@@raymondhewittthe majority of dumping is actually being caused by shop owners and outsiders dumping when refused at polmadie. They know it will be picked up on Alison st no questions asked so now people come from all over to dump rather than pay the charges. There is obviously an issue with residents as well but for me if I came to a country not knowing the language and every day you see people putting all rubbish outside on main road and cleansing pick up usually twice a day sometimes more from st you would just presume that is how your rubbish is collected. There needs to be more done to make sure private landlords have punishments if their tenants don't know the rules and if they continually offend then landlords should be penalised to ensure they are taking responsibility for their flat and tenants.

My old area, grew up there, and the Queens Park Cafe pub, played for their football team in the mid 70's. Nice memories seeing all the streets, but not the same place overall. If anyone wishes to study what multiculturalism and uncontrolled immigration does to a city then this is where to come. Everyone you met was friendly though and you put a good light on matters. Your walk spanned some of Govanhill and Crosshill, but did bring back so many memories. Govanhill library, books, learning, studying, oh the simplest of days. On your headline 'Roughest' ??? Not during the day but certainly at night but I doubt as dangerous as back in the 60s,70s,80s with all the serious gangs and sectarian split of the day. Same issues probably, just different products controlled by different people, now 50 years apart. Thanks for the vid. Good luck with them.

@@raymondhewitt Was/is just a really bad area for fly tipping and rubbish and vermin. It's a really unhealthy place to live which is ironic because it was once an affluent area of Glasgow. There are people I met while I worked there who moved there when it was a nice place and they are trapped. It is the only area of Glasgow that has a dedicated bulk uplift squad whose job is to drive around only govanhill (which isnt a massive area compared to places like easterhouse and drumchapel). It also has a dedicated pest control service because it's infested with bed bugs and rats. These services aren't meant to be commited to only a small area like govanhill. Walking around there yourself you wouldnt think the council spend a lot of money on it but they do. So it is an 'exceptional' area, basically an enclave within a city that has done a lot on recent years to recreate its public image and move past its slum housing past. Back courts infested with rats and human waste all over the place it was disgusting. I have some videos and pictures of back court clearences we had to do where we had to wear something similar to hazmat suits, dont know how to send them through this but i could email them. I worked there for 9 years, Ive worked in the council for 15 years, north, east, west and south of the city. I grew up and live in a rough area in the east end myself and govanhill is the worst area ive seen. And im talking in terms of living conditions, I cant attest to the violence that takes place there as i was only there in the daytime and would not go into govanhill at night. I know the pest control squad who work there and they said they went into a house that had a bonfire built in the living room, the place is just a recipe for disaster. People are quick to blame the roma community because its the biggest roma communuty in Scotland but I befriended a lot of the roma fokk in my time there and they were really nuce. A lot of the iissues are the fault the landlords who take advantage of these people. Its them that dump a lot of the insect infested, pish stained furniture cos ive seen it happen. But the residents in that area arent blameless, thats not racism or xenophobia its called having eyes n your head.
@nedkelly32515 ай бұрын
Just a really bad area for fly tipping and rubbish. It's the only area of Glasgow that has its own dedicated bulk uplift and its own dedicated pest control. These are city wide services, govanhill is the exception. Compare govanhill size wise to other schemes like drumchapel or easterhouse. People think theres no money spent in govanhill cos it looks like the gaza strip but it has more money spent on it than anywhere else. You've walked the streets which are bad enough but take a walk into the back courts. Infested with rats and human waste, absolutely disgusting. I worked there for 9 years, been in the council for almsost 20. Worked north, east, south and west of the city. I grew up and live in a rough, shite hole in the east end and govanhill is the worst ive seen. I can email photos if you want of us doing back courts n weve had to wear special suits so we dont take anything back to our homes. And just to be clear Im talking about living standards. Im not talking about the violence. The well documented rapes and roberries that take place there. I only worked there in daylight hours and would not go into govanhill at night time. So i dont have any mad stories in that regard but I have 9 years of experience of th4 placr and its a shite hole. A lot of this is blamed on the Roma community because its the largest roma communuty in Scotland, but a lot of it has to do with the landlords in that area who take advantage of these people.
