I believe your “dog collar” could possibly be an Egyptian revival arm cuff. A scarab would sit between the wings and chains hanging from the holes in a draped fashion.

Its such a shame when things are thrown away. That the history of where they came from and what they were used for gets lost. But not always. It is wonderful to come across information that shows what long forgotten items are, or could be. You found some really wonderful items on this lark. Things that stand out as bring very unusual and very special finds. The collar item was so fascinatingly unusual. I loved that very much as well as the horse pipe, which was amazing, in that the stem was so full. How do some things last so well like that. Unbelievable really, after being thrown in the bin, dumped, dropped, covered, then uncovered...many times no doubt. Then decades waiting for you to re find it again. Awe and i know rats aren't seen as the nicest creatures, but the rat pipe pieces are so appealing. Tiny little rats on a pipe stem, those are cute. A very enjoyable lark as always ladies. Thanks for taking us along. X

Love these collaborations between some of my fave larkers! The bird song is enchanting. The nettles raised anxiety in me. I had quite a few tragic moments growing up in the UK, encountering these stinging plants, as a child. I know they make soup etc. from nettles but I will never indulge! You do find the small treasures. Love the pipes and dolls heads. Dog collar? Amazing!... Who threw that away? So much social history - gets me every time. Fires the imagination. During the Egyptian revival of the 1920s that type of symbolism was utilized in some fabulous jewelry and many other areas of fashion and home goods, aiding in boosting their sales. Dog collar or not, a very fun find. ( : Fleur and Kate, I thoroughly enjoyed your collab with Andy and Josie of thee one and only "Mudpies". I really think this was the best vid of a collab I've seen, for the sheer reason that both teams were filming in the same location at the same time, yet you had two distinctly different videos. I think your collar could be an Eygptian Revival headpiece. I feel like a scarob beetle possibly sat in the centre of the wings. The large opening on the “dog collar” would have housed a scarab. Scarabs (beetle) adorn many Egyptian revival pieces. The wings would then emanate from the scarab’s body. It is likely not a dog collar.

Hi Ladies, Your metal collar reminds me a little bit of a 1930s light fitting collar we had in a previous house. It allowed the glass dome part to fit to the ceiling bit with an adjusted brass metal collar that fitted over the glass dome lip and a lip in the ceiling fitting. The whole lots was tightened by a small thumb screw. Drove us insane every time we changed bulbs. On second thoughts this was plain not decorated. Wendy Australia.
