IS THIS EVEN POSSIBLE? - MY 1996 WORLD CUP WINNING RETRO BIKE BUILD - EP 1 - ROB WARNER

I've never been a huge fan of keeping old bikes, but I knew if I was ever going to do a retro bike build, it had to be a good one.
Some say it was the most iconic moment in the history of mountain biking, a pivotal moment for the sport. Of course, i'm talking about my iconic World Cup victory in Kaprun, 1996.
Watch as I delve into my dad's museum to find my world cup winning Giant ATX990 frame and start to plan how i'm going to take on the ultimate retro bike build.
Can I even find all the parts to complete this build? I still don't know the answer to that! Make sure to subscribe to find out as we'll keep them coming until she's done.
Enjoy,
Rob

Rob I rode at one of your 4x events as a 13yr old at hornton hill in 2004-2005. My dad took me there and it was one of the happiest memories I have with my dad. I’m 30 now. Thank you for throwing that event. The memories of me and my dad will never leave me. Thank you.

I love this unique angle on the subject: a reluctant retro build by a man who really can't be bothered with retro bikes! Will have to try that approach on my channel, see how it goes down with the retromtb crew...

I have a 1996 Santa Cruz Heckler, still ride it regularly in the same places as some modern longer-travel bikes, just at a slightly slower pace. Durability is like nothing else of the era though, and total bike weight is around 14kg, coil springs front and rear. 66 degree head angle even :D I like to think there was at least one good bike from that era, but I could be wrong.

I had one of these - with the Goldtec long travel (vertical head angle) adjustment plates, it was an absolute death trap due to the head angle and high BB - it ended at Warwick train station when I jumped the steps into the underpass - the top shock mount ripped itself off. It was shit even then.
