We visited Guilin 22 years ago on an organised tour that included seeing the cormorant fishing at night and a trip down the river Lee on a bamboo raft. It was a magical place. Although it still looks lovely, it is a lot more commercial and flooded with tourist like a lot of the popular places in China. So searching out the local life like you do Ian more authentic. 🙏 thanks

Been to Guilin/Yangshuo earlier last year and curiously the place was quiet...due to the pandemic devastating the tourist industry, even within China where it's been relatively well managed. The highly develop tourist district felt empty yet serene, without the usual huge crowd.

I love Yangshuo! Visited three times on various trips to China and it's on my list of places to return to. Although those fake plastic bamboo rafts are definitely for the tourists too - the first time I went to Yangshuo (about six years ago, during Chinese New Year), we booked a "bamboo boat trip" from Guilin to Yangshuo and EVERY raft going down the Li River (the whole river was packed with them, plus some ugly ferries) was a plastic one. The bamboo rafts are only on the smaller rivers :) So a tip for future tourists, don't book a fake bamboo boat trip. Just wander along one of the smaller rivers and you'll find someone renting out legit ones.
@kats_journey_east2 жыл бұрын
The lady on the banks told me the Li River doesn’t have real bamboo rafts , they are only in the tributaries , it’s definitely not something you would be able to guess while booking online 😔the plastic ones do the same job but they just don’t have the right ✨vibe✨ , just not cute , not romantic
@KatiePrescott2 жыл бұрын
@@kats_journey_east yeah exactly! I think we booked it online or at the hostel or something in advance, so was quite a disappointment to find them all plastic! And the river was PACKED with plastic rafts and ferries, really noisy :'( But later we saw the bamboo rafts on one of the smaller rivers around Yangshuo, and in much more peaceful surroundings - would definitely recommend these instead!

Enjoy your videos very much. A small correction-The "rain coat" the fisherman wears is not made of pine needles. It is made of the fiber from the sheathes of the palm tree leaves. In Chinese, it is called 棕衣. People from my hometown in Sichuan call it 蓑衣。Likely the only raincoat particularly for the farmers in the old days before plastic was brought into China.

This is so wonderful, thank you 阳离子. I'm Chinese and have been studying in Italy since 3 years ago and I've seen so many students around me have had deep misconceptions about China. I would have always shown your videos to them and this really saved lots of time to explain. Your preferences for the Chinese countryside life are very inspiring to me, especially for my future plans for making videos in Italy. I'm a Christian and am very interested in churches. Instead of shooting the big churches in Italy where everyone knows, I'd rather go out into the Italian countryside, as you've focused on, shoot the beautiful wet frescoes in the small churches. I hope my project is going to start soon. I am so glad to see that 小王总 seems to have recovered mentally from the grief of losing his mother. I wish you two the best❤️
