 2 of us. It weighs 22oz. Yes, I realize it is very expensive but it is so nice and light and so much room for the wife and I. Also dries very fast and does not hold the water (and weight) like a nylon tent.

I live in the Sierra and though I love the concept and the weight savings, I couldn’t even handle the hassle of the big Agnes tiger wall semi-freestanding. Too irritating and def not good in a storm if you can’t stake it out correctly. Am happy with a free standing even though more weight and save weight in other ways.

The Lanshan 2 is also a double walled tent so you have less condensation. In my opinion, it is a much better value than the Gossamer gear tent. Mine has held up over time so it is my recommendation.

There are several companies putting out similar tents and it’s hard to justify the large jump in price, unless it is the obviously more expensive Cubin Fiber materials. I personally prefer the double wall. The condensation factor is still there it just doesn’t leak onto your gear.

I've always used single walled trekking pole tents for backpacking; however, I'd prefer to have a double walled tent to cut down on condensation and to be able to sleep under the stars without turning into a mosquito buffet. Unfortunately, I have to keep my total pack weight to 28 lbs or less in order to be able to enjoy my trips. That means it's a single-walled for me. When a double-walled tent can give me the space and headroom at less than 2.3 lbs that the Two gives me, I'm all in. 🙂

I looked at the GG The One for myself and the price was a bit much, plus I wasn't too keen on the single wall condensation issue. So I got a DD X-Mid 1P. I am still working out "the perfect pitch" but I live in Ontario where over 90% of the province is solid rock and nowhere to stick a stake! It's pretty much the same problem even with semi-freestanding and you need to stake out the rainfly.

I suggest to save your money. I say that because if I couldn’t fit two 25” pads I wouldn’t look at it. My Duplex was well worth $125 more and it’s 4ozs lighter. Plus it’s dyneema. I wouldn’t carry a nylon single wall. That gets wet and it doesn’t dry well. Dyneema shakes off.

But only 10D nylon tarp and floor. How do you think this tent will hold up over time? I'm especially worried of the thin floor. I realize that's what keeps it lightweight, but sometimes you can get too focused on counting ounces. One of the most recent reviews on the Gossamer Gear page for this tent states: "After my first three-week camping trip, I had to patch the mosquito net in three different places. I was very disappointed with the poor quality of the material. My last tent was with me for more then 6 years, with no need of patching the mosquito net, ever. Sliding-knot system of strings-to-stakes: half of the knots came apart by the end of the three weeks, and on one corner, the string tore and I had to retie it. Not only do i have to learn how to make these sliding knots and re-knot them on every trip, but I doubt the whole string-system that holds the whole tent together will last." That's my main concern with this tent. Will it last?

I have a dozen tents and when I winter backpack in Utah my copper spur just wasn’t enough so I found on sale the Marmot Fortress and felt at least 5 degrees warmer in that thanks to the higher inner tent walls. Hope that helps! Having something that is freestanding is great in case the ground is frozen solid and a 2 person tent for 1 is nice. I also own the Big Agnes Battle Mountain which is also warmer but heavier than the Marmot and I don’t like the end entries. Side entries are my jam. My son uses that for Klondike scout camp and I take the Marmot.
