I love my D500 as a hobbyist shooter. Just got it back from Nikon having a full tune up done on it. I don’t plan on moving to mirrorless anytime soon. Happy New Year Trond. 🎉🎉🎉

I loved my D500 with 300mm f4 pf lens . If this is the replacement it should be superb for Nikon users 👌

Happy New Year. I wish you and your family all the best. I look forward to your next videos. By the way...after many years with Sony, I sold all my equipment and after saving up for a long time, I bought the Nikon Z9. The best camera I've ever had. Best wishes, Daniel

The battery definitely struggles more in the cold than the larger batteries. If I’m in the cold, I always keep one battery in my pocket to keep it warm. I think you will run into problems with this if you only have one battery. Perhaps if it runs dead you could warm it in your pocket and it may work again for a while. You will also find that the battery indicator is somewhat inaccurate and will fluctuate up and down. Other than that I’m absolutely loving my z50ii. I traded in my D500 towards it and I’m not disappointed at all :) Looking forward to hear your experiences with it.

Happy New Year and all the best for you and your family. The Z50II looks like a nice body packed with some great features. I am curious about what you will experience on your trip in those conditions, i have heard that the battery life is not particularly good for longer sessions. Greetings ✌

Hope you enjoy the z50ii Trond. I’ve had my D500 for a few years and recently purchased the z50ii to use alongside it. I really like it, especially the bird detection, focus peaking, focus stacking and video. Many people question the ‘omission’ of IBIS but the main thing that I believe limits the camera is the battery. I find it goes through them quite quickly so I’d imagine you’ll run out of power quite quickly in the extreme cold you’re expecting. Hope it goes well for you though 👍😀

Just got the z50 ii and got the settings done so can't wait to try it out. Was a "cheap" way to get into mirrorless and look forward to trying the autofocus.

Been looking closely at this camera to upgrade my current Z50. Made the mistake of holding one at the store a couple day ago - oh man. I think it's going to be a winner for me. Pretty much what I was hoping the Z6iii would be (don't do video so the Z6iii went off in a direction that did not suit my use case). It is so handy to have a smaller lighter camera that can use all my other lenses: A Z9 can be too much camera at times.

Nice! Congrats with the new camera.

Still love my D500. Holding out for something more like an APS-C version of a Z9 for wildlife photography.

Already exists, it's a Z8 in DX crop mode.

Unless Nikon finally makes some actually useful DX Z lenses I fear nothing will ever be able to replace the great DX DSLRs we had..

Hi Trond, i have the nikon z6ll, however, this camera doesn't have bird eye af, would be a good idea to change this camera for the nikon Z50 ll? What would you recommend me?

I'm interested in Z50 II but only with FTZ adapter, because I'm stuck with F-mount unfortunatelly. Is it possible that you could do a small test some of your old gear how this bird AF focus handles with old lenses? 😊
@trondwestby14 күн бұрын
Thanks for the suggestion! That might be possible in a another video :)

Hi, i never had as much fun with a camera as with the Z50ii (Although I own a Z9) As a Wildlife photographer I only use f-mount lenses (primes and zooms) on Nikon Z cameras, reaching great results. My favourite Combination for my Z50ii is Z50ii with FTZ ii and Nikkor 300mm pf: just works great. p.s. (Bird-) Auto Focus works great with f-mount glass

It seems like it has charging via USB-C. Can you confirm that? If so you could attach a power bank to the tripod to get awesome battery life! 😄😄
@grahamniven13 күн бұрын
Yes the Z50ii has in-body charging by USB-C and can be charged with a 27w (9v3a) power bank.

Yes it does :)

Please, test it as it means to be. Focus tracking on dark, low contrast environment, test it when temperature on -6° which might sap the battery. Abuse it to the failure if you like it. Tired with youtubers babying their gear not knowing what review is. D500 is tough as nail minus video capability. If this one can survive while recording video in environment similar as D500 can survive, then it will be no brainer to buy.

Happy New Year Trond, I would be interested to see how the Z50ii performs with small birds, it is a camera that I am contemplating getting.
