Thank you Mark for letting Rob check out your radio so we could see what a 90s radio looked and sounded like. Get on the air and enjoy your radio.

Most tuners that have a peak/average display function require 12v external power for the meter to work properly, at least in the peak position.

I just keep watching and I see the double coaxial knobs up right for high and low cut control look mispositioned. Have a look there. Inner knob (high cut) fully clockwise, outer knob (lowcut) fully counter clokwise. This should be the default setting before any filtering. D.

I have just got one of these radios its a TS-570d , but unlike yours it seems to only be able to transmit up to 30mhz instead of 50mhz like yours there. Just getting to grips with it , so far I love it .thanks for the video🙂

From the manual of the 969: The meter on/off button must be turned on for the meter to function... Also, later on they state you must have power to use the peak circuitry. (I found this out the hard way with an MFJ 815D meter)

Interesting...I didn't know these required power to function correctly. Just for fun, I just tried it powered to see what would happen but the needles still don't move. I thought they were missing but they are jammed way down low and probably stuck. I could probably take the meter apart and free them up

Even though the Kenwood is in ruff cosmetic state… it’s still better than most modern radios

I have a 945E and it works great. There's nothing wrong with 90's gear either and Ham Radio is about the fun of the hobby. You don't need to be an expert to play Ham Radio. I've seen "professionals"...and I'll use that term loosely, who can't even make VHF analog repeaters work effectively in public safety.

I think there is something going on with that jumper in back. The 570 has one optional filter slot available. You have to choose a CW or SSB filter, Not both. The filter width on SSb should adjust to 2400hz. And yes the 570 is a little narrow for the eSSB guys. The 2400hz is also the widest transmit BW. some SSB guys are at 3000hz or wider. I have the 570d. Mine does not have 6 meters.

Ground is hardwired to the remote terminal. Odd. Maybe that is why you have to activate fsk to hear wide-band? Just a thought.

I know it's an older video but the audio issue on ssb looks like it might be because you have the high and low cut dsp in the center which I believe is cutting out alot of the recieve passband. Turn the high cut full cw and the low cut full ccw

Hi Rob, another thought other than others you already had on the 570. Perhaps there’s an optional filter installed inside which is wrong? I’d take a peek inside as well as do a master reset as you did and have a look at the manual. Very wired, it is definitely not normal behavior. Let us know! Im so curious now… 73, Diego

Hey Rob, in your mind do you have an idea at what point you might consider yourself an expert? A certain amount of years or a certain amount of equipment testing where you could say to yourself yes at this point I can say I'm an expert?
@SevenFortyOne
@SevenFortyOne 10 ай бұрын
I consider myself a "jack of all trades"...I know a little bit about a lot of stuff but don't have a mastery of anything really. Except maybe circuit board design and manufacturing...I've been dealing with that every day for over 30 years...
