i dont live in alton but instead just under it in st louis, me and my family go a lot cause they have a good golden corral lol. i love the dive into the history of the place! i also appreciate that it was fairly grounded lol, people usually like to make haunted things and places sound like the most unreal places ever, but theyre not! alton is very much just another town, but it happens to have some interesting spots in it. i dont believe in ghosts, but ive always been so curious if alton could prove them real to me.

I've never seen a ghost in my entire life and then when I moved to Alton Illinois I had my first ghost experience. The ghost literally jumped my body and trust me I was never a Believer until now. I know for 100% fact that this is one of the most haunted towns that I live in now. And it's so funny because after I had my ghost experience I ended up becoming a tarot card reader! I love Alton!❤

I'm back from alton! It was a great visit. I don't believe I experienced any noteworthy paranormal activity during my visit but it was a spooky and eeire experience being at these locations with dark history. Like at the alton prison and the building used in the Underground Railroad. The ghost hunt at the franklin lodge was a cool experience. Some people had real paranormal investigator equipment like spirit box and lights that activated when touched. The lights would engage several times throughout the night. And their spirit box communicated "evil in basement" so we went. The spirit box communicated "trapped" and eventually "get out" it was a major jolt to my paranormal adrenaline seeking side. As a child i always wanted to do that so it was great being on site for that and learning about what a ghost hunt entails. I would love to do that again. Theres other stuff that i can do in alton so i may visit again someday

The old Milton school house in Alton is also a very creepy, and paranormal place. My friends live in apartments built in there, as there are businesses as well. My band used to practice/ wrote an album in one of the on stage “offices” in the gym. Many people used to live in our practice space, and some of them straight up lost their shit. the gym at night and the locker rooms underneath the gym are seriously scenery out of a horror movie. We’ve had someone in the band see a whole ass ghost or spirit and he did communicate with him. Our bandmate is still unsettled about it too. There’s an eerie vibe to the album as well. My drummer found a very old denim Levi jacket and gave it to me and said, “if bad things start happening or you start to become a shitty friend, you should probably burn this..”. I ended up very strung out on opioids and cocaine and overdosed, and my drummer is actually who saved my life. I still got the jacket, and bad things have continued to happen to me ever since. But, the old Milton school house is a spooky gem.

I’ll have to look in that place next time I’m in town. Maybe get rid of the jacket!

I live in Alton and I am surprised to see you did not include the story about what actually makes Alton the most densely haunted small town. That Civil War prison you showed a chunk of was a huge limestone construction (locally quarried too) from the years of about 1880 to 1920 anyone who had a building permit in Alton could show up at the old prison site and take away all the limestone block they needed . . . for FREE. if you drive through the parts of town build during that period you can see the stones where used everywhere. my own home, built in 1902 has its foundation built of them, and yes, my home is haunted. The prison was a pretty grim place while in use, not that that would be unusual for a prison in that time but the storied that come out of it are hair raising. The belief it that all the negative energy from the suffering that happened in the prison was absorbed and carried from the prison site by the stone blocks to all the new buildings made with them. so drive through town, see tons of homes made with those stones and know, every one of those places is haunted. . .

Yes, I read a lot about this theory! And I did discuss it in part 2, the video about the Mcpike mansion. I was told the theory was disproven, for the mcpike using the prison limestone at least. Do you have a sense of who haunts your house? Think it’s a spirit associated with the prison?

As an Alton resident this video is so cool. Altons history is crazy. Worlds Tallest Man, Underground Railroad, Piasa Bird urban legend, Benjamin Godfrey, Lovejoy, confederate prison! A lot of people who live in Alton dont care or know about how historic it is, so its not like Salem Massachusetts with a lot of tourists

I'm from St. Louis, and I've never heard about Alton being haunted, despite having passed through on the Amtrak numerous times over the years! 🤯 I love the fact that it's not as touristy as Salem, because now I can drive there and explore without hassle!🤭 Thanks for the info, too!👻✨
