Hi Hemingway : I have just bought a preowned Winston in a dark peaty brown “Dartmoor” finish with very light use & nib for about 40% discount on new price. It has the cartridge converter option so is a little lighter at 48g. Should be with me next week and am very much looking forward to adding it to my collection. With Onoto I think Conway Stewart are two of the nicest British brands and very old school. I very much enjoy your videos so thank you for all you do for lovers of pens, inks and journaling.

That is a beautiful pen. Today I received a CS Duro Ukraine fountain pen, done up in stripes of acrylic in the flag colors. The pen is about the size of a Parker Centennial Duofold (but lighter at 20 g), the nib is smooth as silk, right out of the box. What impresses me is that CS have dedicated all profits from this pen for aid to Ukraine.

Thank you for the fine review. My elder son is a forensic accountant for a transnational corporation, who has taken an interest in fountain pens. When I showed him a Visconti Midnight Voyager I was gifted a few years ago, he said, "Now that's an executive pen!" I think one could say the same for this Conway Stewart Winston. Handsome on the desk for signatures. Very handsome. I have said exactly what you say about the captive converter system: the worst of both worlds. I encountered it in a Stipula Adagio. It broke within two fillings. The company fixed it, in about the time it takes for human gestation. A long time to wait. Piston or cartridge would have suited that pretty little pen better. I might say that I wouldn't find the weight off-putting. I have an ensso Italia Copper with a titanium nib which is a joy for correspondence or journaling. As is my Hardy Penwrights 10T Traveller with a steel Jowo nib. Lighter, but a great writer as well. What a great hobby!

Outstanding review, as always, and 100% honest and thoughtful assessment of things to weigh in your pen purchase decisions. Value is such a tough call with luxury items like fountain pens, but I received my Honey Noir today, and am glad to do my part to prop up the pound vs. the euro. Probably just me, but the looks and history of CS -- and my feelings about the Brexit message to Brussels -- stir a strong kindred spirit in me. Something about the Anglo Saxon refusal to be cowed, whilst always respecting tradition, makes me proud. Thanks for all you do.

This colour is really stunning and I don't usually gravitate towards red. Because of the history behind the Conway Stewart brand, I would love to add one - in time - to my pen fleet. With this in mind, your videos with some compare and contrast are some of my favs!!

I’m on Instagram with a different name. I’m the one who responded to your comment there a few days ago about this pen. I think that this resin, as well as the Dartmoor resin which I also have, is extremely beautiful. So deep and rich. For me, the weight is very pleasant but I don’t write for extended periods of time. In my cherry red I have the italic broad nib which is a flattering experience for my handwriting. In the Dartmoor I have a regular medium nib which I also like. Funny, that one sort of squeaks as it crosses the paper. It’s not at all unpleasant. I enjoy the feedback feeling and sound. I don’t have experience with as many different pens as you have but this one is my absolute favorite right now. Thanks for your thoughts.

I have a mottled green Conway Stewart "Earl" that I got at the DC Pen Show in 2005 for $350. It is a handsome pen with an unusual barrel, but I haven't been satisfied with the way it writes, so I seldom use it. It is on the verge of being scratchy, even though the tines seem to be properly aligned. There doesn't seem to be much tipping on the nib, so I haven't tried to use micro mesh or any other type of abrasive to fix it.

This is a beatiful piece, but, the perfect pen its very hard take a choice, the world of the fountain pen its very big, the cap, barrel, nib, fill system its a set in perfect harmony, more brands and options for a take. I love your egyptian ink bottle. Salutes for all.

I recently acquired this pen in the Dartmoor resin material. It's beautiful but heavy! I could've been 10g lighter and still feel as high-end. The bulk of the weight is mainly in the barrel. I feel a bit of cramping while using it. I have a Waterman Exception that weighs as much but the cap is a 40% of the weight so the barrel is quite balanced. The captive converter is unambiguously a bad choice and does nothing to add value or serviceability. I have 3 other Conway Stewarts that I like better for day-to-day writing. This one, like you said, is more of a desk pen.

Awesome review HJ. I would like to know the length of the warranty and what it includes. Also, about the bespoke options, what is the cost of asking for various other available options? Another point I would like to make is that the good folks at CS should let you keep this pen long-term and do a follow up, say in 3 months, 6 months etc. That would be nice. Especially with concerns expressed over the filling mechanisms.

Another beautiful pen! I don’t think I would like that filling mechanism. I have my eye on a Homo Sapiens. I think they have released some new colors and the cap is magnetic as opposed to the “short twist” on the previous ones.

For my opinion the best Great Britain pens are no ONOTO but Conwey stewart because, apart fromrighting properties, Conwesy stewart pens have a extra anglosaxon design! Their british elegance!

I can excuse many of the shortcuts in more affordable pens, but beyond a certain price, I find it unacceptable that they didn't bother to make a punch to print the brand on the nib. Pixelated laser-etching should not ever be present on such beautiful pens. It spoils the classic look. I don't want lasers, UFOs, transistors, etc. on a 1920s design. This clashes with an otherwise successful design. But otherwise, although a bit too heavy for my taste, the rest of the execution is in line with what one would expect in this exceptional product range. A pity. I preferred its shape to the Montblanc if not for the laser engraved Jowo nib.
