The place, being China, tends to cater for the Chinese public (probably out numbering western ones by 23,456:1?), who unlike western tourists like to have safe walkways and escalators, cafes with toilets and free hot water, indifferent to piped muzak, etc. But China does have huge swathes of wilderness if you really want to lose yourself in them. Just don't complain that no one came for you for weeks.
