Hello my fellow S2000 owner :) I also have an AP1 but mine is one year older than yours ;) As I watched I was saying it's not the VTEC solenoid, it's not the fuel pump or even the air filter. I hope you don't go and buy any parts yet. You didn't pull the spark plugs? Check condition and gap. You can check if anything got stuck inside the throttle body just in case. Remove your MAP sensor and give it a few light taps (MAP whack) then put it back on. Is the car on stock ECU? If so then VTEC will definitely not engage anywhere close to 3 or 4000 RPM rather, 6000 (at sea level) or 6500 at altitude. Check your coil packs for any signs of oil on them as they can burn out because of that. Run a bottle of Liqui Moly or Motul fuel system cleaner in the tank. You might also have a bad ground connection. The engine rebuild is a big concern and many places mess it up. Timing might even be out a tooth or two. I love these cars very much and work on them often so I wish I was there to help you out with yours :) I'd have gotten that fuel pump in and out in no time saving you the pain ;)

@@CINETUNING I was literally going to write the same as Rolan did above. My advice is the same as his. Never fire the parts cannon at a problem until you have properly diagnosed it. Is the check engine light on? Regardless you should definitely invest in a decent obd2 scanner that can show you live data from the cars sensors. They really arent that expensive these days and can be easily found on amazon or other online retailers for less than $100 US. That will at least allow you to see your fuel trims (fuel trims tell you if your ECU is adding or subtracting fuel), map sensor readings and live timing data. Every car I've ever had that seemed like it ran fine at idle but just didn't want to rev past 3-4k rpm was timing related. Being that the tensioners in the F20/22C aren't exactly cheap or easy to come by I would assume that they probably either reused the original one or put a cheap Chinese knockoff tensioner in it. Does it have a slight rattle noise for a few seconds after a cold start? That would be a dead give away of a bad tensioner but even if it doesn't that doesn't mean the timing is good. Still, my money is on the timing being a tooth or so off. Also just a heads up its a pain to get the valve cover off with the engine still in the car but it is possible. I love that you are venturing out and learning to work on your own vehicles. I am an ASE certified mechanic and have been for over 20 years. I primarily work on Honda/Acuras and BMWs. I am always willing to help anyone starting out and wanting to learn. I have owned 5 s2000s and 3 AP2s that I left stock and 2 AP1s that I fully built one was turbocharged and the other centrifugal supercharged. Im going to sub and follow your progress and you can always hit me up if you're stuck and need some over the internet advice.

hey just finish watching the video i think you are listening to too many people to was goin on with the car!!! first you took the fuel pump off but you did not do any test? fuel pumps can work but not develop volume to supply the engine the required amount of fuel!!!! next you took the vvt solenoid apart but you did not check it when the engine was running, you said on the video that the engine was rebuild so that is a big concern it could be that is out time!!!! also on the first video that i watched i saw you playing with the pcm of the car why is like that? when a vehicle has that kind of problem it needs to diagnosed properly for not to spend money unnecessarily!!!!!

The car is like that because me and my garage are trying everything to check what the issue is. The issue is not in the engine itself but i’m all new to this so i’m still learning. I’ll check how to test the fuel pump. A lot of people already came with a lot of expensive computers and nobody found something. It’s probably something stupid. Thank you for your concern.
